What every Practicing Christian needs to know about the Bible, Homosexuality, and this Great Nation
Introduction to this article for Christians about the Bible, Homosexuality, and the Future of this Great Nation
Unlike the early Christians, we may not lose our lives, but we may lose our liberties to worship as we choose if we do not vote our consciences, and vote for representatives in our country that support Traditional Marriage.
Traditional Marriage, ordained of God, is threatened by Marriage Equality. This shows what God has said Biblically about Homosexuality, and at the same time, enjoins us to love others, no matter what their sexual orientation.
It is also an inspiring call for those of good conscience to vote according to their consciences, and support leaders who support a biblical view of Marriage.
A Christian, Biblical view of Marriage, and God's view of this Great Nation
There is hope for this Great Nation in the prayers and votes of every Christian
We live in a day and age where evil is being called good and good evil. These days were prophecied of in the Bible. They are the Last Days, the days before the second coming of the Savior, when all the world is in turmoil (See Revelations).
In this era of Marriage Equality there is something every practicing Christian should know. One of the attacks on Christianity is that practicing the acts that Gay and Lesbian people practice is okay. In reality, it is against God's laws, according to the Bible, in both Old Testaments and New Testaments.
Before I discuss these things it is important to keep one thing in mind. The Savior said to love God and to love others (Mark 12:30-31). It is important to love everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, for they are Sons and Daughters of God, too. Truly have Christlike love for them.
I hope if any one who reads this sees someone being belittled because they are gay or lesbian, that you would stand up for them, for such cruelty is not what the Savior of the World would have. He enjoins us to love others, and treat them with respect, and safeguard basic human rights.
That being said it is still possible to love someone and know that what they are doing is wrong. We are told in the Bible in Leviticus 18:22 “Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination,” or the NIV version “Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable,” or any other similar Biblical version.
That is pretty clear what the Lord is saying to us there. The Lord does not want men to have sex with men. The same goes for women in the passage quoted below.
Now some people will say, well that is the Old Testament, Jesus did away with that when he came to die for us. There is New Testament reference to that being against God's Law. Paul, in his epistle to the Romans, teaches that these behaviors are wrong:
“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet” (Romans 1:26-27).
Some of the verses preceding the ones quoted are interesting to study, as a side note. It puts it in context and makes sure that Paul is speaking against these types of relations.
If you are a practicing Christian, it is impossible for you to be in harmony with the Bible and think that homosexual relations are okay by God. He has clearly stated in the Bible that they are not.
Marriage between a man and a woman has been ordained of God since Adam and Eve. Each man and woman who marry perpetuate the way that God has ordained marriage since the beginning of the earth. These things were decreed from before the foundations of the world, and will stretch into the eternities when all of us have passed on from this life. Sacred relations between a man and a wife help life to grow here on this earth, so that spirit children of God may come down, gain a body, and learn of his ways (See the Family: A Proclamation to the World)
It is difficult to take a stand against homosexuality, but it is possible to do, and still have love for them. I know people who are gay and lesbian who are people of remarkable character, people I care about and keep in touch with. They are people just like you and me, and we should have love for them.
That doesn't mean you vote to allow Gay Marriage. In these times it is important that we choose our leaders wisely, leaders who value traditional marriage. If they are right with God, they will be able to have the inspiration of Almighty God as they lead this country. God will be able to use them to answer the righteous prayers of millions of good christians praying for the good of the country. It's sometimes hard to take a stand against Gay Marriage, but if you do, you will be more at peace with yourself, and with God.
Think of the early Christians who were persecuted, jailed, and even died for being Christians. For someone to obey God when it is not popular is to make yourselves like those Christians of earlier eras who watch over us now, and hope that we will make the choice to follow the Savior at any cost. If they were here, I believe they would say it is worth it, at any cost.
There is hope for this Nation. Centuries ago, a leader of a group of people on this land named Moroni knelt and prayed; “and he bowed himself to the earth, and he prayed mightily unto his God for the blessings of liberty to rest upon his brethren, so long as there should a band of Christians remain to possess the land.” Later on the prayer was answered this way. “Surely God shall not suffer that we, who are despised because we take upon us the name of Christ, shall be trodden down and destroyed, until we bring it upon us by our own transgressions” (Alma 46:13,18, Book of Mormon https://www.lds.org/scriptures/bofm/alma/46.13?lan... )
This mighty man of God, centuries ago, on this land, prayed for it to be a land of liberty, so long as a band of Christians remain to possess the land. Now there are millions of practicing Christians of many faiths, who pray for the future of this great land.
We may not lose our lives, but we may lose our liberties to worship as we choose if we do not vote our consciences, and vote for representatives in our country that support Traditional Marriage.
And if we do that, we can rest assured that God will always watch over this Country, this land of Liberty, and yes, a land of Liberty to all.
I love God, I love my fellow people, and I love this country.
I hope you take courage, as did the Christians of old, and stand up for God's laws, in the kindest and most merciful way.
