Who Was Jesus?
The Deity of Christ:
Jesus Christ is the only Son of God (John 1:18, John 3:16, John 3:18, 1 John 1:4). He is God in the flesh (I Tim. 3:16, John 1:14, 1 John 4:3), and the visible manifestation of the Father’s attributes (II Tim. 1:10, John 1:14, John 1:18, John 8:38, John 14:7, I John 1:2). He was sent by God (John 3:34, John 16:28, I John 4:9-10), and He did his Father’s will in all things (John 4:34, John 6:38). He was both fully God (Col. 1:15, Luke 9:20, Matt. 4:10, Mark 10:18) and fully human (John 1:14, Rom. 8:3, I John 4:2).
The Humanity of Christ:
Jesus Christ was born of a virgin by the Holy Spirit (Isa. 7:14, Matt. 1:18, Matt. 1:23). In His humanity He experienced the full scope of earthly life (Heb. 4:15, Heb. 5:8.) He felt pain, both physical (Heb. 13:12, Luke 22:44) and emotional (Mark 15:34, Luke 19:41, John 11:35). He felt tired (John 4:6), He felt hungry (Matt. 4:2), He felt thirsty (John 19:28). Though completely human, he never once sinned either in thought or in deed (II Cor. 5:21, Heb. 4:15, I Peter 2:21).
The Works of Christ:
Jesus healed (Matt. 8:7, Matt. 12:22, Luke 7:21) and worked other miracles (John 4:46, John 6:19) for the glory of the Father (John 17:1).
Jesus Christ suffered (Heb. 13:12) and died (Rom. 5:8, Rom. 14:9, I Cor. 15:3), for my sins and the sins of the whole world (I John 2:2, II Cor. 5:14) and rose again on the third day (John 2:19, I Cor. 15:4). The salvation of God through Jesus is available to those who believe this (Acts 15:11, Acts 16:31, Rom. 10:9).
Offices of Christ:
Jesus taught under the direct authority of His Father (Matt. 17:5, Mark 1:38, Luke 10:16) and foretold His own death resurrection and ascension (John 11:18, John 18:32).
Christ is now at the right hand of God the Father in heaven (Matt. 16:19, Luke 22:69, Acts 7:56, Heb. 1:3) interceding on behalf of believers everywhere (Rom. 8:34, Heb. 4:14, Heb. 7:25).
He rules over all creation (II Tim. 2:12, Rev. 11:15, Rev. 20:6), and governs His church (John 18:36-37, Eph. 5:23) by the authority given Him by His father (Matt. 28:18). After the rapture, He will judge those who have rejected Him (Rom. 2:16, II Tim. 4:1).
The Return of Christ:
At the end of the dispensation of grace Jesus Christ will return (John 14:3, Rev. 22:12) in His glorified state (Matt. 24:27,30, Rev. 19:11) at a time no one knows (Matt. 24:36, I Thess. 5:2), to take the Church, His Bride home to be with Him forever (I Thess. 4:17, Rev.21:2-7, Rev.22:20).
