The Lords Prayer

Updated on October 8, 2013

This is The Lords Prayer. In generic Christian teachings it is a prayer to God the Father and It is said to have been left to people on the earth by Jesus

Here below is the Lords Prayer in today's English. There are several versions and variations of the prayer. One version of the Lord's Prayer is published below. You may wish to add a version of the Lord's prayer that you know in the comments box at the end of this hub.

In religious traditions The Lords prayer has been used by Christians, Muslims, Jews and indeed by people of no particular faith whom seek power, protection, love, food, belonging, refuge, help and more from the worship and adoration of almighty god. The Lord's prayer is also referred to as Our Lords Prayer, Our Father, and the catholic lord's prayer. The words to the Lords prayer are as follows:

Father God who art in Heaven,

Hallowed be thy name,

Thy Kingdom come,

Thy will be done,

On Earth as it is in Heaven,

Give us each our daily bread,

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us,

Lead us not into temptation,

And deliver us from all evil,

For Thine is the Kingdom,

The power,

And the Glory,

For ever, and ever,

In simple terms those who recite this prayer do so to invite a good and loving god into their lives. They confirm by praying the words of the lords prayer that they believe in god and that they seek the heavens from where god rules the heavens and the earth. The words of the prayer acknowledge the whereabouts of god and his glorious and power filled nature. Those who pray this prayer ask for the Lord God's kingdom to come to earth and for the will and wishes of god to be done on this earth. The prayer focuses on expressing gratitude for food and nourishment and asks god to forgive the errors, the crimes, the wrongs and the sins of the person at prayer. Historically though versions of the Lord's Prayer vary, the Lords prayer has been noted as being a powerful way of establishing and maintaining a daily relationship with god almighty.

Many millions of people report gaining much comfort and inspiration from saying the Lords Prayer. The prayer is available in churches and places of worship all over the world and in Christian tradition is one of the most cherished pieces of literacy descending from the life of Jesus Christ here on the earth some 2000 years ago.

When I was a child I had to recite that on command at any given time in the day. Even though my family wasn't Catholic, my mother thought it was very important to know it by heart. I still can recite it to this day.

Jesus gave us this prayer as a guide when he taught us how to pray. I use it when I talk to God. But we can also have a conversation with God just like we were talking to one another. I love it that God is my friend too!
