Act of faith 0r act of man?
A man's prayer
A middle age man was walking along the cliff one evening and enjoying the fresh air under the dim moonlight. He accidentally stepped on something and slipped off down the cliff. As the man was about to give up, he was able to grab a branch protruding the cliff side. He hung on for his dear life and started shouting for help. A few minutes passed, and nobody answered. He shouted again, but it seemed he was all alone in that dangerous situation as he thought.
Finally, he remembered God and prayed fervently. He waited, but no help came. He repeated his prayers and still no one came. He ran out of his patience then started shouting at the top of his voice, “God, please save me!” His voice reverberated in the silence of the night, and he could hear the echoes. He shouted several times, “God, please save me. I am tired, and my arms can hold me any longer!” Then, from somewhere, he heard a voice, “Do you believe in me?”. “Yes, God, I believe in you, ” he answered as sweat started to roll over his face. The voice asked the poor man again, “Do you believe in me?” The man replied, “Yes, yes, God, I believe in you. Please, help me!” There was silence. For the third time, he heard the voice again, “Do you believe in me?”. The man unhesitatingly replied, “Yes, God, I believe in you with all my heart and with all my soul. I will do everything that you would want me to do. Please, save me!”. Then the voice answered, “Because you believe in me with all your heart and with all your soul, now let go.”
Holding on for a dear life
Let go, let God
If you are that man hanging for your dear life and a voice from nowhere told you to let go because you have faith, will you let go? An act of faith in God is something like jumping into the unknown. A firm believer in God would always say that God knows everything in us, and he knows what is best for us. They will always teach other people to let go, and let God. It may sound simple, but only a few have ever done it.
A leap of faith
Act of faith or act of man
Many times I was wondering if man’s faith in the unknown can make an individual a better person or it is the person’s act as a man that can define his true nature as a human being. Individuals who believe in some supernatural being claim that the ultimate need of man is the union with the divine. Abraham Maslow’s theory on the Man’s needs explained it vividly. In fact, all the great religions of the world speak of the same thing. I do not question their belief neither I will challenge it nor criticize it. I simply would like to find myself whether faith can make my act as a man truly human. I believe that if I respect the dignity of my fellow human being and help in the preservation of life, I am doing an act of man. I also think that the natural earth environment, especially the water, air, and soil give life to all kinds of organisms on this planet.
Expression of an act of faith
Man must have forgotten that negligence of the natural earth environment will send humanity into the unknown. People believe that God created the heavens and the land and that God made the man be the caretaker of all his creation. Why these God’s believers have failed to fulfill their duty to protect the earth’s environment from further destruction? They kept on praying to their God for personal needs and that of others, but they have asked little for the preservation of God’s creation. If a prayer is an act of faith, therefore, man must perform his duty toward God and his creation.Man must let go what God wanted from the very beginning. His act of faith becomes an act of man because he preserves and protects God's creation.
