The Sun in You - Beyond the Sun Sign
Usually an astrologer's interpretation of the Sun is in relation to it's Sun Sign or the Constellation it is in. The term Sun Sign is common and one you are all familiar with. You relate the Sun to being the central theme to your personality - I am a Gemini, I am an Aries, I am a Virgo. And lots of you are quite content to fit a mold. But do you really understand the full concept of the Sun within you? A few major questions you will be asking yourself is "Does the Sun shine through me and do I take on the full traits of the Sun in my life?"
Symbology
The pictogram of the Sun is symbolic, as are all astrological symbols. The outer circle stands for the infinity of creation, the never ending cycle of life. A circle also represents a spiritual sense of wholeness. The center point stands for the source of that creation. All things manifested from this point and all things will be reabsorbed back into that point at the end of time. Like an in breath and out breath, you can see the beginning and end of creation stemming from this one central dot.
Because the Sun contains the element of all that is creation, you can be excused for thinking that it is only the Sun that you need take notice of in your chart. Perhaps this is the reason Sun Signs are given so much press and other heavenly bodies get ziltch. The Moon and all planets that influence you are a reflection of the Sun. Each planet is specialized in a particular function or influence and there is nothing found in those planets that is not in the Sun. Remember the circle is an emanation of that central dot.
If you were enlightened you could say the Sun shines through you and you have become the embodiment of all the forces of life. Primarily astrology is a language to communicate the influences of planetary forces in your life. The Sun is the king of our solar system and all planets could be seen as an emanation of the Sun . The Sun as a divine source is mentioned in many esoteric texts including Christian. Ra is the solar God of Egypt, Surya is the deity of the Sun in the Hindu tradition, and the Christian tradition sees the Sun not as a god, but the light of God Himself, or can I say itself to be consistent with my own understanding of creation. Interestingly though the Sun is a yang principle so there is the relation to the masculine that I can't avoid for the purposes of esoteric correctness!
Take the whole pie, not just a piece
So why not leave astrology to just the Sun Sign? The human condition is a fallen one. We no longer enjoy the blissful state of being One with a divine source. Seems the more we questioned ourselves, the more we fell from the grace of that divinity. We ate from the tree of knowledge. Our pure state kept falling to a point, it seems, where we fell further and further away from the core of the Sun and the core of our own divine selves. We are wearing the blueprints of all the influences of the solar system in what appears a more gross state. Think of primordial chaos as coming after the purity of that dot and we are still in a compost like soup trying to clean up our act so we can get back to being the pure dot again. We are looking at spiritual Alchemy here.
It's misleading to say the other planets are a fallen emanation of the Sun, but isn't everything fallen? Depends on your standpoint. I'll leave that up to you as how you decipher creation, The Moon and planets have their own individual influences on us. Within the series I'll be passing information to you on these astral influences or forces and you will be able to see your own chart to find where those planets are in your chart.
Back to the Sun in you. Because we live in a world of polarities all influences have a positive and negative influence. The Sun is no different. It has a high state and a fallen state as do the other planets.
If you are hooking into the positive traits these are the qualities and features you will notice:
-A sense of dignity, have a noble nature and sense of honor
-Self respect, self esteem, self confidence, self trust
-Purpose, ambition, and determination
-Authority, leadership and organization skills
-Direct, sincere, truthful
-Hope and Joy and a clear sense of unconditional love.
The negative traits or pitfalls:
-Have a high opinion of oneself. Pride
-Selfishness
-Arrogance
-A preoccupation with being number one.
-Dictatorial and wanting control of everything
-Easily fired into anger.
Either way you look at these Sun traits, they show a fullness of Sun energies good and bad - that's the polarity we live in.
There is a third state which could be seen as a syndrome and this is an emptiness of Sun energy. These traits are commonly seen as:
-Unsure of oneself
-Lots of self doubt
-Whatever is done, it's done wrong.
