Praying in Your Most Holy Faith (Jude 20)

Updated on November 10, 2016

Divine Order

"But ye beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost" (Jude 20 KJV).

Praying in tongues is an aspect of prayer we use to speak exclusively to God. In the spirit we utter mysteries, but not to God, He understands what our spirits are saying. We also utilize this prayer in building ourselves up on our most holy faith, as we are praying in the Holy Ghost as Jude 20, instructs us. It is also an effective way to acquire order in our soul lives. We change the way we think through this mode of prayer. Or souls had been programmed by sin up until the day we receive Jesus Christ and our spirits are born anew. We still need to renew our soul through the process of transformation. Speaking in our prayer language make breakthroughs in the soul realm manifest and materialize and we can clearly see that conformity into the likeness of Jesus Christ is a must.

Romans 8:26-27, tells us, that the Spirit of God helps our frailties, weaknesses and infirmities, and that we do not know what we should pray for as we ought. But the Spirit makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered, or (spoken in articulate speech that can be understood). He that searches the hearts and knows what the mind of the Spirit is, knows what we are saying because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. The Spirit of God helps us through praying in tongues not to be repetitious. Repetition can be an infirmity when we ask the same things over and over again. We need spontaneity, and the release of what is going on inside, which only our spirits can see under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

The video posted at the end of this hub is by Glenn Arekion, it is called The Power of Praying in Tongues. The following points were taken from this teaching. I most certainly concur that there are most definitely mammoth benefits of praying in our supernatural prayer language.

  1. Tongues will bring treasures out of you. "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power.may be of God, and not of us" (2 Corinthians 4:7 - KJV). What would be the point of having treasures and you cannot tap into them. When you pray in your supernatural language you will tap into this treasure and make your life better.
  2. When you are speaking in your supernatural language, Scripture tells us that we are speaking directly and exclusively to God. No one can understand us but the Godhead, unless there is an interpretation. This is the premise for praying all kinds of prayer to speak exclusively to God. However, there are barriers that hinder the process. One being the mind wanting to understand everything that crosses it. Speaking in tongues is the spirit over the mind. Remember our spirits are fully redeemed and are in a relationship with God every second of the day and night. While our souls can drift off course. We can also be hindered by the presence of others we may be praying in front us and attempt rehearsing prayers of repetition. We can't truly trust our souls to pray through us unless the soul is influenced by our born again praying in tongues spirits led by the Holy Spirit. Our minds can be our greatest hindrance. Praying in tongues allows our born again spirits to take over prayer and bypass the understanding until the mind of the Spirit can be revealed. The Spirit prays the will of God.
  3. When we pray in our supernatural language we are strengthening our spirits with the might and power of God. We need the power and anointing of God to renew and change our minds and the world.
  4. When you are praying in your supernatural language, you are charging the atmosphere with the anointing of God, the presence of God, and the power of God. Praying in tongues is the development and maintenance of your partnership and communion with the Holy Spirit. We pray mysteries and plans hidden from the devil, which are hidden for the saints. Praying with the understanding broadcasts your prayers, others can hear and the devil and his demons can hear to hinder the things you pray about. Praying in the Spirit is communicating directly to God in a language only He can understand. The exclusivity of prayer is protected by and through the Holy Spirit. Prayer is supposed to be between God and you. Jesus advised that when you pray that you enter into your own closet, where you can be closest to God and shut the door; and God which sees in secret will reward you openly. Prayer in the spirit locks you in your relationship with God, and locks everything else out.

Father, let Your will be done, in and through this life of mine

We are actually praying in accordance with God’s will when we pray in the spirit. The reason that I say that praying in tongues is an effective way to acquire order in your mind; is because no matter what you are thinking, your spirit is fellowshipping with the Spirit of God. Then teaches your mind, the mind of God as you deposit the Word of God in your spirit. Your understanding may not be benefiting from this implementation so it may seem at that moment of prayer in the spirit, and in your heavenly language. However, afterwards God can show you, what your thought life looks like.

