Because He Lives !!!
I Want To Know Him
I had a conversation recently with a Minister of the Gospel. We talked for quite some time about the Lord, and all of His goodness. We spoke of His will and His ways. And as we got further into our conversation, the minister began to tell me of others he had known, who were in various ways, coming short of the glory of God. He began to speak on the shortcomings of other Christians, and how so many were missing the mark.
As I listened, I began to hear a voice of judgment and condemnation, rather than a voice of forgiveness, compassion, and love.
He would speak of others, and back up or supposedly solidify his argument with scripture. I could not help but notice, as was his intent, that he was very well versed in scripture. Yet, it did not elude me, that in his heart, he did not truly know Christ.
Then, I began to ponder, on how many people there are who engage faithfully in weekly church attendance and zealously perform their religious duties, who have diligently studied the word of God, and have rehearsed scripture to memory, but have not had a personal encounter with God.
I remembered someone saying, " Because you're in the garage, doesn't mean you're a car."
Boasting About What ?
Every true believer knows, without a doubt, that God is Supreme. God is omniscient, omni-present, and omnipotent.
Yet, what a struggle it is for God to be God, when far too many of us are sitting on His throne.
Paul, who had his own personal encounter with Christ, knew that he had reason to boast or brag. Paul said, I was circumcised on the eighth day, I am a Hebrew of Hebrews, I am of the tribe of Benjamin, I am of the people of Israel, I am a Pharisee, I had a zeal for persecuting the church, and according to the law, I was blameless.
Philipians 3: 7-10,
But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ. And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith. That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.
More Of Our Own Righteousness
Far too many Christians cling to a righteousness of themselves.
Far too many want to rule and reign with Christ, and far too few want to know him in the fellowship of his sufferings. To put it another way, " Too many people are trying to live, who have not died yet."
When times of testing, trials, and tribulations come, the profanely religious zealots began to bind-up, rebuke, and cast out the very thing that God intended to use to grow you up and mature you, believing that sufferings and hardships only come from the enemy.
But for every one who has gone through the storms and rain. For every one who has had friends and family turn their backs on you. For every one who has endure pestilence and famine. For every one who has been nailed to a cross, remember this, " Because He Lives, You Can Live."
Those who know him from the depths of their heart, those who have suffered with him, and for His name sake, and have become like him in death, you shall rise again.
