The Cancer Of Christian Zionism.

Christian Zionism as a belief began in the 19th Century by some British Christians who thought that if Israel was founded quickly it would encourage Christ to return as described in the New Testament.

Christian Zionists base this belief that when Israel was founded in 1948 it was the culmination of Biblical prophecy. Many Evangelists in America support the ethos of Christian Zionism and that Jerusalem for example is the one and only Jewish capital of Israel which should never be shared with the Palestinians.

Christian Zionism has been called one of the biggest stumbling blocks to the Israeli - Palestinian peace accord which seems at the moment either in hibernation or non - existant. For example Christian Zionists feel it is right for Israeli settlers to take land away from Palestinians as it is they believe the land that God gave to the Jews to be their once and future homeland.

John Hagee is one such pastor born in 1940 who espouses the vision of Christian Zionism that Bible believing Christians if they take the Bible seriously and literally should stand with the Jewish people of Israel. Hagee himself has said that he can make Christians who say they believe in the Bible to either support Israel or give up their faith.

He runs a megachurch with 20,000 members and also runs Global Evangelism Television and has supported politicians on the right such as opponent of Barack Obama John McCain in the 2008 Presidential election.

Hagee is a controversial figure and has been attacked for his pro - Israel views and his views on the Catholic church for which he had to apologise after meetings with Catholic leaders. He has also attacked Islam saying globally it is a bigger threat to civilization than Nazism and Communism ever were. Though purportedly pro - Israel Hagee has landed himself in deep water saying what were interpreted by some as anti - Jewish sentiments and also called Hitler a half breed Jew descended from the Prophet Esau.

TV Channels like the so called 'God Channel' broadcasting from Jerusalem also espouse Zionist views and other evangelicals like Benny Hinn who appear frequently on this station also hold Zionist views.

Going back to John Hagee he has founded groups Like Christians United For Israel but this has been criticised by opponents of his with one saying "Christians United For Israel is a misleading title as it gives the impression that all Christians are inclined to support Israel and be anti - Palestinian when this is clearly not the case".

Christian Zionism it seems ignores the Palestinian people who just happen to be Christian and other Arab people who are of this belief preferring instead to support Israel which has seen anti - Christian violence by Jewish extremists.

Christian Zionists tend to belong to the evangelical fraternity it seems and mainly Baptist churches where as the established churches like the Catholic and Anglican churches seem to be for UN help for the Palestinians and the eventual founding of a Palestinian state alongside Israel living in peace and harmony as was originally espoused by the Oslo Agreement which if current Israeli - Palestinian violence is anything to go on is dead in the water. Of course not all evangelicals support Israel many have re - thought their ideas on seeing Israel's violence towards the Palestinians which Israelis describe as self defence but can often incur the deaths and injuries of many Palestinian civilians when groups like Hamas in Gaza allegedly hide in civilian areas.

Christian Zionism also rejects the idea of 'Replacement Theology' whereby God has finished with the Jewish people and now Christians are the chosen people and the Church is what Israel used to be in God's plans.

Finally I am a Christian who believes that if Jesus were on Earth today he would be right down the middle of the Israeli - Palestinian conflict as Jesus never it seems took sides if you read your Gospels other than to say you are either for me or against me. Look at his example with the Samaritan woman a people who were outcasts in their day shunned by the Jewish authorities and mixing with people like prostitutes and tax - collectors. Jesus welcomed all into his kingdom a mistake I believe the Christian Zionists like Hagee and Hinn are making big time.

Let us use social media to encourage Pope Francis to authorize a Bible which makes it clear we are not to do violence man against man in the name of religion...

      or you can go direct.

      Pope visits synagogue, rebukes violence

Visiting a synagogue in Rome, Pope Francis said, "Violence by man against man is in contradiction with any religion worthy of that name."

We need to reeducate the Hagees of the world. Perhaps Pope Francis can help. I suggest a, "Pope Francis" edition of The Bible where the Pope repeats the above statement in notes or headings throughout The Bible. See Hub, "Pope Francis Bible."

I've heard some of Hagee's preaching where he fear mongers to his audience about coming wars or destruction. In one particular sermon he talked about Muslim terrorists getting hold of a Nuke and setting it off. The man seems like a warmonger more so than a preacher.

I enjoyed this article and am glad to know that there are Christians who reject Hagee's divisive message.
