God Places Us At the Right Place At the Right Time

This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says to all those I carried into exile from Jerusalem to Babylon. Build houses and settle down, plant gardens and eat what they produce. (Jeremiah 29:4-5)

God was telling the exiles to appreciate where they were; to bloom where they were planted because they were at the right place at the right time.

God’s people were sent into slavery in Babylon. God told Jeremiah to write a letter telling them they were in the right place at that particular time. They were told to build houses and plant vineyards and settle there because they would be there for 70 years. In other words, God wants us to bloom where we are planted.

Through several biblical examples, I want to show you that God is still in the business of making sure people are at the right place at the right time. From these biblical examples, you might feel that God either has you at the right place or is sending you to the right place for such a time as this.

Saul Looking For Donkeys

We begin this teaching by calling your attending to Saul, who was anointed the first king of Israel. From I Samuel 9 we see that Saul’s father sent him to look for his lost donkeys. Saul didn’t want to go, but because he was obedient to his father, he went anyway. While he was looking for the donkeys, God intervened through the prophet Samuel who anointed Saul the first king of Israel right then and there. Saul never found the donkeys because it wasn’t about the donkeys. It was about getting Saul to the right place where he could be anointed king of Israel.

Would you be willing to go looking for lost donkeys? God might want to intervene and put you on the most important path of your life. Go look for donkeys.

Moses Was At the Right Place at the Right Time

Moses (In Nile River - Exodus 2:1-10; at Burning Bush) - Exodus 3
The next example is Moses. Moses seemed to have been the right place at the right time several times during his life. Here are just two of those times.

Moses was born during the time when Pharaoh had sent out a decree that all boy babies should be killed by throwing them in the Nile River. Moses’ mother hid the baby for as long as she could and when she couldn’t hide him any longer, she did put him in the Nile River, but not the way Pharaoh has ordered. Moses was put in a basket and at the right time, Pharaoh’s daughter found him, She was at the right place at the right time and so was Moses.

Many years later, Moses was on the backside of the mountain tending Jethro’s sheep when God called him to be the one to deliver the slaves out of Egypt. Moses was at the right time at the right place to hear God speak through a burning bush.

Is God speaking to you through a burning bush? Is God trying to get your attention through some other phenomenon?

David Was At the Right Place At the Right Time

David (Anointed king, 1 Samuel 16 with Goliath 1 Samuel 17)
In 1 Samuel 16 David was anointed king long before he actually became king.. The story is told about how Samuel had invited Jesse and his boys to a sacrifice; however, David was out tending sheep. David was going about his daily business doing his normal things. Sometimes God calls us when we are at the right place doing what we are supposed to do instead of trying to do what others are doing. God knows where you are. Therefore, David was called in from tending sheep to be anointed king. Do you have some sheep to tend? It just might put you at the right place at the right time.

Another example is when David’s brothers were in Saul’s army and when David took them lunch he noticed that the Israelites were on one side of the mountain and Goliath was taunting them from the other side. You know the rest of the story about how David was at the right place at the right time to save the day. Are there any Goliath’s in your life that you need to confront so you can follow God’s plan for your life?

Joseph Was At the Right Place at the Right Time

Joseph (pit, slavery, prison, 2nd in command in Egypt)
Genesis 37-50
Being at the right place at the right time doesn't always mean all conditions are going to be favorable. One of the most profound stories in the Bible is found in Genesis 37-50 when Joseph was put down into the pit, down to Egypt and down in Potiphar’s jail.

Joseph’s dreams got him into trouble with his brothers and he ended up in slavery in Egypt. This was God’s plan put in motion for Joseph to be at the right place at the right time. Later, Joseph interpreted Pharaoh’s dream. Here we see that the same thing that caused trouble for Joseph is the thing that caused him to be promoted to become second in command in Egypt. The brothers had to go to Joseph for food for survival. For you see, Joseph was at the right place at the right time.

Have people mistreated you like Joseph’s brother mistreated him? While they might be doing it for evil, God might allow it to happen for your good. God just might be putting you a t the right place at the right time.

Ruth Was at the Right Place at the Right Time

Ruth (Boaz’s Field) - Book of Ruth
The Book of Ruth shows us what happens when you take risks to be at the right place at the right time. Ruth gave up her country, her family, her god and her culture to follow Naomi to Bethlehem. When she was there, she took a chance to do what she had never done before. She did not think it beneath her to glean in the field. Other women might have been gleaning in the field, but it was Ruth whom Boaz chose to become his wife. They got married and had a son named Obed who had a son named Jesse who had a son named David...the same David we just talked about. So you see, being in the right place sort of runs in the family. And Jesus was born into this family.

