Keeping Your Sanity While Holding on to Your Faith
A wise man fears the Lord and shuns evil, but a fool is hotheaded and reckless. - Proverbs 14:16
I must state first and foremost, the purpose of this article is to defend the faith against those who insult people with faith as being nuts. It is in no way an attempt to insult those who choose not to believe.
Peace and Sanity
People who believe in God are not nuts. Far from it. Having faith brings you peace and sanity in a world gone mad. Why is it so hard for some people to comprehend that God created them? What is it that prevents some people from accepting God's love? God's reasoning and logic are not on the same level with ours. We cannot begin to fathom the higher level that God works from for he created us. We didn't create him. He is magnificent. He is all knowing. He is powerful. He is Holy. He made every cell in our bodies. There is nothing he cannot do and there is noone he can't save.
And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Matthew 10:30
God As Creator
As you look at the moon's soft glow and its perfect shape, do you honestly think it just landed there by accident with such precision? When you look at the beauty of a sunset, can you not see the beauty of God's love shining through the rays as it illuminates the sky with holiness, grace and beauty? For those who believe in God, they are in awe of God's creations. They respect what God made and they honor him. For those who don't, it's just another day.
They shall fear thee as long as the sun and moon endure, throughout all generations. - Psalm 72:5
The Gift of Free Will
People who believe in God are just as sane and intelligent as everybody else. They aren't forced into submission. They aren't led by the nose. They made a choice to believe and they are led by the Holy Spirit. A spirit of love. A spirit of compassion. A spirit that is weaved intricately with other spirits around them for a greater purpose. People who believe know instinctively when two or more are gathered in his presence, and that Jesus is there. The presence of Jesus' love is powerful when times are good and soothing when times are bad.
For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them. - Matthew 18:20
For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. - Romans 8:14
Surrender or Fight
When you surrender your life to God, you are driven by your love for God, and not by your love for self. When you don't believe in God, what exactly is driving you? For we all believe in something whether we choose to or not. When you put your faith in God, you surrender and you put down the the thoughts of this world and you pick up the thoughts guided by the Holy Spirit. A life without God is very much driven by the mind and the flesh, and you surrender nothing to God, and thus in effect you're drowning out the Holy Spirit's presence and message.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness. - 2 Timothy 3:16
The Tale of Two Houses
The difference between those who believe in God and those who don't is like having two big houses side by side. One neighbor's house is filled with strife, lots of pounding fists, constant bickering, quarrel and discord. They are restless, and always looking to argue a point and they want nothing to do with God. The other neighbor's house is built on the foundation of God's love and their home is filled with peace, love, devotion and a fear of God. And I will stress, that a Christian can say he or she loves God with their lips, but their heart is far from God. The contrast between the two houses boils down to respect for God. You either respect God and live a life that honors and glorifies him or you disrespect God and believe anyone who believes in him has to be nuts. Take your pick, but whether you like it or not, you're in one house or the other. You can't be in both houses at the same time because you either believe God created you or you believe that you mysteriously came to earth by chance.
He who fears the Lord has a secure fortress, and for his children it will be a refuge. The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, turning a man from the snares of death. - Proverbs 14:26-27
One day you may open your heart to God and invite him into your life and I hope that day is soon. God's love will transform your heart from the inside out so that you can feel his presence and his grace. In order for you to see him though, you have to first get out of your own way. You have to learn to suspend judgment long enough so that you can see his spirit working all around you. If you keep bickering and arguing, how will he ever get a chance to demonstrate his love for you? Sometimes, it's necessary to hit the pause button in life, if you ever want to change for the better. Forget about yourself for just one second, and think about giving God the glory and the honor that he so richly deserves as our Father who art in heaven. Amen.
Give glory to the LORD your God
before he brings the darkness,
before your feet stumble
on the darkening hills.
You hope for light,
but he will turn it to utter darkness
and change it to deep gloom. - Jeremiah 13:16
For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God. - Ephesians 2:8
