Christian Charity, the lack thereof...Truth Is...

Updated on August 9, 2011

When Charity is Lacking

Truth Is ministries is taking a "time out" to share with you something pertaining to the subject of his most recent Hub(s) dealing with Charity and Today's Church.

Most of what I have written about comes from my own observing behaviors, attitudes, actions, and generally(most often) NON-action(s) of various churches and church groups unwilling to offer substantive aid for people that I have met accross the country. In particular there is a man that was a working man that unfortunately lost his job through no fault of his own. He went from agency to agency, then subsequently from church-to-church seeking help. He has a family which includes NEW BORN GRANDSON. ...

Well, for two entire months this gentleman put in hours searching for work during the day, all on foot and covering several miles. A good idea except that he is hypoglycemic and has high blood pressure along with emphysema and the ardorous trreks on little and mostly no food eventually took it's toll on his health. Coupled with this is the fact that he has now lost his residence and all his belongings in an illegal eviction.

The sad part is that he approached several clergy members seeking help to get hot meals, to get his clothes washed so that he could be presentable when job-seeking, maybe a bus pas. The man couldn't even get ANY of these "righteous" people to even supply him a much needed roll of toilet paper! Truth!!!

Now he's on the street with nothing, having received very few hot meals and being offered clothing well before he actually neded it(he only needed to do laundry, but was offered MORE clothing to add to the already high pile of dirty laundry!

Tis is quite distressing to witness and hopefully enough to spark you not only to outrage, but action. If helping people is such a hardship now for today's church, what will it be like when things get harsher as the bible foretells that it shall? How dare we be so selfish and then have the audacity to praise GOD AND EXPECT HIS CONTINUED BLESSING(S)!

I actually spoke with many of these people and the reasons they gave mirrored those featured in the three part series before this hub. They look for reasons not to help and ways to deflect their God-given responsibility onto others.

Am I my brother's keeper? YES! We are supposed to be. If we feel otherwise, then "Woe unto thee!..." Isaiah 1:7-15 comes to mind and admonishes that your worship can be unacceptable to God when you THINK you are doing something wonderful. Matthew 7:21 is yet another reference. How often Jesus cautioned to care for those in need. He even said to give your enemy your coat...YOUR ENEMY!

In any event, this is a call to any and all who actually DO have Christ in them to assist this man and his family. Those who are willing please contact Truth Is...at vera-dale@hotmail.com at your earliest convenience for details on how it can be mad to happen and what you may do.

Until the next time I bid you God's love and ...mercy

You are so on the money with this one Truth Is. The churches are so money hungry and stingy it's a shame! In order to get any type help you have to jump through hoopps and fill out all sorts of papers and practically go through an actual interrogation only to be told that the church has nothing for! It's ridiculous.

There has been a storm of angry response to this hub; from church heirarchy of course. Responses have ranged from:" If a person don't want the 'holy ghost', they can't get nothing from this church!"; to "You go to get grounded in with the lord. If you're coming tothe church for help, then God is punishing you for something". These of course are quite assenine remarks. What about their own members who face hardship(s). Then too, they obviously are truly blindto the world's condition today and the fact that millions are hurting financially and otherwise, all due to the world lying in the power of the wicked one, Satan, who will soon be vanquished. That's why it's good to see how your church handles people in need. Follow-up on it, ask questions and insist on SEEING that something substantive was done to help the people. Hey, part of it is your money too, you gave it! If it becomes eveident that your church has turned away the hungry and not fed them(more than beets and a couple cans), or allowed them to leave without hving any oftheir more serious needs met even though they are able...GET OUTOF BABYLON! mAKE SURE THAT WHEN YOUR PASTOR OR DEACONS ANNOUNCE THAT THEY ARE GOING TO HELP SOMEONE, HOLD THEM TO IT.

Don't allow greedy church leadership endanger your christian giving.

Ok, I'd like to help. I'll be contacting you at your email soon. Your writing has revealed a lot of things that I think everybody knows but it's easier tomignore it or let it go. I think that people get comfortable with their way of worship and all that goes with it to the point that they sometimes unwittingly and sometimes intentionally are willing to compromise what they know is right to hold onto the things that makes them feel good or that they are doing enough of what's right.

Keep on writing Truth Is, you'd be surprised at how many are actually listening. I see that number growing even larger .
