Are Near Death Experiences Real?
Do we have souls?
Are near death experiences real? The stories that are told by the media may simply be ways to persuade non-believers into accepting religious beliefs in their life. It may be a way to earn money off the expense of Christians and other believers in a higher power. Or the stories may be the subconscious, deep down fears and/or desires that create a last moment dream, or lucid dreams.
Near death experiences are usually told in great detail and can be remembered by the person for the rest of their life. Lucid dreams occur when someone is dreaming. The subconscious takes over but the individual remains conscious and can control everything that occurs, as long as the desired effects are within the person's imagination. Could it simply be lucid dreaming because the person knows they are about to die?
Experience of Hell
This man was a violent criminal who knew only abuse and pain growing up as a child. His father was very abusive. Ronald Raegan began indulging in criminal activity as a young teenager. He got in a fight and ended up being cut in his main arteries. He died, went to Hell, and came back to tell his story.
Do we have spirits?
A lot of people believe all human beings have spirits. Paranormal activity focuses on ghosts, which are the spirits of dead people who have yet to move on to the afterlife. Some people have actually caught entities on camera, which is debunked as a hoax or flaws in recording by most. But if you take a closer look into the matter, you may be surprised by what you discover.
Have you ever heard of astral projection? Astral projection is the interpretation of an out of body experience (obe), the astral body separate from one's physical body. The astral body leaves the physical body to travel in the astral plane. This technique has worked for many people. If people can learn this technique and move through dimensions, then why would the thought of near death experiences be too much for people to believe in.
Extreme stress during REM state
Not everything can be explained by scientific analysis but it also doesn't mean that it falls as a spiritual experience. The brain is the most powerful and most important organ in the human body. Here are some suggestions that psychologists have made that may explain why near death experiences seem so vivid. Whether this explains it as a spiritual experience or an overactive brain is for you to decide.
Psychologists have suggested that due to extreme stress caused to an individual during a life threatening situation may trigger brain states similar to REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. REM sleep is the most common stage of sleep when lucid dreaming occurs, when someone dreams but is still conscious. According to stories by those who have had near death experiences, the information they give is similar to dreaming while awake. Physical and psychological stress of a life threatening situation may be heavily stimulating to the Vagus nerve, which could produce a state in which the person is dreaming but completely awake.
Near death experience effect on the brain
Those who have nde's are subjected to increased left temporal lobe activity. Changes in one's personality and their outlook on life is common in these individuals. Diminished tolerance for alcohol, drugs, and light are common as well as feeling like they are using their entire brain instead of partial. After near death experiences, the person may suffer psychological problems in the wake of such a powerful experience.