-Easily down or depressed
-Appear humble but it's a forced humility based on self-denigration.
-Makes excuses for oneself: "Hope I'm not disturbing you or intruding."
-Not feeling one has a place in the universe.
Can you relate to these traits? What can you see in yourself? I'm sure you know people who have an emptiness of Sun.
In
order to get back to the dot, self awareness is needed. We have to see
and know where we have fallen so we can restructure ourselves. Remember
from part one in this series, astrology is a language for our psyche, a
tool to help know and understand our personality traits. Self awareness
is key in a path of transformation. We first must know what to
transform and we also need to see what parts of us are laying idle or
latent within us.
We have an innate wanting to become whole again. We yearn for it, we kill for it, we love for it, we do all sorts of crazy things to get back to that divine dot. Putting transformation aside, lets face it not everyone is going to go there - the road less traveled may not be your thing this time around; but to get what you want in life it helps to be using your Sun force. You want to shine and be the best you can be. It's what blows your hair back, makes you feel good, makes you smile and attracts people to smile at you.

Thanks for this article, it goes a long to show that there are people who think the way i do.
Interesting hub. I must say though the comic made me giggle on its evilness :)
The pictograms are fantastic. I am one of your followers now...btw, one vote up.
I am a true Gemini. I have qualities on both sides. I try really hard to get over the side that is impeding my success. interesting read! :-)
Good hubs, by the way. ;)You have an interesting take on things. I will enjoy reading more.
I see this a little differently. It is not we that have fallen, but it is that the totality itself is out of balance.
We are it's problems, so to speak and through us it resolves those problems, one at a time. What ever we do is toward resolution of a problem. You can do nothing which is not the work of god.
Creativity can only exist as a reaction to conflict. No conflict, no need for creativity. In a perfected state no creativity would exist, because no conflict would exist.
When we die, we do not go back to nature or the totality, we never left it.
No perfect god would create us because no perfect god would need to. Therefore we know there is no perfect god waiting for us.
The totality is striving for perfection though it can not reach it. We are striving for perfection, but the goal is too great to reach.
And if we reached that goal? We would find that we were not created by a perfect god state, but in fact, we would have helped create god.
Now, I want you all to understand I am being metaphorical here.
Very nice write Jewels!
Oh this is very interesting hub. Thankd for sharing!
Well you certainly make us all think about our lives Jewels. Some traits I see in me I dont like, but do know these can change in phases we go through, I gather that some of this is the different quarters of the planets movements, and some by attitude to things we go through ie: smile and the world smiles with you, which in turn makes everyone feel better. Oh I hope i am making sense. Anyway, Thank You please keep sending to me
Jewels, this is a very interesting hub and very well-written. I have over the last several years come to a point on my spiritual journey where much of what you wrote about here is within my thoughts and spirit. Thank you so much for this wonderful hub. I truly enjoyed it and will be following you.
Finally! I got a chance to drop in and visit. What a great hub. I love your work, because it always makes me think. Which is a good thing in my case. I am hoping to keep reading this week and keep in touch with you my friend. :)
Jewels: What you say about living in a world of polarities is so true, and just reading through your lists of Positive and Negative traits, and the syndrome aspects as well, I can apply some from each category to myself. Well done!
Let's get this right. It's "Trekker," not "Trekkie." A Trekkie is an anti-social nerd who wears plastic Vulcan ears to a Star Trek convention. On the other hand, a Trekker is one who is a fan of the TV shows and movies, and likes to engage in highly intellectual discourse concerning all things scientific. Got it? :)
Well done, nice article. This made me think of a Star Trek episode where the Enterprise crew lands on a planet run by the Romans who are trying to kill of the followers of the Sun. The crew later learns that the followers are actually following the "Son" and NOT the "Sun."
Your work here is practical and timeless. Always a pleasure to read.
Glad I found you on here. You are such an interesting and knowledgeble woman!
