An Effort to Squelch Freedom of Religion
I wanted to write today regarding the recent Supreme Court ruling that a cross on federal land displayed to honor veterans of foreign wars could remain.
This cross has been displayed in the Mojave Desert for over forty years, yet Frank Buono, a former park employee sued citing the “official preference for the cross” violated the First Amendment and “an establishment of a religion.” It began -- he so claims when someone wanted to display a Buddah on the same property but this was refused.
The ruling finally came down to -- the cross could remain. And it would appear this ruling would make it more difficult in the future for people to sue over other such religious displays. However, I’m writing today about something that has been given little attention and it affects us all.
If anyone thinks the person suing 1) acted completely alone (where would a former park service employee obtain the funds to take this all the way to the Supreme Court?) and 2) Buono acted for altruistic reasons, think again.
The proof that Buono‘s true motive was to stop the expression of Christianity in any venue for any reason is revealed. It is revealed when the land the cross stood on was sold by Congress to the Veterans Of Foreign Wars long before the final decision was handed down. The Veterans of Foreign Wars is a private group. They can put up whatever they want on their own property.
If Buono sued because he had pure reasons and wanted to make certain the constitution was adhered to, then he would have dropped the lawsuit at that moment. He got exactly what he wanted. He got what he said he sued for!
But he didn’t. He kept at it and at one point a lower judge determined the government couldn’t sell the land as that wouldn’t satisfy the problem. Oh really?
Ultimately though - the Supreme Court ruled in its wisdom (or what it has left of wisdom to date) that yes the land could be sold and yes, the cross could remain.
If you’re thinking, OK, so what? They can keep the cross up there, what’s the beef?
Then I ask you to think this through again. The left hates Jews and Christians. They seek to silence, stop, remove any expression of (including my freedom to express my religious beliefs in words) these faiths from our land. The left often hides their true intent. Look what we’ve gotten from our President. He promised us Change and Hope. The only change we’ve gotten is a destroyed constitution, a deficit that is tripled in only one year and rising faster than Tennessee flood waters, not to mention a grab for power the likes of which the citizens of America have never ever seen.
What if – and of course this is merely a dream by this writer – the left aren’t in charge any longer and some “right wing gun toting people-who-cling-to-their-religion” are in the vast majority? What if they have all the power?
The tables could possibly be turned. And that is why we as Americans, no matter where we stand on this matter ought to pay attention. The constitution is not a “fluid” document. When adhered to it protects ALL Americans. When anyone seeks to shut up, shut out, or silence any group, as Mr. Buono apparently attempted to do, all Americans should worry.
