Are you ready to give to get

Updated on September 17, 2012

Follow His lead

“The purpose of tithing is to teach you to always put God first in your lives.” Deuteronomy 14:23 (The Living Bible)

Jesus says, “Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be” (Matthew 6:21 New Living Translation).

Do you want to prosper in these tough times? Then learn to give to get.

“Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops. Then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10 (New International Version)

Wait a minute you may say. I am on a fixed income, or I do not make that much money. Then why not offer Jehovah your time. It could be one morning a week being a reading buddy at school ( with all the cutbacks the governments are having I am sure the schools are overloaded and need the help), why don’t you volunteer to help a newcomer to your country learn a new language and learn to assimilate to your culture. Why not visit lonely seniors in retirement homes and listen to them Most of them lived in some very interesting times and it might be an encouragement for you, if you are going through difficult times. The list is endless.

“When God’s people are in need, be ready to help them. Always be eager to practice hospitality.” Romans 12:13 (New Living Translation, second edition)

God might want you to extend his love by offering to baby-sit for the single parent down the street. He might want you to prepare a hearty meal for that lonely old man who lost his wife-- and to sit and visit with him while he eats. Who knows, he might even want you to reach out and touch the life of a total stranger in some way you can't imagine right now. Are you willing to set aside your own comfort to touch someone else with Gods love?

"Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." Galatians 6:9

If however you are going to give of your wages, please do research into the organization you want to help. Most of the big ones are a waste of money. I do not mean to sound like a jerk, but before you beg money from me to help some impoverished family, FIRST make them do proper family planning. Quit popping out children you cannot take care of them come begging me for money to take care of them. Do not come with a sob story how you need money for cancer when the COEs make more money in a year than I will make in a lifetime.

Try to find a local organization like say a group that cares for hiking trails or a local ESL group that teaches new immigrants English. Do not begrudgingly give because you believe you have to. Give because you want to. And, if you give locally, you can see the end results. As you do these things I believe Jehovah will richly bless you for your commitment to Him and to our society as well.

When I have learnt to love God better than my earthly dearest; I shall love my earthly dearest better than I do now.—C.S. Lewis

One thing that will help you prepare to share: Write down the major life lessons you’ve learned to share with others so you can be a mentor while sharing. We should be grateful that David, Solomon and others did this because it gave us the books of Proverbs and Ecclesiastes, which are filled with practical lessons on living. Imagine how much needless frustration could be avoided if we learn from each other’s life lessons.

Prayer: Thank you Jehovah Jireh (the lord our provided) for all the wonderful gifts You have so freely blessed me with. Now our Giver I would like to ask of You to show me where I can follow Your lead and offer to share with others. To share both my time and finances with those who so desperately need it. In the name of the one who gave His treasured life for me , Jesus Christ I pray . Amen.

May the sunshine of Jesus’ sweet love bless you today and every day.

      Hi blossom.

While working a full time job when attending school at the same time there was no money left over for so much as a candy bar. I volunteered three times a week at a hospital. Do you believe my love offering of time was less valuable to God than money. Today many people just have no money so they can give thier time which when done with love is just as valuable. Would you suggest a poor family give their grocery money to the church instead of buying food for thier children?

I agree with you.We are saved by grace alone. When we develope a relationship with Christ there will be a burning desire to serve Him from our love towards Him.

      God bless you.

Even if we have only a little, we should still tithe. However, I don't think we should just give so that we can get something back for ourselves, we should give because we love God and we want to thank Him for His caring love.
