The Illusion of Modern Day Christianity

PlanksandNails' goal is to be a catalyst in encouraging the followers of Christ to pursue Biblical truth for themselves.

Today, we are being bombarded with information. As many watch the news and peruse social media and the hundreds of other outlets, it should be obvious there is an agenda going on. The craftiest marketing and propaganda tactics are working in full force as the attitudes and behaviours of people are changing by the droves.

Not all information is malevolent; however, the information highway is on overload. It is for this reason that it is becoming more and more difficult to discern the truth from the lies.

We have many different spheres of influence, such as well-meaning family, opinionated friends, teaching from religious institutions, radio broadcasts and the aggressive advertisers that all want to convey their brand of message, or agenda to you. The pressure can be overwhelming at times as we are bombarded with the clutter of the world we live in.

Why should we tune in or listen to anyone?

Sometimes we forget the context of these words,

“Be still, and know that I am God. I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!” - Psalm 46:10

In the busyness of this world, the noise never seems to really turn off.

All anyone really wants to do is promote a particular person, product, sect or denomination.

Prove it to Yourself

The circus lights are always on, the merry-go-round, the screams of roller coaster rides, the side shows and illusions can be can be dizzying at times. What you may have not considered is that the many different types of information that we are receiving on a daily basis from one side of the spectrum to the other all has one thing in common. It is all an illusion. It is a mirage for you to chase after, but gets you nowhere.

Have you considered as you partake of the great information highway to ask yourself why the teachings of Christ are almost completely absent?

Try any social media outlet and scroll through the thousands of different religious headlines, new stories, church advertisements and the likes and you will not find the promotion of the unadulterated teachings of Christ anywhere. In fact, they do not point Christ at all. Their only concern is pointing to religious men and the ministries they have made for themselves.

The illusion of modern Christianity is that it assumes to follow Christ, but they are following a mirage of Christ that will never lead to living waters.

This is why what is called a 'Christian' today needs to be witnessed to with the Gospel of the Kingdom because they do not understand why Christ rent the veil.

There are thousands of Christian sects and denominations out there that all believe that God is on their side. The sad fact is that most of the world has never met the genuine Christ, the Son of God. The evidence is right in front of our eyes, but if you do not know the words of Christ and claim to follow him, then you probably do not know him.

This is an insult to many and a message that they do not want to hear.

This is something that we must consider as we walk on the narrow path. We must allow Christ to be the Head in all things and obey his ways if we claim to follow him.

Christ is the Cornerstone

Christ compared himself and the foundation of his teaching as a 'rock' or 'cornerstone.'

Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: “‘The stone that the builders rejected

has become the cornerstone; this was the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our eyes’? – Matthew 21:42

Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. – Matthew 7:24

Christ’s prediction came true as all the religious builders would reject or replace the solid rock for the shifting sands of man-made religion.

Like the Pharisees who put Christ to death, in the same way, the religious activists of today love to talk about the poor, prayer, worship, fasting, faith, morality, prophecy, miracles, demons, justice, tithing, charity and even Christ. All these things can be identified in the modern-day church system today. This is called 'Christianity;' however, these people have put him to death in their own lives by their actions and behaviours. They are good at talking the talk, but walking is not part of their repertoire.

Let’s see what Christ had to say about them.

For whoever shall have been ashamed of me and my teachings, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own and the Father's glory and in that of the holy angels. – Luke 9:26

But he will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you come from. Depart from me, all you workers of evil!’ – Luke 13:27

It is true there are a lot a cult leaders and religious loose cannons out there, but Christ was addressing those who claimed to be followers of God.

We can read about the reaction of those who heard Christ’s words in his day. This is the same reaction of those who are the most respected church leaders who are in high and elevated positions today. Try witnessing to one of them the Gospel of the Kingdom and see their reaction.

All these people have failed in receiving God’s ultimate revelation to mankind delivered by His Son because they lack fruit.

Therefore I tell you, the Kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people producing its fruits. – Matthew 21:43

The religious world today will be condemned for what it does not teach. They refuse to delve into the utmost important principles of the Kingdom of God. Everyone claims to have a plan of salvation, but you will rarely find those who whole-heartedly take into account the teachings of Christ.

The Well is Dry

The evidence cannot be disputed; they do not obey Christ. They will steer you away to their ecclesiastical human replacements.

These are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, swept along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever. – Jude 1:12-13

They want you to come and take a drink from their wells that do not have water in places where there are clouds without rain. They all say they are the watering grounds to grow, mature and bear fruit, but they will lead you to a desert to run after a mirage. It is a dry and empty counterfeit system that ultimately leads to death.

You have to really ask yourself,

Have I fallen for the counterfeit?

Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” – Luke 18:8

Do you have the faith of an overcomer?

Will he find you?

The Days of Noah and Lot

We are moving towards the days of Noah and Lot in our reality today. That means that there are not going to be too many to be found faithful just as in the days of old.

