Are Jews Evil?

Updated on February 1, 2017

Jews Are Called to Serve Humanity

Each day there are hundreds of thousands of searches on the web that ask that question. All the articles that Google brings up say that they are. As I grew up in a home with a Jewish father and a Christian mother, I want to address that question. I spent time as a Christian fundamentalist (10 years) and later converted to Judaism.

Why do so many people hate Jews? It's a historically memory perpetuated by the Catholic Church.
Why do so many people hate Jews? It's a historically memory perpetuated by the Catholic Church.

No, Jews are Not Evil

No, of course, Jews aren’t evil. The Jewish people originated somewhere in the Middle East. Like Arabs, they are Semites – a particular race. No race is good or evil. Only individuals can be good or evil, and even then it’s more like most people have some good and some evil.

Why were Jews Persecuted Historically?

Originally, the Roman Catholic Church said that Jews killed Jesus, and as a result of this, Jews were put into ghettos for their beliefs as well as face tremendous persecution through two thousand years. In all that time, Jews never fought back because it was against their religion.

At some point towards the start of the 20th century, the worm turned. Theodore Hertzl began the Zionist movement – preaching that Jews must return to their own country, Palestine. He said that was the only way that they would stop being treated the way they were.

The only problem with that piece of advice was that Palestine was already inhabited, and as the Jews came in, fights started over land ownership. This is still going on more than a century later.

For the record, the Pope removed the guilt of the Jews from the Roman Catholic Degree in 1960. He declared that they were not guilty of killing Jesus.

Jews are Called to Help Others

Why are Jews Despised Today?

There are always several different factors in a question like this. The most powerful factor is simply historical prejudice. People are taught to hate, and if they are looking for someone to hate, then Jews are as good a target as any.

There is also an element of jealousy and resentment against a people that are so successful. Many cannot understand why Jews do so well, and when people cannot understand something, they begin to search for reasons. When they already have a negative bias, they will believe anything that is presented to them that ties in with that negative bias.

In addition to that, as with any elitist group, those who are successful have a way of treating others as second class citizens. This is not unique to Jews. Just ask anyone who has been exposed to the upper crust (I have as I grew up in that environment). People from the upper classes call people who are middle class and lower ‘White trash’ or ‘poor whites,’ etc. I went to a Christian private school. I was very badly treated because I spoke with the wrong accent and I clearly wasn’t from a Protestant upper class English home. (My late father was a German Jew and my late mother was a South African Afrikaner.)

Origen of Alexandria writes that the Jews "have committed the most abominable of crimes" in conspiring against Christ, and for that reason "the Jewish nation was driven from its country, and another people was called by God to the blessed election"

Why are Jews so Successful?

They are successful for the same reason that Asians are successful. They have a particular culture that encourages intellectual thinking and study from a very young age.

In addition, Judaism provides outstanding community service to all its members. Whereas other groups are not so concerned about their poor, Jews make sure that all Jews, no matter how poor, get an education, etc.

I can give you examples of that.

I was a single mother and did not have the ability to pay for Jewish camps at the end of the year for my daughter. The Jewish community bore the cost of this and she went every year. In addition, young Jewish people are allowed a free trip to Israel before they are 25 (Birthright). All that is required to be paid is the insurance. When I was unable to pay for this, the Jewish community paid it on my behalf.

Jews are successful because the Jewish community invests time, money, care, and education in all its people.

Israel is a socialist country. It provides medical care, protection, community services for all its people. As a right, its people can get on with what is considered important “Study to show themselves approved by God.” And when their studies are finished, they can then do what they were ‘chosen’ for – serve humanity.

There is also the ancestral factor. As with the rich internationally, if you come from money, you tend to make money. While 80% of the Jews who arrived in America in the 19th century were poor, they did bring outstanding skills. Those from other nations did not have the skills that the Jews had.

When people die and they leave their children money, those children automatically have a better standard of living and more to give their children. This cycle has been continuing for about a century.

Jews put a lot of emphasis on education

What Percentage of Jews are Poor?

What Percentage of Jews are Poor?

In Israel, about 12.5% of Jews are living in poverty. In New York, about one third of Jews are living in poverty. That said, 25% of Jews are rich – by any standard. This is despite being only 2% of the population.

Can it be that in the dark recesses of the human psyche we are so screwed up by the Jewish people’s intellect, talent, wealth and resilience that the poison of envy begins to dominate?

What Do Jews Believe?

Jews are encouraged from day one to study and provide service to the community so that God will be pleased with them.

According to the Jewish religion, God chose the Jews in order to serve humanity. Consequently, Jews are encouraged from very young to become doctors, scientists, etc.

Jews encourage Tzedakah – charitable giving. Jews also believe in Mitsvah which is the carrying out of all the rules laid out for them by Torah. Jews are not taught about life after death, so it is not part of their religion. Many Jews also do not believe in a God, but that does not mean that they do not believe in doing good. The entire purpose of being a Jew is to service humanity and to do no evil.

