Apologetics 102: The Age of the Earth

Updated on April 16, 2012

"If I told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?" John 3:12

So how old is the earth? Is it 4.6 billion or approx 6000? Why does it matter? Does it really matter? How do Biblical creationists explain distant starlight?

In this this series we will resolve these questions. I am a biblical creationist (YEC) I take Genesis as written. I do not believe the age of the earth is salvation issue. Many God fearing Christians hold to an old earth, and you will hear their point of view here as well, On the other hand, I believe the age of the earth is important issue in establishing biblical authority.

Who is that guy? Jason Lisle (who is featured in all of the videos in this article) Attended Wesleyan University where he double majored in physics and astronomy and minored in mathematics, graduated summa sum laude. Then attended the University of Colorado where he earned a Maters degree and Ph.D. in Astrophysics. He also discovered a previously unknown polar alignment of super granules and discovered evidence of solar giant cells. He is a contributing scientist at Answers in Genesis and one of my favorite apologists that advocate the young earth position.

The debate: young earth vs old earth

Does it really matter? Why?