When we pray in our heavenly language what we are uttering in tongues is beyond our natural ability to understand, it is truly supernatural. We are not leaning to our own understanding, but, acknowledging God, so that He can direct our paths. God is the power source! Most of the time my mind does not want me to pray in tongues. The mind is a battleground which has to be brought under subjection to the oracles of God. Have you noticed after praying in tongues your mind wanting to know what you said? Or have you ever doubted that you were speaking in tongues?

See the light around the mind, that is symbolic of what praying in the Holy Ghost does for our holistic soul.

Our spirits operate on a higher realm than our souls

(Jude 20) The Apostle Jude is telling us that we can build our selves up on our most holy faith. We can build ourselves up on most holy faith directed towards a holy God. Isn’t that interesting, the terminology most holy faith, liken unto most holy place. We have faith and we have most holy faith.

Praying in the spirit is more than an exercise. In today’s society, there is much emphasis being placed on bodybuilding, exercise is a must, go to the gym, walk thirty minutes a day, etc. What about our spiritual movements? I can remember a time when one tarried and anticipated being filled with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, but that was as far as it went.

There is a higher level of relationship we enter with God when we pray in the Holy Ghost. I don’t know if you have ever heard the phrase, I am saved, I am sanctified, and I am filled with the Holy Ghost, or the phrase I got it. Okay that’s wonderful but, the Holy Spirit is not an it. He is a person, the third person of the trinity, and He is the power base for living. Moreover, praying in an unknown tongue is part of our spiritual life styles, and not an exercise. It is spiritual progression and movement towards holiness.

What are you saying, I don't understand?
What are you saying, I don't understand?

Transformation is happening!

The minds/intellects wants to be able to comprehend and assimilate every thought that crosses our minds in order to process our thoughts and file them accordingly. This is the function of the memory to organize our thoughts. It gives us a sense of control, so it seems over our thoughts, the control you yield to the Holy Spirit; when you pray and sing in the spirit; or in an unknown tongue.

We in turn must create a file, and call it my I don’t know and understand it file, and put those thoughts which we don’t have the information to support them into that file folder until the Holy Spirit and the Word of God gives us the answer, then we can transfer that new information and update our working file folders.

Have you ever had so many thoughts that you wish you could turn your mind off? Well you can, as you practice daily praying in tongues. I guarantee you will notice a noteworthy change in yourself, in word, in deed, thought and in every other way. I am not attempting to make this kind of prayer the utopia. It is only one of many ways to pray, but it has a place of validity in our lives. We are building ourselves up on a greater aspect of our faith. As seen in this verse there is a difference between faith and the most holy faith we need to seek God's holy face.

My spirit prays

"For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful" (1 Corinthians 14:14 KJV).

The Apostle Paul states that he would rather speak so many words in understanding, because it grants others the ability to understand as well. He also instructs us to pray in the spirit and pray in understanding too; and to sing in the spirit and sing with understanding also; we have two options.

It appears to me that at times I tend to become rather mechanical when praying with my understanding. I believe this is because my mind wants take lead to know or be able to interpret what is being said in the spirit. Only it doesn't work that way. Well, I say to my soul you can come along, but you are not going to be the boss! The Holy Spirit is in charge!

"The Spirit of man is the candle of the Lord, searching the inward parts of the belly" (Proverbs 20:27 KJV).

As your spirit fellowships with the Holy Spirit, it receives progressive revelation into the interaction and subconscious and conscious activity of your soul. Your spirit learns from the Holy Spirit and teaches your soul how to be renewed. The Holy Spirit relays to your spirit the intent of your prayer and your spirit then relays it to your soul, so that you not merely know and understand the mind of the Spirit, but that you may cooperate and be in agreement with the will of God. Your spirit communicates with your soul as the Holy Spirit communicates with your spirit. Your spirit is the candle of the Lord.

Amazing what the Word of God is during within our souls.

The mind is a battleground

It is through spiritual warfare that kingdoms are subdued and that the kingdoms of this world become the kingdoms of our God. Think of your soul as a kingdom that has subjects such as intellect, will, imagination, emotions, these are providences which must be subdued. It is through the Spirit that we are renewed and through the Spirit that we mortify our members which are upon the earth.

