1 Cross + 3 Nails = 4given
The title to this piece could easily be described as Maths for the simple. That's because it is. That's because it's a description of the Gospel. The other way to say it is this 'He was wounded for our sins'. This is how the Bible puts it. Either way this is the description of a transaction that has taken place. That transaction was Jesus, the Son of God giving His life in exchange for our forgiveness.
See, that's simple too. Heaven in a place for perfect people to go when the end comes. But none of us are perfect. So here's the situation, if you were to imagine that Heaven has an entrance fee which is around 5000000000000000,0000000 pounds or dollars then you would be ready to admit that absolutely nobody has that kind of money. But what if Heaven's owner Himself paid for you to come in out of His very own money?? This is pretty much what happened when God made His plan to get people into Heaven- only it's not money that is the cost for getting into Heaven, It is holiness, perfect goodness like God Him self's. We don't have that do we? I mean, none of us have that kind of perfect goodness. We would need to have someone who is perfectly good let us use theirs. But who would do that kinda thing?? And, erm, who do you know who has perfect goodness of their own- never mind some to spare. But it's needed. We can't get in without it. Around about now would be a good time to start panicking!
Or maybe not....
Remember the idea we thought about a little while back? The one where God gives you 5000000000000000,0000000 out of His own money to let you in? Hmmm, what if that actually happened? What if God paid the price Himself for you to be able to spend eternity in perfect happiness in Heaven with Him?
Hold that thought...
We looked at a transaction taking place involving the Son of God and the forgiveness of our sins at the beginning of this piece. Then we looked at how we need to be perfectly good to get into Heaven. We're not perfectly good though, and we can't ever be- but it is perfect goodness and nothing even a tiny bit short of it that's needed. So if we need perfect goodness and we have sin in our lives (and everybody does because as we've reasoned, no one is perfectly good) then we need to have our sins forgiven so that we can have a relationship with God while on Earth and so that we can spend forever in Heaven with Him afterward. Good News! God sent His Son Jesus to come to the Earth and to tell everyone about how to know God and have Him in your everyday life as well as how to be able to spend eternity with Him in Heaven. He then made these things possible by giving His life as a sacrifice so that He could take God's punishment for every one of us sinners, so that when we want to be able to get to know God and have Him in our lives speaking to us and listening to us everyday as often as we want to communicate with Him- and even more- spend forever in Heaven with Him!, we can say "Jesus paid the debt for my sins and took the punishment so that I don't have to".
If you think of it this way, when Jesus was on the cross He became like a human shield, and He took the shots meant for us. Because only God is perfect, only God could pay the cost of $$$Perfect and so God the Father sent His Son Christ Jesus to Earth as a human so that a sacrifice could be made from amongst humanity to pay the price for all of humanity. Of course Jesus was the only human to have ever been perfect- that's because He was God walking the Earth as a human, and This made God so happy because He loves us and wants us to be able to be children of His who talk to Him and listen to Him and when the time comes, to be in Heaven with Him.
So that's our simple Maths explained- Jesus died so we could be forgiven, or
1 CROSS + 3 NAILS = 4GIVEN!
If you are no already living your life in a relationship with God, and sure that you have eternity with Him to look forward to please pray to God now and ask for Him to forgive you for your sins because Jesus, His Son has paid the price of these for you.
