Always Thanks - Giving
‘And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, and fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks; and he was a Samaritan. And Jesus answering said, were there not ten cleansed? But where are the nine?’ – Luke 17:15 – 17
Those that steal, and those that will not give thanks are the same in eyes of God. Besides giving thanks, we should know that ‘Thanks’ depreciates with time. The issue of thanks giving is so important to God and so it is with Jesus. The above scripture is a proof that Jesus, who is God, is desirous of our thanksgiving. Although we may not know the effect of our ingratitude until someone does the same to us; receiving benefits from us without even acknowledging them.
From the above scripture, we can draw out a statistics of thanksgiving, which is obvious – 10% of people that received benefits from God heartily give thanks for such benefits. In order words, 90% of people that received benefits from God are never mindful of saying simple ‘Thank You’ to God! It should be noted that this subject is not looking at gratification or appreciation in kind or cash, but the simple words – Thank you.
It has been proven once and again that those that will not thank man will not thank God, Who they can not see physically. Not mindful of God may be the major reason why some people do not thank Him. Many people although they are mindful of God, but believe that the benefits they receive from God are their rights – so there is no need to thank God for what rightfully belong to them. Some are economical in their giving thanks to men and to God because they think they are capable of obtaining the benefits by their own means. Such people think that their alarm clock wakes them up every morning and not God; forgeting that it is only he that is alive that can hear the sound of the alarm clock.
In His wisdom, God has given us the most important things in Life freely. Take for example the air we breathe, without which we all can not survive the next one hour. The rich and the poor owe God gratitude for the air we breathe freely. Next in rank of benefits is the water we drink. Water is life, yet water is free. About 75% of the world is made of water and about the same percentage of water constitutes our body fluid. Without these two essential elements, life will cease. You do not want to know the actual number of people alive today that always thank God for the air and the water needed for their existence.
When Israel left Egypt, Jehovah did something for them in the desert which only science can explain and appreciate. The Pillars of Cloud and of Fire were mysteries to the Children of Israel right there in the desert, on their way to the Promised Land. The Pillar of Cloud was made by God to protect Israel from the excessive heat by the day in the desert. The temperatures of the deserts are always very high in the daytime than any other place in the world. In the same manner, God provided the Pillar of Fire for the Israelites in the desert by night, to heat up the desert which is always extremely cold in the night. Despite these divine wisdom and provision, the Children of Israel do not give thanks to God, instead they murmured against Him.
The tradition of National Thanksgiving day in the United States of America should be emulated by other nations of the world. It is good for a nation to thank God. ‘Thank You’ is the password and the key to abundance. As many people say these words, the windows of heaven are being opened upon them to receive more blessings. Children should thank their parents for their efforts in making the children become somebody in life. Citizens should thank a good government and focused leadership for the well being of the State. And the governments should thank God, for the power that be is of the Lord and it is God that rules in the affairs of men.
Everybody everywhere should thank God everyday, for all His magnanimous benefits loaded upon us all. People may rob you of your ‘thank you’ but don’t rob God of His ‘Thank You’
Three men went to the river to swim: one with a cover cloth, the second with underwear and the third with nothing on. After their swimming, the first man came out from the water, took his cloth and gave thanks to God that covers his entire body. The second man also came out from the water and gave thanks to God for the underwear that covers his private part. At last, the third man came out from the water – naked. Shifting his gaze unto the heaven, he thanked God deeply, saying he is better than those who have died and been buried. God honored his thanks like the one Samarian leper that returned to Jesus to give thanks.
If you will owe anybody anything, don’t owe ‘Thank you’, especially to God.
