Book of Confucius ideology Chapter Nine
Passage Two Hundred and Eight
Confucius rarely talk about personal gain, fate and been humane.
Passage Two Hundred and Nine
Many royals said: Confucius is great, he know everything about everything.
After hearing about it, Confucius said to his student: What is my specialization? Is it driving or shooting? I am guessing driving.
Passage Two Hundred and Ten
Confucius said: They use to use, linen to make the hats for polite occasions, they now use silk, which is much cheaper, so I follow everybody. Back in the day, the social code of conduct dictates for one to greet the King, outside the hall. Nowadays, people greet the King, after they enter the hall. I find this to be not polite, so despite, it mean acting different from everybody else, I will still greet the King, before entering the hall.
Passage Two Hundred and Eleven
There are four things Confucius never does. First, he never makes a subjective assumption. Secondly, he never says anything for certain. Thirdly, he is never stubborn, to his own opinion. Four he never calls himself holy.
Note: Psychologist argues that sometimes when a person believes in something badly enough they would refuse to believe otherwise and evaluate everything in a manner in coalition with their pre-existing believe, by looking for the example and constructing opinions in favour of their believe and ignore everything that undermine their existing believe. But as humans we respond not towards a situation, but our evaluation of our situation. So, if our stubborn believe is in coalition with the truth, then we would evaluate situation correctly, but if our stubborn believe is very different from the truth, then we would seriously evaluate the situation incorrectly.
Passage Two Hundred and Twelve
After been trapped Confucius said: After King Wen is dead, aren't I supposed to be the successor of his culture heritage? If the gods want to end this culture, then I won't inherit it. If the gods don't want this culture to end, what can this trap do to me?
Passage Two Hundred and Thirteen
Taizai asked Zihgong: Is the elderly Confucius a saint? Why does he know so much?
Zihgong said: Since it is the gods' will for him to be a saint, of course, he would know a lot.
After hearing it, Confucius said: Do Taizai know a lot about me? My family was poor while growing up, so, I learn many skills that other gentleman won't know of.
Note: Confucius' father is a prince, who died when Confucius is still young. His mother is a peasant that gave birth to him, when she was only sixteen. Despite having royal blood, Confucius is not acknowledged by the monarch, after his father's death and is raised by his mother, along.
Passage Two Hundred and Fourteen
Lou said: Confucius said, "Because nobody uses me before, so I learned a lot of skills.”
Passage Two Hundred and Fifteen
Confucius said: Am I truly all knowing? A farmer asked me a few questions. I don't know the answer to any of it. After asking him and understanding it, I finally know the answers to the questions.
Passage Two Hundred and Sixteen~
Confucius said: The Phoenixes are not coming. The Yellow River has no pictures. All signs of saints are gone. I guess I am doom.
Passage Two Hundred and Seventeen
Whenever Confucius see a person wearing the cloth of funeral, wearing the uniform of the government officials and when he see a blind person, even if he is a young man, Confucius would definitely stand up. If he is walking pass them, he would walk pass them, as soon as possible.
Passage Two Hundred and Eighteen
Yanyuan said: The higher master's level of education become, the more he goes in depth to study. A thing that was once in front of him is now behind him. Master teach us every step, enrich my literature, use manner to discipline me, even if I don't want to learn it, I will still learn. I use all my energy, yet it is still like a giant hill. I want to climb up it, but feel there is no road.
Passage Two Hundred and Nineteen
Confucius is seriously sick. Zihlu let the students act as servants. After he got better, Confucius said: Zihlu lied to me, for a long time! I never used a servant, yet servants suddenly appear. Who is lying to me? Rather than letting servants send me off to the netherworld, I rather have my students send me to the netherworld. Even if my funeral won't be grand, would my body be forsaking at the side of the road?
Note: As a professor, Confucius had over 3000 students, studying in his school.
Passage Two Hundred and Twenty
Zihgong asked: Should we keep a beautiful piece of jewellery in the draw or sell it to somebody who appreciates it?
Confucius said: Sell it! Sell it! I am waiting for someone who appreciates it.
Passage Two Hundred and Twenty One
Confucius went to a remote place
A person said: This place is backwards, what should we do?
Confucius said: How can this place be backward if a gentleman lives here?
Passage Two Hundred and Twenty Two
Confucius said: Only after I return to Lu nation, from Wei nation, did I have my music organized. Everything is now in place.
Passage Two Hundred and Twenty Three
Confucius said: When you are out, show your loyalty to your country. When you are at home, honour your parents. Keep funeral well done, don't be an alcoholic, how is that difficult for me?
Passage Two Hundred and Twenty Four
Confucius said: Time is like water, never return, the rotation of day and night, never end.
Passage Two Hundred and Twenty Five
Confucius said: I've never seen a person who loves moral, as much as he loves a beautiful woman.
Note: If man A has a lustful desire for man B's wife. If man A's virtual surpasses his greed for lust, he would not have sex with man B's wife, even if she throw herself at him. If man A's greed for lust, surpass his virtual, he would not hesitate to sleep with man B's wife, the first chance he got, maybe even try to seduce her.
Passage Two Hundred and Twenty Six
Confucius said: If you try to make a mountain via earth and if you only need to put on one more pile to complete, yet you quit before that, then, it is your decision, not to complete it. Just like if we try making the earth flat, even if I just did a little bit. If I want to continue, that is my choice.
Passage Two Hundred and Twenty Seven
Confucius said: The only person that would 110% concentrate when I speak, is probably Yanhuei.
Passage Two Hundred and Twenty Eight
When speaking of Yanhuei, Confucius said: Pity! I only see him keep going forward, never seen him stop.
Passage Two Hundred and Twenty Nine
Confucius said: There are plants that grow, but has no flower. There are also plants that have flowers but give no fruit.
Passage Two Hundred and Thirty
Confucius said: Young people should not be underestimated, how are we supposed to know, they won't do something greater? But if they still have no achievement by forty or fifty, then chances are, they won't achieve anything.
Passage Two Hundred and Thirty One
Confucius said: Can we ignore the law? But it is only valuable if it change error ways. Isn't it joyful, to have people saying nice things about you? But it is only valuable if we understand the reason behind the praise. If a person is happy blindly, if a person only submit but don’t agree, what we are we supposed to do with these people?
Passage Two Hundred and Thirty Two
Confucius said: Loyalty and honour must be the base, of a person. Don't be friends, with bad people, if you make a mistake, you must change.
Passage Two Hundred and Thirty Three
Confucius said: An army can lose its General. A man cannot lose its ambition.
Passage Two Hundred and Thirty Four
Confucius said: Zihlu is probably the only person that is able to not feel embarrass, wearing old and ripped cloth, while stand next to a person wearing fur. What is wrong about not feeling jealous or greed?
Zihlu remembers this, his entire life. After knowing about it, Confucius said: This is a principle, all people should follow, there is nothing about it, worth feeling satisfy about.
Passage Two Hundred and Thirty Five
Confucius said: Only when winter comes, do we notice the last fallen leaf.
Passage Two Hundred and Thirty Six
Confucius said: A smart person won't be confused. A humane person won't be sad. A brave person won't be scared.
Passage Two Hundred and Thirty Seven
Confucius said: Two people who study together, won't necessary improve at the same speed. Two people who improve at the same speed, won't necessary be able to, have a career together. Two people who have a career together, won't necessary be able to, join forces, to complete an executive task.
Passage Two Hundred and Thirty Eight
There is a poem that said: How can I not feel homesick when I see the blossoming flowers, been gently moved by the soft wind? Only, I am too far away.
Confucius said: That is not true homesick, if it really is homesick, what difference would distance make?
