Is Your Power Line Down?

Updated on November 19, 2012

We live on a 4 and ½-acre heavily wooded lot on Lake Logan-Martin in the Beautiful State of Alabama. The lots next to ours are also heavily wooded. Our place has been a summer home, so there has not been much landscape maintenance over the years. There hasn't been any landscape maintenance on the adjoining lots. There is a mix of hardwood and pine trees throughout, in a variety of conditions and sizes.

Some of the trees have fallen across the landscape over the years, and some continually drop their branches from time to time. There are some trees that are dead, but still standing, which are subject to being felled by the elements of wind, rain and lightning.

One such tree stands next to our dirt driveway in a place where we park one of our cars. A few days ago, on a sunny day with no wind, the tree trunk snapped about five feet above the ground and fell, catching its dead branches onto the living branches of another tree, leaving it precariously in a suspended position over the car!

The tree's angle also ran a few feet parallel to the power line.

Not having any resources, such as a chain saw to remedy the situation on our own, the situation remained in this position for a few days.

We were able to rescue the car from danger and avoided the area under and around the tree, and warned all visitors of the danger.

Today there was a storm, complete with high winds, rain and lightning, which caused the tree to finally crash to the ground! After the weather calmed, I ventured out of the house to assess the situation to find the tree lying parallel to the driveway, so not obstructing it, but gravity had pulled it down, catching its branches onto the electric power line. The tree ripped the line from the power pole, almost taking the 'box', too!

Because of the thick layer of leaves on the forest floor, the live wires caused a potential fire threat. We promptly called the Power Company to report the problem and a truck was dispatched to our location, arriving about three hours later.

Since I tend to Spiritualize everything that happens, especially the crisis events in my life, I pondered what message God may have for me in this situation/circumstance.

I have learned there is a lot of symbolism in God's Word, and also in the events in our lives, which God uses to help us understand, or to give us a revelation.

I began to think about what the trees would symbolically represent.

There are strong, mature, flourishing things in our lives, such as healthy, supportive relationships or situations, such as jobs, etc. Also, there are the things we neglect in our lives which need pruning, which are like the wild plants in the forest, .....wild vines and briars, entangling our thoughts or progress, spiritually, such as prayerlessness, sin, or spiritual warfare. Then, too, there are the dead trees, which clutter our lives, representing our painful pasts, or a dysfunctional, unhealthy relationship, an addiction, or an impossible situation that threatens our safety, which we need to sever. These are symbolized by the dead or dying trees.

The Electric Power Line in this situation, represents, for me, the Holy Spirit.

It is the Power of God Who runs through us and through all our situations, supernaturally.

When we encounter a 'Storm,' or crisis (dead tree), it crashes down upon us, threatening our safety. Just how strong is that Power Line to enable us to endure the crisis?

As many of you know, my family is going through a lot of stressful situations, and we have been suffering through a rapid, relentless series of crisis or tests, on a daily basis.

Symbolically, a lot of dead trees have been falling on our "Power Line."

Today, the request for assistance from the Power Company (representing prayer) was responded to (answered prayer), and the Electric wires were put into place again by a QUALIFIED PERSON (Representing Jesus), and our safety was restored.

Through it all, our electric power was never interrupted!

The Faithfulness and Eternal Grace of God's Providential Care, Protection, and Restoration, through His Holy Spirit was once again manifested in a practical way in my world!

"Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal which comes upon you to prove you,

as through something strange were happening to you?.

Cast all your anxieties on HIM, for HE cares about you.

Be sober, be watchful.

Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

Resist him, firm in your faith, knowing that the same experience of suffering is required

of your Brotherhood throughout the world.

And after you have suffered a little while, the GOD of all Grace,

WHO has called you to HIS Eternal Glory in Christ,

will HIMSELF restore, establish, and strengthen you."

I Peter 4:12 and 5:7-10
