Whether You Believe It or Not...

When someone says the phrase "believe it or not", usually it is followed up with something so outlandish it's unbelievable. The picture above is of the Space Shuttle Endeavor sitting on the launch pad in July 2012 in preparation for her final mission. If you would have told my 8 year old self, "Believe it or not one day you will actually see a Shuttle on the launch pad", I never would have believed it. Likewise, if you told someone 500 years ago that one day we would build a metal machine that would take us to land on the moon and do research, they would probably burn you at the stake. However, sometimes the most incredible stories are actually true. Believe it or not, sometimes believing the story can make all the difference in the world.

Signing of the Declaration

Starting Out...

Starting out, these men who wrote and signed the Declaration of Independence assumed that God was a real creator and sustainer. However, over the years, the assumption that God is real has been attacked and abandoned. Why? Mostly people don't see the need for God. Science is able to explain how things work and we, as humans, can create massive spacecraft to take us into space, deep into the oceans, and travel the globe in a matter of days instead of years. God is seen as an ancient relic of years past designed to control society. In fact, people have written God off as though He doesn't exist at all and that we are a cosmic hodgepodge that accidentally came into existence.

As we delve into the future full steam ahead, because of our great brilliance, we have the ability to screw our lives up more than we ever have before. Between technology and science, we've gained the ability to do more harm to our relationships than anything. Wars, drugs, alcohol, sex, broken relationships, self-centeredness, murder, and many more fill our lives and break us down. The hope that comes with a belief in God is all but gone because there is nothing to look forward to in this life, let alone after death. We work all our lives to amass wealth and materials so we can pass it on to the next generation. That's the hope that many cling to. Many have no hope at all and end it all in suicide. Who really believed that one of the funniest men in the last century, Robin Williams, would end it all in suicide? I surely didn't see that one coming. A life without the hope God delivers is no life at all. I'm here to tell you that believe it or not, there is someone out there who had a plan to eliminate God from the picture completely.

Popular Rendering of How Satan Looks

Evil Isn't What You Think

I cannot tell you how many times I've seen pictures of Satan or the Devil looking like this. Red, horns, evil looks, and all around creepy. The Bible records Satan as once being an angel named Lucifer. More than likely, the red figure we associate with the devil is nothing like what Satan really looks like. In the Bible, he has been associated with a serpent and dragon.

More than likely if you are a non-believer, you just rolled your eyes at the picture and last 5 sentences. You're probably thinking that another Bible-thumper is here to pound you with Scripture and threats of Hell. But bear with me and hear me out. For the believers, keep on reading...we all could use a refresher in these things.

If you saw something like this red, evil face coming at you, more than likely, you'd know to run away from it. You'd know that it was about to harm you. But what if it was beautiful? What if it was as tantalizing as money, endless buffets of food, and a beautiful woman (or man) standing there telling you to ravage them? You'd march forward like a lamb to slaughter. We all do! Satan clothes himself in disguises meant to deceive the masses. His sole purpose is to eliminate God from the mix. And by the way, his plan is working for the moment.

Satan disguises himself in ways designed to take us away from the Truth of God. Jesus being the Son of God and only means of an eternity in Heaven with hope and peace, Satan focuses all of his effort in discrediting Christ. Christ is distorted into something He never has been like a "New Age Christianity". Worldly religions like Islam, Buddhism and Hinduism eliminated Christ and in some instances make God into a completely different being advocating murder and 'becoming one with the universe'. There is only one path to eternity and Satan is hell-bent (pun intended) on taking as many with him as possible. Christ is the path. It's not a religion, denomination or control-mechanism, it is a relationship that determines your eternity.

World Religions

The Truth is

The truth of it is you may not believe in God. You may finish reading this and write the whole thing off and never give it a second thought. But believe it or not, whether or not you believe in God does not determine His actual existence. Believing in God is's a start. However, James 2:19 says that, "19 You believe that God is one; you do well. The demons also believe—and they shudder." Having a belief in God is the right place to start, but it isn't enough. Having an actual, living relationship with Jesus Christ is the key to eternity. The God of the Bible wants nothing more than to spend eternity with you and He will do anything it takes to bring you to Himself. Walking with God isn't going to be sugar-coated because if you remember right, Satan wants to take as many with him as possible. Satan will stop at nothing to tear you away from Christ.

The Truth of the matter is the story of God truly is unbelievable. It is a wild, outlandish story about a Creator who continually pursues people who want nothing to do with Him and rewarding those who pursue Him right back. Believe it or not, the unbelievable, outlandish story of God is true. I cannot offer you physical proof. What I can offer is my testimony. There is not a doubt in my mind that God exists. There is no doubt that Christ has saved me from my sins. There is no doubt that God continues to work in my life and puts so many things together so many times that I cannot just chalk it up to coincidence. God exists. God loves me. God loves you. I've been through some tough things to help build my faith in Christ. My guess is that you've been through tough times too. Is it Satan taking you away from God or is it God trying to get your attention? Only you know that. The walk with Christ isn't easy...but it is worth it.

So believe it or not...the choice is yours.
