Coronavirus-Don't Live in Fear
The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any time.— Mark Twain
For many, these are scary times. Heck, not to get political, but Socialism scares the crap out of me. I am concerned because the Coronavirus is dominating the media as well as people’s lives, forcing them to live in fear. I hope to help overcome that by sharing scripture and quotes. Let us apply these ideas to our lives…
Me on Death
I do not fear death, but I would be disappointed to die at this point in my life.
What does the Bible say?
In the Bible, the Lord spoke to Isaac in Genesis 26:24 (KJV)…fear not, for I am with thee, and will bless thee… The Lord gave encouragement to Joshua…Joshua 1:9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest. Jesus spoke to his Apostles when He calmed the sea in Matthew 8:26: Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.
If we are doing what is right, the Lord will be with us. We should be careful, of course, by washing our hands more and using sanitizer.
Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.— Martin Luther
The Last Days
Many consider it to be the last days. Consider Jesus speaking about His second coming in Luke 21:11- And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven. Later in the chapter…Luke 21:26: Men’s hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken.
So, it is prophesied that there will be natural disasters and men’s hearts will fail them.
He who has overcome his fears will truly be free.— Aristotle
Fear not death for the sooner we die, the longer we shall be immortal.— Benjamin Franklin
Have No Fear
It's cliche, but the acronym FEAR=False Evidence Appearing Real. It is probably unlikely that you would get the Coronavirus. So be careful. You may want to avoid people that are sick. As mentioned, wash your hands more and use sanitizer.
So what should we do? 2 Timothy 1:7- For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Additional considerations from modern revelation in the Doctrine and Covenants. Does the following ring true?
Therefore, whosoever belongeth to my church need not fear, for such shall inherit the kingdom of heaven. (D&C 10:55) …if ye are prepared ye shall not fear (D&C 38:30). Wherefore, be of good cheer, and do not fear, for I the Lord am with you, and will stand by you; and ye shall bear record of me, even Jesus Christ, that I am the Son of the living God, that I was, that I am, and that I am to come. (D&C 68:6)
C’mon, people! The gospel of Jesus Christ is the good news. Let it guide your life so that you no longer live in fear.
