Ancient Aliens or God(s)?

Updated on June 19, 2013

Ancient Alien Theorists

The suggestion that religion would crumble if the existence of extraterrestrials was proven true was posed on the very popular series on the History Channel, “Ancient Aliens”. This surprised me. Not the topic of extraterrestrials, but, how their existence would affect the religions of our world. You might have to have been watching the entire series to understand how they came to this question. But in short, the series presents some content formed by Ancient Alien Theorists. The most famous of these is Erich von Däniken, widely regarded as the father of ancient alien theory, also known as ancient alien theory began it all in 1968 with his book “Chariots of the Gods”. The book proposed his theory that, thousands of years ago Earth was visited by space travelers from other planets who shared with early humans their technology and influenced the development of our ancient religions.

What is Religion?

Definition of religion (n) re·li·gion [ ri líjjən ]

  1. beliefs and worship: people's beliefs and opinions concerning the existence, nature, and worship of a deity or deities, and divine involvement in the universe and human life
  2. system: an institutionalized or personal system of beliefs and practices relating to the divine
  3. personal beliefs or values: a set of strongly-held beliefs, values, and attitudes that somebody lives by

There is also that belief that religion sets the standard for our creation and purpose on Earth. When that belief is challenged...who rewrites the story?

A global 2012 poll reports that 59% of the world's population is religious, and 36% are not religious, including 13% who are atheists, with a 9 percent decrease in religious belief from 2005.[5]

Of the 36% who are religious, the following chart shows only 31.5% are Christians.

Vatican Views on UFOs, Aliens, Extraterrestrials

In 2008, Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, the Jesuit director of the Vatican Observatory, said “that the vastness of the universe means it is possible there could be other forms of life outside Earth, even intelligent ones”. His argument is that the aliens would still be considered God’s creations.

How far does this go? Does this mean they are willing to rewrite the bible to accommodate the possibility that biblical accounts were not divine intervention, but that of extraterrestrials?

Alien Visitation vs Angels of God

If extraterrestrials did in fact visit earth and had interaction with humans and they were mistaken for holy or divine beings, does this mean that all divine intervention was really alien visitation?

Here is an example of a one does not equate to all. Does it makes sense to eradicate all divine (or Heavenly) interventions/visitations by implying they are all alien interaction? I think not.

Who Believes in Aliens?

Reuters/Ipsos undertook a poll to measure the strength of human belief in extraterrestrial beings, and the results are astounding.

One out of every five persons believes in extraterrestrials is the conclusion of an exhaustive poll that saw 23,000 people canvassed in 22 countries. While the majority of adults polled did not believe aliens were living here on earth, those polled in Asian nations expressed a strong belief that aliens, disguised as humans, are here. The poll results demonstrate men are more likely to believe in aliens than women.

What is the "Real" Story of Creation?

Okay, so what if extraterrestrials were the key to our existence here on Earth and our development. That may answer the creation question regarding Earthlings…but, it does not answer the question as to the creation of the Universe which would include the Aliens. The Vatican implies that aliens are still God's creation, though they do not necessarily address how that affects the "Story of Creation".

That is a question yet to be answered. Why were “they” created? What is the purpose of their existence? What if God created them in order to create us for larger more cosmic purpose? Couldn’t the original creation story really be about them?

Which do you believe?

If it is proven that extraterrestrials exist and influenced our development and religions, do think religion will die?

Thanks Karwaw...I haven't read the Urantia Book, but have read many similar books of such nature by Ruth Montgomery and also the Seth books by Jane Roberts, both channels from the "other side". Depending upon who you talk to would call them "divine" sources. I have no personal questions regarding the Universe, my article was prompted by the TV series Ancient Aliens and their proposition regarding the fall of organized religion that preach the original Creation Story.

We concern ourselves with trifle things when all we really need do is seek truth. There in lies the answer to such questions. There is a book titled The Urantia Book. It has no earthly author, it's content is of divine nature.

This book details the creation of our planet and man. It explains the heavens, the hierarchy of the heavenly host, the Lucifer rebellion and the default of Adam and Eve. It continues with the rationale that determined Jesus’ purpose for choosing to come to Earth and explains the preparations made over many years for his arrival. It breaks down the many different religions and how they came into being. It gently corrects misconceptions and explains their true purposes.

I urge you to research the book yourself or visit
