Archangel Raphael And Magical Associations

Updated on November 18, 2011

Angels are not only of the Christian belief but Pagans often incorporate the Angels with in their rituals. I consider myself to be a Christo- Pagan and because of this I often involve the angels in my rituals and even call the archangels instead of the elements.

Raphael is one of the four archangels that I call upon and therefore I feel it is important to share with you the magical associations of Raphael. That way by end of this hub you will know what kind of rituals, based on intention, you can involve Raphael in to help you.

Let's begin with names. Though it may not be as important you may not be comfortable calling Raphael by that name so you might find one his other names easier to use or one that you connect more with.

His well known name Raphael, means star. However he is called by many other names. His Hebrew name is Beit and his Egyptian name is Thoth. His Celestial title is Messenger Of The Gods, so if you prefer to call him this you can.

The best month of Raphael is unknown. If you have any idea please let me know. The best day is Wednesday. On a Wednesday the hours that are best to incorporate Raphael into your rituals include the first and eighth hours of the day and the third and tenth hours of the night.

You can work with Raphael any day that you choose. Though Wednesday is the day that he is rules over and will be the most helpful on you may incorporate him in your ritual any day.

Raphael is of the planet Mercury and is of the direction East. It is because of his direction being of the East that his element is of Air.

His symbol is an eight pointed star. This symbol may be placed on your alter when doing a ritual involving him and/or can be placed in the east.

His tarot card is The Fool.

When working with Raphael I suggest having lemon on your alter as an offering for lemon is a fruit that is associated with this great archangel and it may prove to be quite helpful in your ritual.

Trees that correspond with this archangel include Almond, Ash, Aspen, Brush, Hazel, Larch, Mulberry, Rowan, Silver Birch and Juniper.

Herbs and flowers can be used in rituals when you try to incorporate Raphael in rituals or ask Raphael for his help. These include carrot, celery, Caraway, Cinquefoil, Dill, Fennel, Fenugreek, Fern, Lavender, Marjoram, Mandrake, Maidenhair Fern. There are so much more. Let's see... there are Lily of the valley, Palm and Vervain.

Animals too can correspond with angels and this does to exclude Raphael. Non-stinging flies are said to be associated with this angel. Along with monkeys, all birds but especially the Ibis.

It is said that Raphael governs the left arm of the body, the brain and nervous system too. Even our respiratory system.

Keep in mind when working with any kind of writing with this angel that black ink and green paper are the best to use.

There are only a few stones that correspond with Raphael but they are still a few stones I can share with you. The list includes Agate, Opal, Yellow Topaz, and Serpentine.

If you want to have a ritual candle for Raphael the best color to use is Yellow because it matches up with Raphael's planetary color which is of course yellow. There are more colors that have been associated with him however and they include sky blue, gold, red and black.

Astrological signs that correspond with him are Gemini and Virgo.

Now he is usually best for certain intentions if you plan on asking him for his help in your rituals. If you are going to do a ritual on business success or the will to succeed then this is the angel for you. Influencing people is also a reason to use Raphael. If you want to do a ritual on anything to do with the theater then once again this is the right guy for you. If you are seeking aid in mental ability or speaking fluently Raphael can come to your aid. If you do a ritual on Wednesday it has been known to help add power to rituals that involve inspiration, communication, the written and spoken word, study, learning and teaching. This day is also a great day to help understanding. With its aid in inspiration Wednesday is a great day for a ritual if you are an artist and you are asking for help, a writer for example, a poet.

I may not feel connected to Raphael personally but that does not mean I do not appreciate him as much as I do Gabriel. He is just as important as any other. I find him to be very helpful and caring. I hope that with this information you may be able to start incorporating him into your rituals as well. And hey, if your not Pagan then maybe you can at least admit to yourself that this Angel is a pretty cool Angel, huh?

The Catholic Feast Day for Archangel Raphael is September 29th, so September is probably his month, although I would suspect that two weeks prior to or following the Feast Day would be his most powerful time of the year.

The precious stone emerald and the color emerald green should be included as focuses for prayers and rituals to Raphael.

      Thank you for sharing.

That is very true, I find him to be very useful with healing as well and am glad to hear that another feels the same way that I do

Raphael also means "God heals". I have found him to be fantastic when it comes to healing and all health related matters.

This is very useful; thank you. I need to call on Raphael the Healer for a friend's sake and it's useful to cross-check ritual colours, elemental affiliation and the like.

I didn't know any of this about Raphael! I had heard that some people deal a lot with Angels, but I never knew anything about it. Good work!
