A Valentine's Gift- Devotions for Couples
The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 12:18 (NIV)
Although joking is a great way to let off some steam and is a way of communication it can be hurtful. Sometimes I think that my husband and I would make a good sitcom and other times a trashy talk show. It is terrible the way we talk to each other sometimes. Most of it is just joking and that is our way of communicating, but it is not nice. Even if you are joking you still thought of it and the thought entered your mind, therefore it still hurts. Mostly, we do this when no one is around but it certainly can't always bring about good things. Sometimes we get a chuckle out of our creative comebacks. We should watch our tongues and think before we speak. Unlike most Christian books for couples I prefer raw honesty, sometimes it is refreshing and shocking but it gets to the point. Reckless words do pierce like a sword and if you are anything like me who is extremely sensitive it is even harder to take. Often times we only think that women are sensitive, but I know I have hurt my husbands feelings time and time again. Woman we shouldn't always start feeling sorry for ourselves as some of us do. This type of behavior can cause our husbands to become even more frustrated. I believe that they have a harder time in expressing themselves and most times anger comes to them easier than tears.
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that you could please guide or words and our tongues. I pray that our tongues can have words of comfort and healing. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
