Armor of God
Armor of God
Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes
Paul's writing to the church in Ephesians Eph: 6:12-17(Amplified Bible)
11Put on God's whole armor [the armor of a heavy-armed soldier which God supplies], that you may be able successfully to stand up against [all] the strategies and the deceits of the devil.
12For we are not wrestling with flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the despotisms, against the powers, against [the master spirits who are] the world rulers of this present darkness, against the spirit forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) sphere.
13Therefore put on God's complete armor, that you may be able to resist and stand your ground on the evil day [of danger], and, having done all [the crisis demands], to stand [firmly in your place].
14Stand therefore [hold your ground], having tightened the belt of truth around your loins and having put on the breastplate of integrity and of moral rectitude and right standing with God,
15And having shod your feet in preparation [to face the enemy with the firm-footed stability, the promptness, and the readiness produced by the good news] of the Gospel of peace.
16Lift up over all the [covering] shield of saving faith, upon which you can quench all the flaming missiles of the wicked [one].
17And take the helmet of salvation and the sword that the Spirit wields, which is the Word of God.
Wearing the Armor of God
The helment of Salvation refers to protection of our thoughts and mind. Once we receive salvation it is crucial for the believer to guard his/her thoughts. Protecting the mind with the helment of salvation means guarding one's thoughts and being cautious about what is read, thought about, studied so that one can avoid deception.
Wearing the helment of salvation is the protection needed to guard our thoughts and mind. Prayer and Bible study are important elements in the helment of Salvation. Through prayer we increase our communication with God and through Bible study we improve our understanding of God's word. The key to the helment of Salvation is the fact that the believer is not without hope!
Philipians 4:8 says:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Breastplate of Righteousness covers our chest and protects our heart. We are worthy to stand before God because of Jesus. Often times our heart harbours feelings of resentment, unforegivness and hate. Forgiveness is important in the Christian walk.
I Thessolonians 5:8 therefore, let us be sober and put on the breastplate (corslet) of faith and love and for a helmet the hope of salvation.
Belt of Truth keeps it all together! It keeps us secure in Christ and the rest of our armor effective. Truth is sincerity of our heart and pureness of motives.
2 Timothy 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Psalm 91:4 His truth shall be your sheild and buckler.
Shield of faith allows the believer to deflect the fiery darts that come our way. The shield is part of the armor that moves freely. It can shield any part of the overal armor. Faith is our confidence in things hoped for and not presently seen.
Hebrews 11:1 Faith gives substance to our hope and makes us certain of realities we do not see.
Sword of the Spirit is a very useful tool in daily living. Knowing the word of God is crucial for the believer. When doubt, creeps in and the challenges of life attempt one to be overwhelmed speaking the word of God is the best defense a believer has. To be able to say: "It is written that No weapon formed against me shall prosper nor any plague come near my dwelling is empowering. (Psalm 91)
I John 2:14 I have written unto you, fathers, because ye have known him that is from the beginning. I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one.
Shoes of Peace are to cover the believer's feet. Peace is reflected in our countanence. When we enter in bringing peace we are welcoming, non condemning and loving.
