Are we Anxious??? The End-times
It is wet and stormy here in Iowa today. It has been off and on and we have had some terrible storms. Nothing like some other parts of the states, and I do say prayers for those that were hit so horribly. I listen to people talking about the storms, my family included, and I marvel at the number of people that are grabbing at anything that happens and calling it God's vengeance. In the wake of the latest "rapture" warning, one that left so many people picking up pieces of their lives, the world seems anxious to ring in the end-times and see the rapture come.
I was raised very religiously. I scholared in biblical numbers and colors and spent a lot of my child-hood and adult years studying and teaching the spiritual meanings of the Gospel. When the "rapture" was promised last week, I did NOT give away all of my worldly goods. I did not hug my loved ones and wish them good travels to the other side. Had it happened, well then I would hope I was ready to be received into Heaven. The only thing I did differently was to remember that the bible said "No One Knows but my Father in Heaven" and went about my day. Again, I sat amazed at the people that were "preparing" for the End.
Now, with tornadoes sweeping across the Mid-West, death tolls high from their destruction, people are still seemingly set on the storms being caused by God and his end-times. Though I am not adverse to the thought that the weather is worsening or that the Tsunami's and tornadoes seem to be more frequent, I think that we might want to turn our focus towards something We Do Know and issues we Can repair... at least to a point. "We" have sent every type of pollutant into our atmosphere that a man could imagine, including Nuclear radiation. Wars in the Middle East have sent scores of burning oil fumes in to the air. "We" have desecrated every spot we have touched with man's hands and still... we insist it is God.
The destruction we have done to this planet has left it in a state that, try as we might, may never be right again. Some of the contaminantes we have allowed to soak in to our earth and oceans can not ever be removed. The damages from it all, I am certain, we have not even begun to see manifest yet. But true to true, we have done a lot of "not so good" things to this planet we call home. Instead of sitting back, waiting for the "rapture", which will happen when God decides it should happen, we might want to focus more or the answers to "how can we fix this planet" or putting our brains together and doing what we can to try and save this planet. Recycling, cleaning up our rivers and oceans as well as the land, conserving energies and taking responsibility for our mistakes would be a nice start. Make company's that harm the environment pay so dearly that they make sure they are staying within the safe guidelines set for them.
Is God doing all fo the destruction we are seeing? Is this his vengenance being loosed on the earth? Is this the start of the end??? I don't think God is hand-picking places like Joplin, Mo and killing 89 people. I don't think he was angry at Japan and decided to send a Tsunami to them and devistate their country. Yes, I do think these are all signs of what is still to come. I also think that at the rate we are going, God isn't going to have to do Anything to end it all. We seem to be doing a great job... all by our selves.
