9-Year-Old Kierra Sheard Sings Gospel With Her Mother, Karen Clark-Sheard

Updated on June 26, 2014

Kierra Sheard made her debut at Bailey Cathedral, Detroit, Michigan

Would you like to hear some incredible singing? Listen to Grammy, Stellar and Dove Award nominee and winners, Karen Clark-Sheard and daughter, Kierra "KiKi" Sheard sing together. This is a video of Kierra at 9-years-old, singing her debut song “Will Of God,” (not The Safest Place). Kierra is 25-years-old now. Kierra Sheard sang with fire, anointing and conviction even as a young girl. You can understand why Kierra is such a phenomenal singer. Her new album "Graceland," can be pre-order before the release on July 22.

My intention was to write a hub about mother and daughter duets. I was going to display several videos of duets, but after I came across the video of Karen Clark-Sheard and her daughter, Kierra Sheard, singing together, my mind was changed. Kierra's singing was incredible. Kierra's aunt, Twinkie Clark, was the organ accompanist.

The acclaimed Karen Clark-Sheard is a national American Gospel Recording Artist, and I am a fan of hers. She displays an awesome Christian character as a woman, wife and mother. She has shared her testimony in print and on TBN.

The Sheard family have a docu-series, reality TV show, on BET called, "The Sheard," which debuted in April 2013. It is the number one reality cable TV show in its timeslot.

A Mother's Love goes a long way. The accompanying video shows the love, nurturing and training that Karen provides to her young impressionable daughter. And KiKi gives the love back to her mom. As they sing together, young KiKi seeks the approval of her mom, and Karen continuously guides KiKi throughout the song.

Watch the body language going on during the singing. The eye-to-eye contact, the warm smiles, the looking at each other, and the hug at the end.

There are a number of lessons I picked up while watching this video, and I will share them with you. The duo does more than sing and entertain you, they touch your heart with the anointing they both possess. This is pure Gospel singing at it's best.

Lessons To Ponder about the Mother

  • The mother teaches by example.
  • The mother adores her daughter.
  • The mother shows her love for her daughter.
  • The mother gives approval to her daughter.
  • The mother encourages her daughter.

Lessons To Ponder about the Daughter

  • The daughter looks up to her mom.
  • The daughter seeks the approval of her mom.
  • The daughter enjoys singing.
  • The daughter sings with all she has in her.
  • The daughter receives the love from her mother.

A little bit about Karen Clark-Sheard. She was raised, the daughter of Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark (deceased), a great choir director. Dr. Mattie Moss-Clark was a firm teacher of music, and expected only the best of her singers. She trained her daughters to sing, and the Clark Sisters have made history in the Gospel recording business.

Karen Clark-Sheard was born November 15, 1960, has two children, Kierra and J. Drew Sheard, II, she is married to J. Drew Sheard, Sr., pastor of Greater Emmanuel Institutional Church of God In Christ in Detroit, Michigan.

Karen Clark-Sheard has been singing for more than 30 years. When she made the album, “Second Chance,” she sang about how she was given a two percent chance to live. She had gone into the hospital for one matter, and then she ended up in a coma. Her husband and their faith kept their family strong. Karen sings like “nobody's business,” (that means the best). Her latest album is “All-In-One.”

Kierra Sheard. As for Kierra "KiKi" Sheard, she is a phenomenal young woman, singer, and Evangelist. I watched a video of her preaching/ministering at a church in Tennessee, and she delivers Big! KiKi graduated from Wayne State University in 2011 with a bachelors degree in English and a minor in Psychology. She is no longer engaged to Welton Smith, IV, Pastor of New Life Family church. Kierra Sheard is a solo recording artist and loved, especially, by the young people.

Karen Clark-Sheard and Kierra Sheard's singing will live on for generations to come.

Amazing voices. Gospel is like music of the spheres, unique. The vibrations are incredible and I understand now why it is practised in the churches. I love Mary, Mary and their soul songs. They also have the same effect on me. Awesome! Thanks for changing your mind and sharing this!

Hi Dee, it's great to see you. When Kierra was only 9, she belted it out like her mom. These two can sing their hearts out. And I thought with it being mother's days coming, this would be a great article to write.

Thanks for your comments and support.