Our souls are currently undergoing renovation and we call this process transformation. We don’t want to get too comfortable with the current status of the soul, but to be diligently seeking renewal by the Word and by the Spirit of God. Praying in the Spirit is the way to order your soul so that it prospers and succeeds in all righteousness. Praying in the Spirit is a way we can be pragmatic and practical. We can test the validity of all concepts and ideas that come across or in our minds. Test every thought that surfaces by the Word and Spirit of God.

Some of our thoughts are there just to throw parties and invite every unsavory idea it can find. We must try the spirit by the Spirit and as we perceive the truth make the truth our practical reality in every day living. Take the words off the pages of the Bible so to speak, and put them into action. The Word of God is our script for living. Only we are not actors or actresses, we live our scripts in all truth. It is so important that we deposit the Word of God in our hearts and souls, so that just as the psalmist declared, thy words have I hidden in my heart that I might not sin against thee. We can make the same declaration and teach our minds, thus saith the Lord and bring our bodies under submission too.

We need the Word of God and our armor, it is not for show

Flesh is the fallen nature

The flesh is a world of iniquity all by it’s self and it has a mind of its own. The flesh has the mind of death. I can see clearly now why it is called the fallen nature. The only way it knows to go is downwards. I understand why the Apostle Paul admonishes us not to put confidence in the flesh, it would be a waste of confidence seeing that the flesh only knows the ways of death because that is the course it has always taken. Until the Word of God provides what is necessary for the flesh to shift under the Spirit of God.

I realize that we need our flesh to navigate and make contact with and in the world, and while we are in the world. However, we should be ever cognizant that the flesh is waiting redemption, whereas, the soul is undergoing redemption right now, but the spirit is fully redeemed and is sourcing from heavenly places in Christ Jesus. We must understand our triune self. If you give in to the flesh, it will drag you down, the flesh only knows the grave as its final resting place, because of sin. The spirit was supposed to be over the soul and the soul over the body. But, that role was reversed and the flesh used to call all the shots. It is at enmity, and is hostile against God, and it doesn’t mind relaying rebellion. Transformation is a process that we must individually take an active personal role in actualizing to make it our personal reality. Bringing our lives under total submission to God is our personal responsibility.

Through prayer in tongues, I have discovered that my mind is being cleansed and cleared of all the clutter. My thoughts are not as overwhelming as they used to be, because now I can see and am receiving the inner sight that I need to combat unrighteous thinking and thoughts that do not represent God.

Receive the Holy Ghost, with the evidence of speaking in tongues and build yourself up on your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Ghost.
Receive the Holy Ghost, with the evidence of speaking in tongues and build yourself up on your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Ghost.

Receive ye the Holy Ghost

What is really interesting is that we need our flesh, but we don’t need it in any old state. In order to pray in the spirit, we need our mouths and the ability to articulate and speak. We need the breath of life that flows through us and flesh is the vehicle by which we make physical contact in and through the world. We must subdue the flesh and place it under submission for the length of time that we need to pray in order to live a spiritually charged life. The active role and challenge for my faith is to mortify the flesh every chance I get.

"For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh, for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God, to the pulling down of strongholds" (2 Corinthians 10:3-5).

What are some weapons of our warfare? Prayer in the spirit is a powerful weapon. Singing in the spirit is another potent weapon, it is directional towards God, and you are praising God with your spirit. The Word of God, faith in God, truth, righteousness and love are some other weapons we use in our continual life of warfare. Jesus used the Word period when He was in conflict with the enemy, He said, IT IS WRITTEN, end of dialogue.

Fear can’t rear its ugly head when faith is operative, and which lie can stand against the truth? Righteousness exalts us because Jesus purchased it for us, so that He could outshine all evil. Love is God, who can penetrate that barrier and who can separate us from the love that He is?

I encourage you to make it your endeavor to pray in the spirit (in tongues) as well as with your understanding. Implement it and practically apply it and I guarantee you will never be the same. My prayer is that you glean information and that you would pick up after a reaper in your search for relevant pragmatic information.

I sowed prayer in the spirit and I reaped Rhema. I pray that you will be blessed and that you continue to be the blessing God ordained you to be in Christ Jesus. If you haven’t yet received the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues, ask Him to fill you to overflowing. Desire earnestly the best gifts and God will show you a more excellent way.
