Winter Wedding Invitations

Updated on May 9, 2014

Perfect start for your special day

When we think about weddings, winter is not the first theme coming to one's mind. Well, think again! The coldest part of the year can bring very special kind of magic with snow flakes, icicles and - why not - tiny snow men!

Just like marriage is a commitment which should not be taken too easily, a wedding is an event which demands some preparation. Actually, a lot of it. If you decided for a thematic event, this is even more true. Let's start with invitations.

You will not send them only to invite guests. You want to give them as much information about one of the most important days in your life. Everybody knows how important is a first impression, so you'll choose a winter theme for your invitation cards.

With proper planning you will not make good, but rather great first impression!

Top three reasons to marry in winter

1. It's off season (for weddings), so everything will be cheaper.

2. Your guests will be less likely on holiday, so they would easier squeeze your reception in their schedules.

3. You can combine your personal holiday with Christmas or Valentines. And because days are shorter, you can start partying earlier as well!

We start building a theme with colors. For winter this means traditional white in different shades. Some are more complimentary to winter than others. Think about silk or stark white, but the final decision should be made after all the facts from the color of bride's skin to the chosen light in the wedding hall.

Next choice after white is blue, the color of purity. Go for soft, light tones and shades which will serve as great base to form the contrast with silver and gold which are perfect choice for winter themed weddings.

Next step are details as hills with snow caps, spruces, snow drops or even Christmas decorations. If you plan to marry in December, some gifts would certainly be more than appropriate.

Not necessary cold!

You can marry in winter and still enjoy warm weather.

Many tropic islands as traditional wedding destinations are very good choice for November or December because you can get a lot of sun ant the season of hurricanes is already over.

Few tips for winter weddings

1. Go simple

If you are thinking about fancy food, don't forget it is cold outside and warmth would be very appreciated. You can plan hot buffet with all sorts of treats but even a hot tea (or chocolate) and cookies can do a lot of good.

2. Plan

We need more time for everything in winter. Dressing up, driving, finding a parking lot, everything adds, so make your schedule loose enough to get into trouble as soon as somebody makes a wrong turn in the streets.

3. Backup

While a romantic wedding ceremony with astonishing snow-clad mountains in the background is spectacular idea, we should never forget how fast can a weather change destroy everything. So have a back-up plan if the sky suddenly darkens...
