The Secret is Within

Updated on November 6, 2010

"...but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you."--John 14:17

We are told in John 14:17 that the Holy Spirit "...dwelleth with you, and shall be in you." How wonderful it is to know that the third person of the Godhead dwells within us to comfort, to walk by our side, and to abide with us forever (John 14:16). We Christians, during the age of grace, have experienced something not known in times past. Jesus tells His disciples in verse 17 that the Holy Spirit dwells with them, but after His ascension He will dwell in them.

Colossians 1:27 says that "...Christ {is} in you, the hope of glory." Not only does the Holy Spirit dwell within the believer, but so does Christ. May I point out that it is the LIVING Christ that lives within, and it is He who wants to live His life through us.

I Corinthians 3:16 makes us aware that "..the Spirit of God dwelleth in you." The One that spoke the world into existence, the One who parted the Red Sea, the One that destroyed  a rebellious world with a great flood, the One who can give us victory and power lives within each and every Christian.

There should be no excuses (there is no excuse) for the way we sometimes live our Christian lives. We sometimes live our lives apart from God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit. We make the decisions. We call the shots. We make the mistakes, and then wonder what went wrong. We have the ability to live a life that pleases God, as well as a life that gives us true joy. We can only have true joy when we please God. John 15:10 and 11 tell us, "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full."

We certainly have the ability to witness to a lost and dying world of the love of Christ. According to Acts 1:8, we have received power to do just that. That power is found in the fact that the living God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit all dwell within the believer. Before Christ gave us the Great Commission in Matthew 28:19, 20, He told us ALL power is given unto Him (Matthew 28:18). Then He promised us that same power in Acts 1:8--"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth."

You may be fearful, but God did not give us a spirit of fear. He did give us power (see II Timothy 1:7). Perhaps you are a little shy. In verse 8 Paul tells us not to be "...ashamed of the testimony of our Lord...." Perhaps you are taken with some pride and do not really see the need to witness. How can we be that way when we realize that the One who died for us lives within us and seeks to use us beyond our expectations?

We have the ability to live "above the circumstances", so why do we so often live under the circumstances? We are MORE than conquerors through Christ (Romans 8:37). We can do all things through Christ (Philippians 4:13), but without Christ we can do nothing (John 15:5).

No matter what trial satan may send our way, we have the power to overcome and continue to live for the Lord as we rely on Him (Proverbs 3:5) and rest in Him (Matthew 11:28, 29). The purpose of man is to glorify God (Isaiah 43:7), but "Woe unto him that striveth with his maker..." (Isaiah 45:9). Rely on the power of God within you to overcome difficulties and trials in your life, that God might get the glory, and that you might find peace as you rest in Him.

Allow God to have His perfect way in every area of your life. Allow Him to direct all your ways. Allow Him to have complete control of every situation, and allow Him to bless you beyond all you could ever imagine. Remember what you have in Christ. Allow the Godhead to fill and use you. Remember also, that the secret of a joyful life comes from within.

      HB,

Yes, what a wonderful privilege we have to repeat those very words of Christ in His name, and to know that the spirits are subject unto us through that same name. Thanks for the visit and the insight!

Awesome page! We must trust God and take his lead!

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? Luke 11:13

Yes we boldly share Jesus with the world and when satan tries to stop us we will say like Jesus said when Peter spoke words inspired from satan-Get thou behind me satan,in Jesus name!

I will not die but I will live & declare the works of the Lord! :)

AMEN! As you said we do have the power to overcome, but sometimes we need to reminded of that and not buy into the lies of the enemy that we are defeated. My morning prayer, as soon as I open my eyes, is for God to give me the strength and wisdom to deal with adversity and trials, and to open a door to be a testimony of His grace and salvation regardless of what the enemy throws in my path to hinder me. If I did not have Jesus in me, I know I would not have victory over any situation. Great inspiring hub!

Lifegate, Excellent! This is a powerful and inspiring Message! As you say! “We sometimes live our lives apart from God, Christ, and the Holy Spirit. We make the decisions. We call the shots. We make the mistakes, and then wonder what went wrong. We have the ability to live a life that pleases God, as well as a life that gives us true joy. We can only have true joy when we please God. John 15:10 and 11 tell us, "If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.” Amen & AMEN! The JOY of the LORD truly is our strength!

Yes we are to witness to this dying world! But we must also live out the principles of God in as well. We cannot continue to hide behind excuses… We should see a spiritual progression of growth in ourselves as go through them! We must embrace the Lord and focus on Him!

We must walk in obedience to God’s WORD! Trials and tribulations are certain however as you say: “No matter what trial satan may send our way, we have the power to overcome and continue to live for the Lord as we rely on Him (Proverbs 3:5) and rest in Him (Matthew 11:28, 29). The purpose of man is to glorify God…” Amen! God has given us His precious Holy Spirit! Each day we must ask for His infilling presence tp help us navigate over, under and through the spiritual warfare that is placed in our path… YES!! Through Jesus Christ we are more than “conquerors” Thank you for this marvelous Message! We must as Jude teaches us “Contend for the FAITH!” Praise GOD!

In His Love, Grace, Joy, Peace & Blessings!

THIS IS ONE SECRET WORTH SHARING!!!

      Specialk,

God truly is greater than any circumstance in life, and as the old hymn says His grace "is greater than all our sin" as well. How wonderful it is to be a Christian.

He IS still God, and greater things are still to be done in this country. We see His love and compassion unendingly, His mercy abounds and we see it when we are faithful and obedient to Him as our Saviour. God has so blessed and will continue to bless us each and everyone. Thank you for a wonderful insight.
