25 Benefits of Quality Time with God

Updated on June 19, 2018
MsDora profile image

MsDora, former teacher and Christian counselor presents practical Scriptural principles for joyful everyday living.

The benefits in this list are not derived from the mere observance of ritualistic exercises like praying, reading a devotional book, or listening to a sermon on worship. Still, sincere participation in such exercises can lead the believer into a sense of God’s presence, which is the prerequisite for quality time with Him.

God’s spiritual presence is everywhere, but people who believe in Him, and commit to a love relationship with Him are more likely to enjoy and reap the benefits. For the believer, quality time with God is to their spirits, what nutrition is to their bodies and education is to their minds. Their spirituality thrives on it as they enjoy two-way communication with God, and engage with Him in activities which renew their strength, fill their needs and maintain their joy.

There are 20 New Living Translation quotes, plus five from non-Bible authors. They all suggest personal interaction with a God who is present and who fills specific individual needs. The narratives also suggest that the benefit of the meeting outlasts the time spent together.

Additional Benefits of Quality Time with God

21. Change

I pray because I can't help myself. I pray because I'm helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time- waking and sleeping. It doesn't change God- it changes me. (William Nicholson, Shadowlands)

22. Character

The time you spend alone with God will transform your character and increase your devotion. Then your integrity and godly behavior in an unbelieving world will make others long to know the Lord. (Charles Stanley, In Touch Ministries)

23. Growth

The fruit of abiding with Christ is one that does not always grow quickly, but it does grow. And it is worth it. (Jen Herrmann, Intervarsity)

24. Relief

When someone’s primary love language is quality time, uninterrupted times of communion with God are . . . burden lifting. (Gary Chapman, The Five Love Languages)

25. Strength

Prayer is the strength of the Christian. When alone, he is not alone; he feels the presence of the One who said, "Lo, I am with you alway." (Ellen White, My Life Today)

Being a believer in God, spending some time offering prayer every day is very important to me. To make it a quality time I try to consciously keep my mind focused so that it wavers to the minimum.

These are beautiful quotes from the Scriptures and very motivating. Thank you for sharing.

I was raised in church but in my adult life after loved ones passed on, it made me see the power and control God has and life on Earth is not forever. It made me depend on God more and want to know Him. I try my best to develop a habit of reading God's Word and doing what He says in His Word. I enjoyed your article very much.

I don't feel that my day gets off to a good start without a time with God at the beginning. Too often though I'm guilty of doing this and forgetting him as the day goes on. Psalm 34 and Psalm 23 were especially relevant to us at a time of great family tragedy. Your Bible verses are always inspirational.

I do see God in almost everything, but I like to remind myself having Him all around me is not like inviting Him in. I love to feel His arms around me but it is much better when I let Him speak to me. That does not happen unless I remember to be talking to Him. Is that His quirk or mine? I am not real sure!

A very inspiring article, with some beautiful quotes and verses!

I believe, being conscious of the fact, that God is there with us and everywhere, is important. That feeling makes things easier for us.

Sometimes I just close my eyes, and concentrate on him, to get answers.

Even if, I may not be able to achieve my goals, I do feel reassured, that I will, some day. And that, there is nothing to worry, since He is there, always.

Thank you for sharing, another inspirational article!
