Christians shocked that Jesus had a wife?
Christians are not shocked
Who actually believes that Jesus had a wife?
Major media sources rushed to report “evidence that Jesus had a wife.” This is expected to bring major shock waves to the Christian church. What on earth will we do? Jesus is the same, yesterday, and forever. Whatever we do, we will not be shocked.
Basis of Christianity
Christians are defined as followers of Christ. By faith Christians believe that Jesus was born of a virgin birth, was crucified and buried, and arose on the third day. His resurrection completes the payment of sinners debt if they choose to accept His gift of salvation.
By Grace through faith
We have faith that we are saved by grace.
" For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Ephesians 2:8,9
When we trust God, we will not be swayed by every wind. Faith is the substance of things hoped for evidence of which is not seen. Many people think Christians are crazy to believe this. We have accepted God's gift of eternal life through Jesus Christ. We do this by faith.
How do Christians know what to believe?
Christians believe that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God. It does not contain contradictions as many allege. The supposed contradictions are caused by those who isolate one passage and do not put it in context. Christians, through consistent Bible study, grow in knowledge and understanding of God and His will for our lives.
“Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation.” 1 Peter 2:2
How do Christians know what to “not” believe?
Diligent study of the Bible and verse memorization helps to hide God’s Word in our hearts. We are able to process all we hear in light of what we know from God’s Word.
“Do not be led away by diverse and strange teachings, for it is good for the heart to be strengthened by grace, not by foods, which have not benefited those devoted to them.” Hebrews 9:13
“And I solemnly declare to everyone who hears the words of prophecy written in this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God will add to that person the plagues described in this book. And if anyone removes any of the words from this book of prophecy, God will remove that person’s share in the tree of life and in the holy city that are described in this book.” Revelations 22:18-19
The Bible tells us who Jesus' wife will be
Did Jesus have a wife?
No! The Bible does not say that He had a wife nor imply that He had a wife. The Bible has many passages about husbands and wives. Jesus lived an exemplary life and showed us how to live. Had he had a wife would that not have been one of the examples shown in Scripture. Ephesians 5:1 encourages Christians to follow Christ’s example. Ephesians 5:21-33 addresses husband, wife, and children’s relationships with each other.
“A man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the two are united into one.”This is a great mystery, but it is an illustration of the way Christ and the church are one.So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband." Ephesians 5:31-33
Notice the relationship of the husband and wife being one in the same way that Christ and the church are one. The Bible tells us that the church is the bride. I Corinthians 15 and other passages address the betrothal of the Church to Jesus.
It is ok to disagree!
The Bible encourages us to not argue. We should be ready and able to speak of the hope that lies with in us.
“But have nothing to do with foolish questionings, and lists of generations, and fights and arguments about the law; for they are of no profit and foolish.” Titus 3:9
God is Love and He wants us to love others. While we love, let us be like trees planted by the water. Let us stand on the promises of God.
Trust God ... not man!
“For I know the plans I have for you," says the LORD. "They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11
We know that we have a certain hope and an eternal future. We are not shocked by the claim that Jesus had a wife. We absolutely do not believe it. Non-believers would like for us to be shocked. This too shall pass.
