Astrology - Star Signs and Their Compatibility

Updated on August 14, 2013

Will They Last?

Just how compatible are we with our partners and loved ones? Can we find the answer to this question in the stars? Astrology can recognise characteristics, strengths, and weaknesses, by looking at our birth date, and from this basis is able to predict which signs are better suited to which others. The year of birth is also extremely important, as someone born under Taurus in the 1950s may have a totally different reading than someone born under the same sign 40 years later.

Taurus and Cancer

As an example let's look at the compatibility of Taurus and Cancer, but taking the star sign as a general rule; without birth dates.

Taurus is an Earth sign, while Cancer comes under Water; so you could say that mixing the two will produce mud! Both of these signs show affectionate tendencies and as a rule they should get along quite well and find themselves fairly compatible. We'll take each of them individually:

The Bull

The Taurus temperament is quite practical, purposeful and cautious; certainly not impulsive or careless. A Taurus will generally ponder questions carefully and take their time over decisions, but once the decision is made they can be unmovable in their persistence. This trait can be a blessing in certain circumstances, and a nightmare in others, as the Taurus can provide a determination that others lack, or they can turn obstinate and unrelenting, and drive everyone else crazy.

The Crab

Those born under Cancer are generally very emotional types, but their water element makes them very generous and caring, as well as intuitive. Just like the water of this sign they are adaptable and malleable, but also prefer to make up their own minds in general. Cancer are very sensitive and can be a calming influence when it is needed, while their main fault is maybe that they tend to follow their feelings rather than sound judgement. They have great empathy with others and very often know when they are needed before anyone approaches them for help, and while this is a great help to friends and family, it can be less helpful to the Cancer, as they will pick up negative emotions as well as positive.

Putting the two signs together will generally have great results; Taurus will be able to fulfil Cancer’s needs as they come under the fulfilment and friendship area of Cancer. Cancer can be volatile and Taurus can often provide the grounding they need, and this is another reason why this partnership should thrive, and last a long time. Taurus can be susceptible to unexpected mood swings, but the empathy of Cancer should be able to predict and deal with this. Their mutual compassion is a solid foundation to this great partnership.

Of course for an actual partnership to really look into their horoscope compatibility in detail, it will be necessary to take into account their dates of birth for an exact reading, but it is interesting to see how well the general aspects of the two signs align together. Generally speaking the 12 Zodiac signs are divided into masculine and feminine groups, with Taurus and Cancer leading the feminine signs alongside Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces, and the masculine signs including Aries, Leo, Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius. The feminine influence of our two focus groups is another indication of how well they understand each other and communicate.

Astrology is not an exact science, but is instead a study that takes much research and experience to dominate. There is not in fact any conclusive reason why astrology works; only many examples of how it really does. It is the study of correlations between phenomena in the skies and the behaviour of people on Earth, but no one really understands how or why this correlation exists.

Many people are quite happy to read their horoscope in their daily newspaper or magazine and are pleased when certain items ring true, but how many really stop to think how these predictions came about?

Even though no one really has any concrete evidence of just how astrology works, they definitely do have proof that it does, in many occasions. This is a truly fascinating subject and no doubt there are many out there who would enjoy seeing the results of a compatibility test between their two signs. This is of course not to say that you should split up immediately if told that your two signs are not compatible! Each couple is different and what is most important is the desire for the relationship to work, helped along by mutual understanding and patience.
