Can Worrying Add To Your Life?

Updated on April 9, 2012

Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? Matthew 6:27 KJV

Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? Matthew 6:27 NIV

People who suffer from anxiety and worry invest so much time into it and it doesn't change one thing. I know because I suffered from it and so did my mother. I'm pretty sure that I learned it from my mother who I watched worry endlessly. Thankfully, I learned through God how not to do this. It is not an easy task but I can give you some tips on how to get over this. First of all, you must have faith in God. If you don't have much faith I can help you get more. Everytime you start worrying or having anxiety you must train your brain to immediately pray instead. Just tell all your worries to the Lord. Common worries start off like this, "I hope this doesn't happen or oh if this happens I don't know what I will do." Everytime you get that first thought of worry, just turn it into prayer. "Dear God, please don't let this happen but watch over this situation and give me a peace and into my heart and calm my mind so that I won't worry." And guess what? It will go away, but unfortunately it will come back. Why? because it is a deep rooted habit. The act of worry also shows that we don't trust God with our future. When it comes back again pray, and again. Just keep doing this until it minimizes. Eventually it will go away. Also have a verse that you memorized to say in your mind everytime. Such as: Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10

So many illnesses are cause from stress, worry and anxiety. If we even put half the time we spent on worry into a hobby we would feel much better. Find a hobby to do. If you can't think of one just start studying the bible, this will benefit you greatly. If you could get your mind off of your own problems and start helping someone else with problems this will also be a great help. Maybe you could volunteer at a food bank or visit people in nursing homes. As the bible verse above states worrying doesn't add to your life. Maybe the only thing it will add is wrinkles or ulcers. I think it takes away from your life.
