Online Bible Verses - 1 Peter Chapter 1: Christ will return. Be aware and be ready.

Updated on July 9, 2012

“[Be Holy] Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming.” 1 Peter 1:13NIV

I constantly remind my children to view things on an eternal timeline. Put another way, include God in all things. In fact, call on Him to remind us to do just that. This because, there exists a tendency to ignore Him when our flesh has the ship’s helm. So easy to get caught up in the here and now, put Him aside and tackle all things on our own. In that mode, one could easily go through an entire day without even thinking about God.

Today’s verse speaks of being spiritually alert, part of which means looking out into the future. A future where your 401K won’t matter much. It ain’t looking to good right now anyway, at least mine isn’t. Given that line of thought, we might do well to incorporate the Lord into our daily plan. Maybe get right up and thank Him for just being Him. Go out and remind the kids to thank Him for that great mom they have and for the food they are wolfing down. Come to think of it, be constantly aware that He might do a much better job of navigating those daily concerns which tend to take us prisoner and push Him aside. Look forward, way forward, to a hoped for time when everything we want to fix but cannot will be taken care of someone much bigger than we are.