Ahh, this needs a total bump! Thanks for posting, jewels. I try to keep up with everyone--but my e-mail is just piling up. Glad I caught it on Universal Salon.
You're SHINING here, Jewels-- thank you!
We're certainly "the stuff of stars" as we were all ultimately born of them and all of the resulting energy patterns and flows. I am inclined to simplify my sense of cosmic connectivity a bit more-- but a fascinating read!
So much information here and your part one. I have studied Astrology a little bit. I have to say mainly through W.D. Gann and his use in markets and others using time and space like he did. It has led me to delve deeper into it. the Sun signs are fascinating also. I need to go back and study through your work more deeply just wanted to commend your brilliant work at explaining a very difficult subject.
Good stuff, Jewels. I recall having a couple of full astrological charts done on me back in 1984. The first was one of those computerized jobs, full of generalizations, the second by a sister-in-law who was a practioner. Her predictions were far more accurate. But one thing she did say, "The determining factor is still what we choose to do." Despite propitious and negative periods, we still have free choice, and that is what determines our outcomes.
One thing my sister-in-law did predict: 1986 would bring big changes. It did. I undertook my first ten-day Vipassana Meditation course (the first of 14 over the next twelve years) and have been practicing ever since.
I don't know how I missed this one. Then again things come to us when they are supposed too. I can relate to those qualilities in your article. I think Jesus stated something similar to this when he said that the kingdom is within us. I had my planetary alignments once but they got lost and I really didn't know what they all meant either. I still don't understand some of it either. Thanks for the article.
I have been told that i have a moon-pluto conjunction at birth. What does that mean to you?
Of course everything is planetary, I think we are all affected by the positions of the stars at different times. I like this hub Jewels!
I have a 21 y.o. son named Julian, that I call Joules, comes out sounding like Jewels. Thanks have a great weekend!
I find the science of astrology to be fascinating and would love to learn more about it.
While I do not believe in horoscopes of any kind I strongly believe that the planets do influence personalities. I have never really study much, but just by observing and analyzing common characteristics, most of the time I could identify a person’s zodiacal sign.
Very good, I sensed it would be...
some people said that they confuse with astrology. But I think it easy to understand when we learn about it well.
Ever wonder about the correlation of Sun/Son? Funny innit? Is it like a son is the light of parents and they revolve around him. Oh well. Anyway, this is interesting stuff Majesty. Glad to know there are people like you out there employing this ancient knowledge.
This is such a loving insight into the craft. Thank you.
TEL US THE INFLUENCE OF PLANETS IN OUR LIFE
Jewels: Even with all my reading on these subjects throughout the years, I had not heard of this take on the sun; its pretty cool! I see several traits in myself between the first and the third sun charateristics.
Looking forward to reading more!
I must admit to possessing all of those traits once-upon-a-time...but that was then and this is now :) excellent hub, thought provoking and well written. I enjoyed your perspective!
This is pretty sun-sational information! Waiting to read more Jewels! :)
I like your perspective on this. I was thinking as I was reading it that the fallen idea kind of relates to energy and matter too. Light moves very fast, matter very slow, but I think (I could be wrong here...lol!) I think the two are the same basic 'stuff', both made of energy. So matter is kind of 'fallen' light. Sorta. I was thinking too how sometimes you really do see people who 'shine'--I mean it's like they have actual light beaming out of them. And then you meet the opposite too--people who seem kind of dull and dark, tapped out. I recognize myself in all these levels of Sun energy--positive, negative, absent. Cool hub, I'm looking forward to the rest of the series. :)
Jewels - part two was certainly worth waiting for. I'm loving your take on things and you explain and expand in such a way as to make me smile! Thanks. As for the human condition being on of "fallen"... I prefer forgetful. I see as contition and uur task (and we can use astrology to help us along the way) is to remember who we really are, to reconnect with that Divine spark within and we are so lucky to have an abundance of spiritual or religious traditions to choose from. Many blessings to all on the path of remembering.