Esther

Esther (King’s Palace) - Book of Esther
Esther was not supposed to be in the king’s palace because she was a Jew, but see how God orchestrated things for her to become the queen by default. It all started when Queen Vashti refused to dance for the drunken kings. But Esther ended up in the palace for such a time as this to save a whole nation. Esther was at the right place at the right time. Would you say like Esther, “If I perish, I perish, but I am going to see the king?” Are you at the right place for such a time as this?

Samaritan Woman at the Well

Samaritan Woman (at Well) - John 4
It is so blazingly hot in Jerusalem that most people go to work early in the morning and take a long break during the middle of the day when it is the hottest. Then they returned to work later in the evening when it is cooler. Since the Samaritans were despised people, the Samaritan woman went to the well to draw water during the middle of the day when she didn't expect to run into anyone. Guess what? She ran into Jesus because Jesus knew she would be there. She went for water, but He gave her living water so she would never thirst again. The Samaritan woman was at the right place at the right time. Are you willing meet Jesus at the well so you too can be at the right place at the right time?

Saul on Damascus Road

Saul/Paul (Damascus Road) - Acts 9
We are talking now about another Saul. This Saul persecuted the Christians. He went into their houses, dragged them out and did horrible things to them. He thought what he was doing was right. He even got permission to go to Damascus so that he could persecute more Christians. However, God wanted Saul on that Damascus Road. Saul was at the right place at the right place so that He could have that conversion experience that he talked about three times in the Book of Acts. Saul’s name was changed to Paul and he went on to preach the gospel to the Gentiles so that they too could be at the right place at the right time.

Paul was at the right place on that Damascus Road. His life was never the same after that experience. When you are at the right place at the right time, you can be transformed like Paul. Paul’s life was never the same; and yours won't be the same either.

Jesus and Disciples

Jesus (Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John)
In just a couple of months, we will begin to celebrate the birth of Jesus. It would be good to know that Jesus was always at the right place at the right time. It was the right place for Him to be born in a manger in the fullness of time. It was the right time for Him to be baptized in the Jordan River. It was the right time for Him to teach, preach and heal. It was the right time to call Zacchaeus down from the sycamore tree. It was the right time to heal the woman with the issue of blood. It was the right time for Him to pray in the Garden of Gethsemane. It was the right time for Him to be crucified. It was the right time for Him to be buried in a borrowed tomb. It was the right time for Him to be resurrected from the dead. It was the right time to ascend into heaven where He now sits on the right hand of God Almighty making intercessions for us. And when He returns, it will be at the right time.

Disciples in Upper Room (Acts 1:4; 2:1-13) Just before Jesus ascended, He told the disciples to wait in Jerusalem for the promise of the Holy Spirit. They were in the right place at the right time because 10 days after His ascension, the Holy Spirit did come on the day of Pentecost as a seal and guarantee that Jesus kept His promise. So, if Jesus kept that promise, doesn't it stand to reason that He will keep His other promises as well?

Stay in Jerusalem! Be at the right place at the right time for God to enrich your life. Be at the right place at the right time for God to anoint you in special ways. You might become a king like Saul and David. You might become a queen like Esther. You might become second in command of a nation like Joseph. You might meet God at the burning bush. You might have a one-on-one conversation with Jesus at the well. You could become so much more when you are at the right place at the right time.

Are you at the right place at the right time?

YOU (Place: Spiritually; Time: Now)
I have given you a few examples of people who were at the right place at the right time. Well let me tell you that you are here today at the right place at the right time because God ordained it so. Let me assure you that being at the right place at the right time is not limited to where you are physically. It is not limited to your physical position, but it is all about your spiritual condition.

God is saying to you what He said to the exiles in Babylon. Go on build houses, plant vineyards, settled down and enjoy yourself wherever you are, but where you are, God is also.

God wants you to be at the right place at the right time to see His face and to hear His voice. Hallelujah! Being at the right place at the right time! Perhaps you are outside the ark of safety. Perhaps you are not at the right place in your relationship with God. Perhaps you want to be at the right place at the right time. Well, this is the right time and this is the right time to turn your life over to God. "That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. " (Romans 10:9)
