The Green Man

When I was about 5 or 6 years old, I used to stay overnight at my grandmother’s house. She slept downstairs all the time, so I brought over my favorite blanket and slept in the main bedroom. The bedroom has a bureau with a big mirror that shows the entire length of the bed. There was only one light in the room that worked (the ceiling light), and sometimes without it I would feel like someone was watching me from the darkness, so I always left it on. After a while, I started getting that “watched” feeling even in day light, at all times of the day. I woke up early one morning and went downstairs to the kitchen to make some toast. With my toast in hand, I went to watch TV, but it wouldn't turn on. I was trying to figure out why, but there was no real reason why it shouldn't have turned on. Then, I caught some movement in the TV and looked to see what it was. It looked to me like there was someone looking back at me, but then the television popped on and the picture blocked the reflection, however, I could not shake that feeling that I was being watched. The rest of the day went by just like any other. Later that night, I had to stay with my grandmother again (I really didn't want to, because of the uneasy feeling it gave me, but my parents couldn't pick me up that night). I left the light on like usual, but it just didn't help anymore. I stayed awake for the majority of the night, and at some point, I felt something push down on the bottom of the bed. It felt like something was crawling at me, however, I couldn't move or make a sound. Then, I felt a hand come up on my leg and tug at me. I’m not quite sure why, but I looked over at the mirror where I saw the reflection of a large, bone-thin man who’s entire body was green. I could only see it in the mirror, but felt every move it made. What happened after that, however, was even weirder than being attacked by a green monster... Suddenly, fire came up from the floor, but the fire was a glowing black! It caught the attention of the green man (even after all that I saw, I still couldn't move or call out). Then, the black fire swirled the green man and before I knew it, both of them were gone. I jumped up in the bed and gasped for air. I couldn't process what had just happened, other than thinking that it was all a dream, but I checked my leg where it had grabbed me to see cuts where its nails were and a hand print.

The Red Face

This one is less interesting I suppose, but it was much more frightening at the time. When my first house was being redone, I had to sleep in a room with my mother and father, as well as my two siblings. It was a big room, so there was plenty of space at the time. At the other end of the hall, was the bathroom, so I had to walk past one of the other bedrooms that was being worked on in order to get to it. One night, I woke up and had to go to the bathroom. I saw that my dad was gone and the light was on in the bathroom, so I just went to wait outside the room for him. While I waited, the door to the other room started to creek open. I looked into the room through the cracked door and found myself looking directly into the eyes of a man with a red face. I used to describe it as just that, "a man with a red face", then later I saw Star Wars and started comparing it to “Darth Maul”. When I looked into its eyes, I felt fear...pure fear. It was like everything horrible that ever happened was happening to me all at once! I let out a yell and my dad came out of the bathroom and asked what was wrong. I told him I saw someone in there and he went in to look around. He checked everywhere, but there was nothing. The window was down and locked, and there was no way that anyone could have escaped so fast if there was an intruder. My dad, however, didn't believe me when I said it wasn't human. I started to sleep downstairs for a while, even after my bedroom was finished, and any time I did go upstairs, I felt uneasy for a long time.

The next and last time I saw this thing was while on vacation. I was 15 then and we were staying at my mom’s friend’s house in Michigan. They have a pretty large back yard with a little play area for their kids. I had just gotten a new laptop before we went to Michigan and I got so into a game I had downloaded that I stayed up until a little after 3:00am. I finally got tired and logged off for bed. I had gone to get a glass of water before bed, and while standing at the sink, I looked out the window. Just in front of the play area, he was there. I turned on the light and squinted to see him better. He was breathing heavily and staring back at me. Aside from his red face, he had a body covered with black hair, his feet were huge hooves, and he had huge hands with claws. I know this sounds like a common description of the devil, and I guess to some people it probably sounds like it was the devil, but I don't think it was or I wouldn't be alive to type this.

The Girl in the Closet

After the work was finished on my house, I had started sleeping in my own bedroom again. I don’t know why, but since the work had been done, I had the exact same dream almost every night. I would dream that I was asleep in my room, and I was woken up by the sound of crying. I would trace the sound to my closet where I would find a little girl with dark hair who looked sickly and pale, and she had deep blue eyes. I remember the eyes the best, because of the look of pure fear she had in them. When I would find the girl, she would look directly up at me with so much fear and sadness that you can’t help but feel sympathetic. Then, she would say, “He will come for you! You have to run!”. I would try to calm her down and try to find out what she was talking about, but then she would just gasp and look past me. I would always turn around and look up before I heard a gun shot. Then, all would go black...I could still hear things like crying and screaming, or sometimes some laughter probably from whoever was shooting. At the end of the dream, I would hear one last thing, which was the voice of the little girl saying, “I’m so sorry. I wish I could have helped you,” followed by sobbing. Then, I would wake up, but a lot of times whenever I had those dreams, I would wake up at the sobbing part to see the same little girl standing by the window looking at me, and then with a sigh of relief, she would just disappear. This happened several times in a week until we finally left that house, however, the few times I saw her after that were far and in between in random places.

Invisible Footsteps

One day, during the summer before my sophomore year in 2010, I was taking a nap in my parent’s room, because they have such a comfortable one. While I was trying to get to sleep, I heard what sounded like arguing followed by a woman’s voice saying my name. It was like she was just saying it right into my ear. I opened my eyes and looked around, but no one else was home, except my mom and I. I went to ask If she was calling me, and she said she wasn't, so I shrugged it off and went back to the bed. However, as soon as my head hit the pillow, I heard a man’s voice say my name, followed by the same voice shouting my name and telling me to get out. I got up and started down the hall, but stopped at the top of the stairs, where I heard loud heavy footsteps coming down the hall after me. I then darted down the stairs...I never heard the voices before or after that.

One Eyed Old Lady

One night, after having another one of those dreams about the little girl, I woke up again to see her standing there. This time, however, after she disappeared and I turned on my side to go back to sleep, I felt a bony hand on my arm. When I looked to see who was touching me, I was met with the face of an old woman who had been missing an eye. Okay, technically she had both eyes, but one of them was a weird white color like you see in movies. She startled me so much that I ran out of my room, but when I went back in, it was empty. The next day, I said what had happened and my sister told me she saw the same thing that night.

A Few Extras

There were a few other things that happened throughout the years, one of which was a cat that followed my mom around. Another one that was just kind of annoying was that there was this guy with sharp teeth and he was covered in black hair. He never really did anything to me, but whenever he was around, we always knew it, because he smelled like rotting mice. There was also one that tried to possess me or something. He also had a friend with him who could burn you just by touching you, which was bad for me, since I’m the one he touched (imagine dating a guy like that). Then, there was one that I found in my fiancée’s basement. He was an ugly one with big teeth coming out of his mouth and some messed up skin like Freddy Krueger, but worse. I also just see some random things around, like people that are torn up or look like they were just in a car accident, people that look like they were burned alive, or some that have bones and muscle tissue just hanging there, and most of them would just disappear right in front of me.

I found some of these things to be scary back when they happened, but I no longer fear much of it. I don’t know if you will be scared by it, but that is not my intention. My intentions are to talk about what has happened to me, and if something similar has happened to you, maybe it will help you to know you’re not alone. Also, I would love to hear what you think. If you think it's fake, if you think I'm telling the truth, if you would have been scared if you experienced it, or maybe tell me your own experiences! I would love to hear all about them!

Thank you kindly for reading!
