Answering Questions About Beauty and Being Beautiful” (Christian Viewpoint)

Updated on August 31, 2015

First question: “Am I beautiful?”

Second question: “Am I beautiful enough?”

~I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.-Psalm 139:14~

~So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. -Genesis 1:27~

“Am I Beautiful?”

Well this is easy. Yes, you are beautiful. If you’re you then you're beautiful. Every race, every nationality, every height and weight, every color; every detail of you is wonderfully and fearfully made! We are created by Perfection! We may not be perfect as He is but we are created in His image----beautifully and wonderfully. This truth is irreversible and undeniable.

God's Masterpiece!

Take for an example an artist. Not everyone can understand nor appreciate his masterpiece. Some may say this and some may say that. Sometimes the artist is the only one who truly understands his art. Now that art of his should be more than grateful that his creator created him in the first place. And then even more rejoice with the fact that his creator created him personally and intimately and made him from nothing into something so beautiful and wonderful.

The truth that God created us should be more than sufficient to keep us from believing hurtful lies by people who can’t understand a masterpiece by the Artist of all artists. And if they can’t understand fellow masterpieces then for sure they themselves can’t truly understand how much of a masterpiece they are too!

You Are Beautiful!

You don't need signatures of creations to prove the uniqueness and purpose of the works of the Creator. If someone says you’re ugly then the only thing you should do is to forgive that person! Same if someone says you’re fat, skinny, black or pale! Forgive but don't believe them. If you’re healthy and eating right then don’t hate your body for being healthy! If you have a beautiful dark skin, do not trade it for anything! Same if you have a beautiful white skin!

~“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.-John 3:16~

~And the testimony is this; that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. - 1 John 5:11-13~

2. “Am I Beautiful Enough?”

Pardon me but I don’t think that question makes sense but nonetheless it is a popular question. You see, how can something in its superlative form be even more superlative? What I’m trying to say is, God never do or make something that is not “enough.” There’s just no such thing. So if God created us then doesn’t that eliminate the question of whether we are “enough?”

God is an infinite God. All that He is, He is perfectly and infinitely. I don’t even want to elaborate on that much longer. That's why we should always remember that though we are created beautifully we shouldn’t get stuck on that truth alone; God values “inner” beauty more than “physical” beauty.

We are effortlessly beautiful—physically but true beauty (inner) is gained with a heart that is right with God and loves Him above all. Both came from God and should be for God.

How can my heart be right with God? --- Well to start with, we need to believe in Jesus. Why?--Because when we were yet sinners Christ died for us Why? --- Because all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Why?—because the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus. (Romans 5:8, 6:23, 3:10)

~ For He Himself knows our frame; He is mindful that we are but dust. As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes. When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, And its place acknowledges it no longer.…-Psalm 103:14-16~

~So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.-2 Corinthians 4:18~

Listen to the Truth!

The word of God says that inner beauty wins over physical beauty at any given time. Let us not forget that our physical beauty has an expiration date. It is somehow a very stern reminder not to hold onto it way too much and so cause us unneeded pain and grief.

~Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.-1 Peter 3:3-4~

~Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire,-1 Timothy 2:9~

Hooray for Inner Beauty!

Our physical beauty should not hinder us nor delude us into thinking that it is the only kind of beauty that matters. So what is inner beauty?

Unlike physical beauty, inner beauty doesn’t have any expiration, though it is not perfected in one click, but it is sure and most importantly, pleasing to our Creator. Many may not appreciate it much more than they appreciate the “physical” type but that will never be a requisite or a threat to disqualify the Truth.

~16 But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh. 17 For the flesh set its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please. 18 but if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the Law. 19 Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, 20 idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, 21 envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. 24 Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.-Galatians 5:16-24~

My Prayer

I pray that may we all believe the truth and reject the lies. In Christ Jesus, we can! Not just in terms of beauty, both outer and inner, for there are so much more!

Pleasing man is a losing game and a self inflicted cruelty. Denying, rejecting and doubting the TRUTH is nothing more as foolishness and prideful stupidity.

  • ~Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!-2 Corinthians 5:17~

And as I conclude, there’s one more thing I want to say, “YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL. NOW GO AND BE FAITHFUL, AND FRUITFUL. BE BEAUTIFUL INSIDE AND OUT.”

Voted Useful and Interesting. We need to be reminded of the true concept of beauty. I believe in the same beautiful principles you do. My poem "My Beauty Will Last" suggests that beauty is a decision. Thank you for your insights.
