A Rendezvous with Great Spirit

“Love is a language that two people speak

And only the two of them understand ...”

How would you feel to really know that your feeling lonely beckons your beloved to your side?

How would you feel if your lover loved you as though you were the only person in the world that mattered to him or to her?

How would you feel if you had a world all to yourselves to share between the two of you?

How would you feel to really know that although you once lost each other, there is complete certainty that destiny will take you back to each other's arms again?

How would you feel to really know that the two of you speak a language that only the two of you understand---the language of a love born in eternity?

Most of us have experienced something similar sometime in our lifetime. There is nothing new or esoteric with such an experience for most of us. It has and always been a subject of love songs.

The first time I had dreamt about the song, I had attributed it as inspiration from a dearly beloved departed, like I do some songs mentioned in " Songs and Soul: A Spiritual Experience .”

When I next came across the song during my silent sitting mediation, however, I felt there was more than meets the eye, a broader dimension to the experience with the song. To me, this time it was inspiration sent by the Great Spirit, not to me alone, but for everyone who is willing to listen with the heart of one's soul.

Listening with the heart of one’s soul.

Artists have a way with feelings and capturing snapshots of eternal secrets through lyrics and melodies. It has been said that there are several ways that God and his universe try to communicate to us and one of these is through the lyrics of songs that we “coincidentally” encounter. If you keep alert to these communications, you may notice that a question on your mind seems to be answered by a song you encounter by “coincidence.” Sometimes a word or a phrase that crosses your mind may be the same word or phrase uttered in a conversation by people nearby.

As we journey through our lifetime and keep our hearts tuned in to how we relate to situations, we realize that as we develop a more mature perspective, our focus veers away from being entirely dependent on the material world of external circumstances to a richer inner life. What was once a penchant for a romantic relation with the opposite sex may turn to a broader connectedness to nature and God’s creation through the knowing of how much God and his universe really loves us unconditionally.

Love songs which used to remind one of a girl(/boy)friend now remind us of our limitless spirit as a manifestation of our connection to and being securely loved by the Great Spirit. Spiritual inspirations come to visit more often to invigorate us on a journey where material gain or tangible affirmations may sometimes be absent.

This hub starts with questions in an attempt to evoke an experience similar to the one evoked by the song I dreamt, whose lyrics I present below. Decide what the lyrics mean if spoken by God or the Divine or Great Spirit to you as you listen to the Youtube video. The italicization is mine.

In a lifetime

Made of memories

I believe

In destiny

Every moment returns again in time

When I’ve got the future on my mind

Know that you’ll be the only one

Meet me halfway

Across the sky

Out where the world belongs

To only you and i

Meet me halfway

Across the sky

Make this a new beginning of another life.

In a lifetime

There is only love

Reaching for the lonely one

We are stronger when we are given love

When we put emotions on the line

Know that we are the timeless ones

Meet me halfway

Across the sky

Out where the world belongs

To only you and i

Meet me halfway

Across the sky

Make this a new beginning of another life.

[instrumental interlude Quote:

Love is a language that two people speak

And only the two of them understand ...]

Meet me halfway

Across the sky

Out where the world belongs

To only you and i

Meet me halfway

Across the sky

Make this a new beginning of another life.”

- Meet me halfway by Kenny Loggins

Who knows if these chance encounters with the song, “Meet Me Halfway”, are really as I take them to be, a message of inspiration from a beloved departed and eventually Great Spirit.

In the end, it will be all up to each one of us in what way or how we can attune our hearts to hear what our souls are longing to hear---the Greatest Lover’s invitation:

Meet Me halfway.
