Will The World End In 2012 Like The Mayans Say

Updated on December 16, 2012

So what is the destiny of mankind? Many people believe that the end of the world as we know it is very close and most agree that there is little we can do about it. According to calendars from cultures such as the Mayans, the world will come to an abrupt end on December 21st of the year 2012. Pretty scary information and unfortunately there is quite a bit of historical data that shows the Mayans were not the only civilization who has predicted this in their calendar and writings. What factual information do we have that could support this theory or belief? In this paper I will provide some opinions, predictions, and facts from a number of people and organizations that may help you form your own views on what will happen or not happen in 2012.

Nostradamus Prophecies For Apocalypse 2012

The prophecies of Nostradamus have been well documented through the years and in 2012 we have yet another prediction linked to the writings and theories of the icon to astrologers and occult members alike. The Nostradamus theory according to those who claimed to have successfully translated his "prophecies" is that mass destruction will be caused by a cataclysmic event in the year 2012. This is also know as the Nostradamus effect.

In the sky will be seen a great fire dragging a trail of sparks”.

This line taken from one of many Nostradamus "quatrains" sems to suggest that a comet will pass very close to earth or possibly even collide with our planet, causing the kind of destruction that would end life as we know it.

Additional lines taken from his prophecies include:

King of terror shall come from the sky. He will bring to life the King of Mongols.”

Some theorists suggest that this means after the comet event, China will become stronger and engage all countries seeking world domination. These quotes can be interpreted many ways as this has always been the case with his prophecies and quatrains. The doomsday predictions are increasingly popular as the date draws near and people's curiosity peaks. Who doesnt want to know if the end of civilization is near?

Mayan Calendar And Predictions

The date December 21st 2012 will mark the end of an era according to the Mayan long count calendar. The ancient Maya considered making it to the end of a "cycle" to be a reason for celebration not concern. Obviously today's world is very concerned about the global environment and with the many catastrophes of late, ancient predictions way heavy on our minds. Why would so many believe that the end of the world will occur? Media hype is a big contributer in our age of social media and mass television broadcasting capabilities.

Upon the "winter solstice of 2012" the sun will be in direct allignment with the Milky Way and on that date at approximately 11:11 pm typical energy which comes to Earth from the center of the Milky Way will be changed or disrupted from it's normal pattern. What does this mean to humans on Earth and how could it possibly cause the end of days?

Scientist's agree that there will be a change, however there is no knowledge or data that suggest this will cause a catastrophic change to our environment, muchless a shift of our planet's axis. There have been theories that Mother Earth will reverse it's course of revolution causing major climate anomalies along with destruction to the Earth's crust.

Most scientist agree that it is very unlikely that the Mayan's could have had the ability to predict such events but it is well known that the Mayan culture possessed very high capabilities in math and science.

Could Solar Flares End All Civilization?

As of late, the notion of solar flares having the ability to end life on our planet has become a big topic of conversation amongst scientist's and the general public. So what are solar flares and how could an event like this cause the end of civilization as we know it?

A solar flare has been defined as: "A sudden, rapid, and intense variation of brightness". This generally occurs when magnetic energy that has built up in the solar atmosphere is suddenly released. The over all amount of energy which is released is equivalent to millions of 100 megaton hydrogen bombs exploding at the same time.

The solar flares extend out of the sun with gas temperatures reaching over 1-2 million degrees kelvin. The frequency of solar flares increase as the sun reaches the maximum level of it's eleven year cycle. The maximum state of the solar cycle is expected within the year 2011 give or take a few years.

Is A Solar Flare A Legitimate Threat To Our Planet?

The last recorded major solar flare was in 2003 and another large solar eruption came in 2005. Yes, a solar flare could exterminate life on earth but as of yet there is no evidence to suggest that this occurance will happen in the near future.

Impact Of A Super Solar Flare According To Nasa

A recent study by NASA concluded with a 132 page report on severe space weather events and the effects on our planet and technology based lifestyle. According to NASA nothing is immune from space weather including your bathroom. What does that mean? Even your bathroom or toilet water will not function properly during a major solar flare event.

Our power grids are now more vulnerable then ever and this is in part because as utility companies have joined grids together to cover emergency power needs over long distances the fact that these grids are all interconnected makes them more succeptible to failure.

A storm that may resemble the super storm of 1921 would cause widespread failures includingsatellite malfunctions, radio blackouts, telecommunication loss, problems with gps, banking and finance, and major transportation problems. As you can see these listed effects are enough to cause worldwide panic and a host of difficulties which would be hard to overcome.

At the moment, no one knows when the next super solar storm will erupt. It could be 100 years away or just 100 days. It's something to think about the next time you flush.

Will Our World As We Know It End In 2012?

Will the world really end as we know it making mankind extinct only leaving some small evidence possibly of our existance?

I dont know any better then any other human being who is concerned about life after 2012 but fortunately this gives us a little time to ponder what we could do better. If we are lucky and Earth is not hit by a comet or destroyed bt natural disasters maybe we can make the changes needed to provide a good and stable place to enjoy life for future generations of people.

Interesting, maybe it is Gods way of cleansing the earth! I would be happy to just lose a few politicians. Maybe after that we could get busy starting over eh?

The world will not end, as these cataclysmic events have happened before in the past. Yes there will probably be millions killed in process, and world maps will have to be redrawn. Some land will disappear altogether under the sea, whilst in other places land will rise up from the sea. Darkness will prevail for 3 days during this massive upheaval of earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanoes, but after a while everything will settle down and the world will continue as before, except that it will rotation will have reversed so that sun rises in the west and sets in the east. The few million people to survive this event will go on to repopulate the world. God's way of cleansing the world of corruption and overpopulation.

Thanks for reading. Who really knows what will happen in 2012 anyway. It is all speculation!

Thanks for your great article and some few clarifications. I have been too reluctant to read this whole 2012 thing. But your hub just briefly explained the points I wanted.

They don't know how to read the Mayan calendar. I notice that in christian circles, especially TV, that leaders are promoting political action to stem the tide. It says right in the book,". . . these things must take place first." Great article!

I have been meaning to visit. I am a production specialist. I need an impresario. Do you know one?

The world as we know it is ending as we read.

I don't believe in the one catastrophe on a given date theories, but I do believe opening your eyes to the ongoing ones should give us all a hint that things are changing. How we come out on the other side is both an interesting and scary prospect. I kind of like the theory that the change will make the planet a better more humane place. But I am an irritatingly positive thinker.
