Are There Any Godly Nations in the World?

Updated on July 23, 2010

God's Definition of Godly

There is a question on Hubpages about whether there are any Christian nations in the world. I would have to say "no."

Many of the laws of the United States and other countries are based on Christian-Judean beliefs. The writers of the Constitution, whether Christians or not and whether they were separationists or not, framed the constitution on Christian beliefs. However, this does not make a nation a "Christian nation." What makes a nation, or people Christians is believing and loving Christ. This love will cause us to obey His commandments. Remember the rich young ruler? He obeyed the 10 commandments, but one thing he lacked—he did not love God more than position, power, and money. Love of these over God is idolatry and this is what will bring a nation down.

  1. Jn 14:15 If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

  2. Jn 14:21 He who has My commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves Me

  3. 1 Jn 2:3 And by this we know that we have come to know Him, if we keep His commandments

  4. 1 Jn 5:2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome.

  5. 2 Jn 6 And this is love, that we walk according to His commandments. This is the commandment, just as you have heard from the beginning, that you should walk in it.

  6. Rev 12:17 who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus.

  7. Rev 14:12 Here is the perseverance of the saints who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus

This has been true throughout history. For instance, Israel, in the Old Testament, was God's chosen nation. Israel lost that distinction by their continued rebellion/idolatry against God. Today, the nations that God blesses will be the nations that adhere to Christian principles most closely. Just like when natural laws are violated and consequences ensue, when moral laws are violated, consequences will also ensue.

Israel, time and time again, rebelled against God. God would be patient with them for long periods of time, but eventually would bring judgment against them for their idolatry.

Over and over God sent prophets to warn Israel of what would happen to them if they continued their disobedience: “And if ye will not for all this hearken unto me, but walk contrary unto me; Then I will walk contrary unto you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins” (Leviticus 26:27-28)

So, it shall be with any nation that ignores God. As Christians we need to pray for this nation, our leaders, and the world.

"I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and givings of thanks, be made for all men: for kings and all who are in high places; that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and reverence. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior; who desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth." 1 Timothy 2:1-4.

Until each nation, politician, leader, businessman, lawyer, etc. takes up the cross that is the Golden Rule, we will continue to have same-old same-old. Thanks!

Ann Lee: You are really Nit-picking here. Since Christianity began with those who decided to accept the teachings of Christ Jesus, it began with Jews, and Non-Jews or Gentiles, even Pagans. Christianity is and always has been a religious belief for the masses.

Whether one calls themselves Catholic, Baptist, Anglican, etc. all are based upon Christianity and Christian principles. Therefore your question becomes moot.

Of course there is no such thing as an "All Christian Nation" as every nation in the world is comprised of many different beliefs, religions, peoples, etc.

      Brother Dave.

I have said recently how sad it is that we are a Christian Nation no more. I fear for the future of my children and the future of the country in which we live. I hope and pray for a revival in America so that my children will enjoy the freedoms that their father and grandfathers fought and sacrificed so much to defend.

Very nice. Thank you for your thoughts.
