Online Bible Verses - Luke Chapter 1: Believe and be Baptized
“In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a town in Galilee, to a virgin pledged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”” Luke 1:26-28NIV
Who was Elizabeth? She was Mary’s cousin, pregnant with John. John the Baptist.
Mary, of course, was carrying Jesus, making He and John cousins. John would, about 30 years later, baptize his cousin Jesus, who was setting an example by doing what He has commanded us to do: that being, if and when the light bulb goes on, go get baptized.
I can remember when it occurred to me that it was my time. Ran it by my wife, she wanted in. I was happy about that. Told my best friend John, he decided to accept Christ and take the plunge as well. Praise the Lord for that. You see, John was one of few people I knew of with a markedly worse track record than my own. But God had told us He would take us as we were, no caveats or small print. Go about fixing what we had finally realized we could not.
One of the best moves I ever made.
