An offering to my Revered Master....With Love
I offer this post as an expression of gratitude to my Guru, Sri Sathya Sai Baba who guides me, inspires me and ensures my spiritual growth at all times. What can I offer Him? Everything is already His. I can only offer my heartfelt gratitude to Him on this auspicious day of Gurupurnima.
GOD ALONE GIVES!
It is only God who gives. It is He who blossoms love in our heart. He gives inspiration to do the work and it is He who moves us and executes the work through us. However, in the limited understanding of the mind, it makes us feel that ‘we’ are the doer. This owning of doership is actually the root cause of all the restlessness within us. Whenever we desperately want a certain desire to be fulfilled, which is difficult to get done, our mind gets agitated and tells us that we need to get it done by any means.
Let’s look at it from the perspective of our professional life. We think that we need to manipulate others by ostentatious acts or seek favors from others for realization of our needs whether it is getting a good job, a promotion, a salary hike or an important work assignment. That is a wrong notion. No one can do anything for us however powerful one might be and may have high position in society. The truth is that He alone is the Provider. No one else can provide us or deny and deprive us of anything in the world. It is He who gives or withdraws from us, depending on what we need at that stage of life. And He may choose any of us as His instrument to grant us our needs. The biggest mistake we make is to regard those instruments of God to be the real givers. So it is very important to understand that our desire is fulfilled 'through' others and NOT 'by' others.
If it is His will to give, He can move the world to make things happen for us. And if for some good reasons, God’s will is otherwise, how much ever one may put efforts in that direction, may even bribe or oblige ‘important’ people with gifts or go to the extent of obtaining recommendation be it from Prime Minister or President of the country, God will place a big block in the way and just not let it happen. Then if He is the ultimate signatory authority for granting all that we need, why not seek favor (read as grace) from the most influential one in the entire universe? The one who controls the entire creation! Why go around begging from others for our material needs?
Baba has lovingly advised us ‘’Ask God whatever you want. Seek only from God. Don’t spread Your hands in front of anyone. Everything is there in these Hands. There is nothing that I cannot provide you. Place your reliance completely on me. I will take care of Your smallest of needs.’’ That is the Divine assurance. And the good news is that we do not need anyone’s ‘recommendation’ to convince God. He knows all our needs. He is so easy to be pleased - the only thing God looks for in us is a pure intention and sincerity in our efforts. Without any fear, we must silently do good work and pray to God to take care of our needs. Of course this does not mean that we can disregard others. The key message here is to love all but trust only God.

However we humans wrongly place our reliance on other mortal beings like us. We are unable to keep faith in the ‘unseen’ and instead we place our confidence in the ‘visible’ world. The reason for this is that, with God, we cannot measure the progress of our problem being solved. We feel terribly unsafe on this path as we don’t receive ‘updates’ on the status of our prayers from God and it seems like nothing is working out in our desired direction. After waiting for sometime, we assume the responsibility of the whole thing. That seems logical to the mind. To take charge of the situation! That is what we have always been taught by everyone. To be in action! And we often act based on promptings of mind to fix our problems.
In today’s corporative world, one is so easily tempted to adopt shortcuts to achieve goals and rise quickly to the higher positions. Because of some of us who do that, others are also forced to adopt such mean measures with the fear of being left behind. This only creates more fear, stress, restlessness and confusion in us and thereby society at large. We are losing connection with our true self and resorting to demeaning acts while ignoring the voice of conscience within. The result is an extremely competitive and self-seeking work environment.
The choice is ours- to choose the path of self-conceit (which appears easy and fastest to us) or to choose to trust and rely only on the Universal Master to take care of our needs. He will never fail us, that is for certain. Sometimes, He may make us wait or may say ‘No’ to our desire, but all for our own good. He alone knows our needs. In the infinite wisdom of God, what we seek desperately, may not be what we truly need. It is the path of having ultimate patience and understanding in God’s wisdom.
