The Sure Foundation
A foundation stone, or cornerstone, is the very first stone used in the construction of a masonry foundation. The importance of the cornerstone is that its placement determines the setting of every other stone within the construction of a building.
The cornerstone must be set in a precise location which is determined by several factors, including the width and highth of the planned building.
If the cornerstone is not set in a precise position, the end result will be a crooked building.
The foundation is already laid, the Chief cornerstone is already set in place and the precise instruction given to us by God, allows us to make sure that we are lined up perfectly with the cornerstone.
God is the most skilled builder. Not one single architect on this earth can compare to His construction genius.
Just as He gave precise plans for building the wilderness temple, Solomon's temple, and Noah's Ark that would protect the only 8 human-beings who would survive the flood, (Noah and his family.) And Just as He gave Ezekiel the exact measurements to the Millennial temple that will stand in the last days, God described each measurement in precise detail.
Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water. 1 Peter 3:20
Not only did God cover the most minute details involved with constructing the temple, He also covered the measurements of the contents inside of each of the Biblical temples.
How We Know That The Foundation Is Already In Place
The Apostle Paul wrote about the sure foundation when He spoke about Jesus, who "came and preached to them which were afar off, and to them who were neigh."
For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father. Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God; Ephesians 2:18-19
And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone; In whom all the building fitly framed together groweth unto an holy temple in the Lord: In whom ye also are builded together for an habitation of God through the Spirit. Ephesians 2:21
We are built upon:
- The Apostles
- The Prophets
- Jesus is the Chief CornerStone.
This is the foundation that we are to be rooted and grounded and fully established on. God's sure foundation.
Solomon's Temple, Examples Of the Building Measurement Instructions found in 1 Chronicles 28, 1 Kings 6
Like the construction of a natural building, God also instructs us in Heavenly building principles.
The book of Hebrews tell us that the original, natural temple in Israel was a foreshadow.
For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law: Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount. Hebrews 8:4-5.
God's word has much to say about measurements regarding us.
Some Scriptures That Involve Spiritual Measurments
Book Chapter and Verse
Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure.
But thou shalt have a perfect and just weight, a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be lengthened in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.
TEKEL; Thou art weighed in the balances, and art found wanting.
But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.
Ephesians 4:3 Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Fundamental Foundational Doctrines
The book of Hebrews says this about the foundation:
Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God, Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment. And this will we do, if God permit. Hebrews 6:1-3
The passage begins with "leaving the principles..."
It is not saying that we no longer abide in the doctrines of:
- Laying on of hands
- The resurrection of the dead
- Eternal judgment
We should already be firmly established in these fundamental doctrines, "rooted and grounded" in them. The fundamental doctrines should be a part of who we now are. Once we are established, we press on.
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Ephesians 3:17-19
The Only Good Foundation
More Than One Foundation
Jesus described two types of foundations believers can be built upon. The reason I say that both of these foundations are about those who follow Christ Jesus, is because He says, "whosoever hearth these sayings of Mine," and He includes those who do them and those who do not. So those who hear His sayings, have the ears to hear, though some can reject, and be slothful in doing the things that Jesus said to do.
The Sure Foundation
Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. Matthew 7:24-25
The Sandy Foundation
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. Matthew 7:26
Verses About The Rock
And they remembered that God was their rock, and the high God their redeemer.
But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob; (from thence is the shepherd, the stone of Israel:
But Jeshurun waxed fat, and kicked: thou art waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered with fatness; then he forsook God which made him, and lightly esteemed the Rock of his salvation.
I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
Who is the Rock?
Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ. 1 Corinthians 10:1-4
Unless we are in Christ Jesus, abiding in Him, there can be no solid construction at all.
Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. Psalms 127:1
