Closeness of God

Updated on July 1, 2018

Sometimes we forget how close God is to us. Through his Spirit He is with us and in us as Christians. He is God (Deity) and able to have a very close relationship with everybody on earth - closer even than marriage. Because He is God, He is not limited, like us, in his ability to have a close relationship with all the Christians on earth and in Heaven. He knows the attitudes of our hearts, our thoughts, words, deeds, needs and the character of every Christian. Therefore He knows how to take care of us and He knows what we need even before we ask Him about it.

We forget sometimes that God the Father is a real person, and so is the Lord Jesus. They are not just some vague force in the heavens. Also, they are not just in general loving people on earth, but their love for us and their interest in us is very personal and to the point. If you spend time with Him, He is there with His full attention, as if you were the only person on earth. This He can do with all Christians on earth and in Heaven at the same time.

God desires to dwell in us through His Spirit and have an all day relationship with us. That is as close as you can get. That is how much He loves us. He wants us to "walk with Him" through our day. We can share all our emotions and thoughts with Him. We are never alone. He shares in a very personal way our happiness, our sadness, what we plan in our minds, etc. and He is always there to guide us in life, to guide us in righteousness, to give us peace.

If we think about this closeness of God, we should know that it is only possible because we have the blood of Jesus to cover our imperfection. In confidence we can then draw near to God and live and walk with Him. If we sin willfully, this closeness can be removed. We do make mistakes, but we should not sin often. If we make a mistake, we should ask forgiveness, and the blood of Jesus to cleanse us, so that the closeness can be restored. Remember that all Christians will receive in the judgment according to their deeds. If we start sinning willfully again after salvation, we can lose our place in the Kingdom of Heaven, unless we repent.

Ps 19:14 [WEB]
Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart
be acceptable in your sight,
Yahweh, my rock, and my redeemer.

Gen 5:24 [WEB]
Enoch walked with God, and he was not found, for God took him.

Gen 6:9 [WEB]
...Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time. Noah walked with God.

1John 2:1, 2 [WEB]
My little children, I write these things to you so that you may not sin. If anyone sins, we have a Counselor with the Father, Jesus Christ, the righteous. And he is the atoning sacrifice for our sins...

Rev 2:23 [WEB]
...and all the assemblies will know that I am he who searches the minds and hearts. I will give to each one of you according to your deeds.

Heb 10:26, 27 [WEB]
For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and a fierceness of fire which will devour the adversaries.