Noah worked for one-hundred and twenty years in a place that lacked water where the clouds had no rain, yet he remained faithful and obedient to God. His whole life looked like a gamble to most because he based his life on a message that he claimed came from God. He did not see great healings, the feeding of great multitudes or people being raised from the dead. All Noah had was a strong conviction that he was to obey God and build a boat. He had a strong faith to take heed the revelation he received from his God that the world as he knew it was coming to an end.

Do we have the same faith that he had today?

In the days of Lot, Abraham was convinced that there had to be righteous people around in the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Have you ever asked yourself why he would have thought that?

If you go into one of the many great cities around the world today, they are filled with many respectable people. Many are religious and claim to worship God. They go to their religious services and give glory to God and associate with Christ and talk about all the great things he has done. Think about it, Abraham must have thought the same thing that there had to be some faithful to be found, but the land he was focusing on was barren and destitute.

What is interesting is that Christ did not mention the sexual abominations that went on in Sodom and Gomorrah, but instead spoke of the people who married, raised families, built houses and planted crops. They all probably believed that they were doing something noble in their endeavors, but even they were destroyed with fire and brimstone. The wrath of God came not only for those who engaged in unnatural behaviours, but also for the counterfeits. Both groups did not care about living in obedient faith towards Yahweh in their lives and they were destroyed.

We need to wake up because we are living in similar times again today. The religious counterfeits are everywhere. They are the status quo and sound so convincing in their pious demeanour and supposed spirituality that love to draw on the emotional heartstrings of the masses. People love to buy into their wares and empty their wallets for their 'promises.' They do not understand that they are being used and will be left high and dry without any real answers. They will never truly find freedom from sin because they have not been shown and offered the genuine article. They are lost in the endless proliferation of man-made religious propaganda from the thousands of institutional and denominational entities out there. In their whirlwind of confusion, a new guru, sage or religious leader must be promoted who has supposed new revelations and solutions to the problems of the world.

We need to call their bluff. They are the pied pipers who stumble along in the dark with their followers both inside and outside of the religious institutions.

There is no new formula. There is only one given a long time ago. It is a formula that no one likes to use and has been pushed to the wayside as being deemed irrelevant and outdated. In fact, it is completely ignored in modern church system which is evidence that their cornerstone is not Christ.

The Rock that gives living water.
The Rock that gives living water.

The Rock of Our Salvation

He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when a flood arose, the stream broke against that house and could not shake it, because it had been well built. - Luke 6:48

Yahweh sent His Son, our Messiah to give us all the answers we need. They have been written down for those who are willing to read for themselves. Unfortunately, people don’t want to read, they don’t want to do, but desire the clergy to read to them and do things on their behalf. The gullible find for themselves a hireling to put coats of paint on their untreated rust. The paint only gives them a coverup, but the rust is still there and still eats away at their souls.

The real deal, the genuine way is found in Christ. His words expose the counterfeits who market their ever-changing plans, agendas and winds of doctrine. They are simply contradictions to Christ’s character. To follow the path of modern day religion is the exact opposite of following Christ by walking the narrow way.

It is important to be able to ask and answer these two simple questions:

Does this person's ministry support or contradict the teachings of Christ?

Does this person's ministry walk in or contradict the principles of the Kingdom of God?

The sad fact is that most can’t even answer a yes or no because they have a clue what Christ taught and they do not understand what it means to walk in Kingdom values and principles.

You see, there are two types of people that are easily discerned.

They are either loyal to the teachings of Christ or they react to them because they have a problem with them. The saddest is that the most sincerely devout religious people fall into the latter category because they do not follow Christ, but a hired hand instead.

They claim to follow Christ, but deny him in their behaviours. They do not know him.

It’s that simple.

Try ask yourself and others these questions as you are being bombarded on the information highway.

I’ll bet you will be surprised that the results reveal a missing cornerstone.

If you are among the ekklesia, then Christ is your Cornerstone. If we are in him, we will be built upon the solid Rock and will not wander off chasing a mirage into the sinking sands of man-made traditions.

Do you understand the principles of the Kingdom of God?

Good article. We should all follow the teachings of Jesus, whether we are Buddhist, Islamic, Jewish or Hindu. What were His teachings?

God is like a good, loving parent (Abba, Daddy),

      Love one another,

      Forgive to be forgiven, and

      Do not condemn (Accept) others.

Any story depicting God as violent or condoning violence or with negative human emotions is blasphemy. Have a high Ideal/God and follow it.

      Luke,

Thanks for reading the article and your thoughts.

What you can be sure of is that I am careful to know what I am writing about. If you perceive that I am pointing fingers, you can be assured it is for a good reason.

Pointing fingers can be both a good thing and a bad thing. It's all based on perspective.

      Have a nice day!

This was an interesting article. I'd be careful pointing fingers, as several are usually pointed back at you. However, your words seem sincere and your message is clear. Thanks for sharing and keep up the good work :)