As with all religions, Jews have their own terminology. If you read through the terminology, you will have a fair idea of what Jews believe.

That the Jewish home is a home in the truest sense is a fact which no one will dispute. The family is knitted together by the strongest affections; its members show each other every due respect; and reverence for the elders is an inviolate law of the

What's the Diffference between a Zionist and a Jew?

A Zionist is someone who believes in the State of Israel. They are usually Jewish, but they don’t necessarily need to be. A Jew is someone who was born to a Jewish mother or someone who converted to become Jewish. In the USA, most Jews are not Zionists. They do not believe that being a Jew is a nationality. They believe Judaism is a religion. In Israel, about three quarters of the seats in the Knesset represent Zionists.

Jews are Just as Good or Bad as Any Other Religion or Group.

Jews are no better or worse than any other nation, religion, or community. They tend to be successful because they are taught from very young to study, to think, and to do their best. In addition, they have the support of a very active community if they are struggling. In addition, it tends to be individuals who are bad, and while these individuals may join up with really bad groups, there isn't a single race or nation that is universally evil.

Hi Tessa, fascinating look at Jewish history of why people don't like them. I for one don't get it. its so stupid isn't it? there are so many religions and nationalities in the world who are evil, yet as far as I can see Jewish people have never ever started a war!

As a Christian, I was always taught those of Jewish faith were the "chosen people". It was not until I went to college and my new Jewish friend taught me all the jokes and the negative sayings. Great article.

Neat hub. More people who have mixed backgrounds (religious, racial or whatever) should speak out because its so much easier to believe a more balanced perspective from them - as opposed to a lecture on 'how we should act' from whatever kind of 'professional'.

I don't know if you have read this, but I thought you might find it interesting if you haven't. It was written by a Rabbi of Kabbalah to Catholic Priests in an attempt to set the record straight about Jews role in Christianity - and when/where/how/why the hate for Jews (by Christians) actually started. Its long-winded as a lot of this stuff is - I didn't even make it through all the way. But I got that far. :)

I have an additional theory on another reason why Jews are so often successful: They are taught from birth that they are 'chosen by God'. That has got to be a more empowering perspective to grow up in - as opposed to people who are taught that they are born into sin and need to be 'saved'. Life starts from an uplifting perspective instead of an 'unworthy' one.

Its a principle of the Law of Attraction: like attracts like, which essentially means that we 'attract' stuff into our lives that supports our 'beliefs'. Trump would be another good example of that. While *I* would not have voted for him and can't begin to imagine how others could; that man has the MOST confidence and 'belief in himself' than anyone I've ever known (even from a distance, ha!). Its not that hard to see why people are attracted to his charisma.

People who 'believe in themselves' and have more confidence about their their place in the world - naturally get a momentum going in their lives to accomplish their dreams easier (for the most part, there are always acceptions, of course - but, there are reasons for those, too. :)

As a Jew I always wonder this myself - we make up about 0.2% of the total world population, a mere drop, but no group of people has been hated over the ages more than us.

Also, I know that many people (like the above commenter) think that Jews believe that they are the chosen people or 'chosen by God', but that simply isn't true. It is actually the opposite - the Jews chose God, they chose to live according to his commandments, after others who were asked to do so before them refused the Jews took this upon themselves. In the bible it says "Am Segula" in Hebrew, which was translated to 'chosen people' and therefore many people believe that the Jews consider themselves chosen.

Well sheesh, that's an even better life-perspective to start from, LoL! Most evangelical Christian homes are not taught that; and Hollywood portrays it wrong, too (most of the time - I've never seen it a different way). That probably isn't helping. Thanks for clarifying. :)

And that isn't the only thing in the bible that was translated incorrectly to English....makes you wonder whether everything you know is true, doesn't it? :)

Actually, I used to be a diehard evangelical - and much to the disappointment of my beloved Christian mother, I no longer believe those belief-lies to the point that I wrote my own 23k spotlight hub about it. That's how I found the link I left in my first comment, ha!

A lot of Christians are beginning to see that things are afoot; and they're starting to alter their beliefs. But, altering such embedded beliefs rooted in 'eternal fear' among so many people is going to take at least a couple more decades. Its a YUGE tanker and it doesn't turn fast - but it is turning. :)

A very good hub it is, too. Took a lot of work doing that. Well done, Misfit Chick. :)

Thank you. As you can imagine, it doesn't get very many kudos and it was damn hard work over decades. It always feels like I've been given a gold star from my teacher on the rare ocassions I get a compliment. :)

This is a great article filled with so much information. I never thought that Google would come up with so many articles saying that Jews are evil. I'm glad you have responded to the question through this article.

Anti Semitism is a sign of mental illness and/or a woeful lack of even basic ethics.

It is a litmus test revealing the poor state of the mind.

Anti Semitism once referred to hatred of all Semitic or middle eastern people. Semitic peoples are ethnographically middle eastern and not solely jewish. However it has now become a reference to Jewish people only. Literally speaking a middle eastern anti Semite hates themselves too!!
