Choices, Consequences, and Benefits

Updated on January 23, 2017

Romans 8 KJV

Jesus Christ came with a free plan of righteousness for us to walk after the Spirit and not after the flesh. In verses, 1 - 39 of Romans 8, Apostle Paul presents compelling reasons for us to follow God’s plan for our lives through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Below is a table of consequences and/or benefits that we can expect to receive as a result of the choice that we make.

Consider the Benefits Package of each choice.

Walking after the flesh
Walking after the Spirit
mind the things of the flesh (v.5)
no condemnation (v.1)
carnally minded (v.6)
freedom from the law of sin and death (v.2)
death (v.6)
sin is condemned (v.3)
enmity against God (v.7)
righteousness of the law is fulfilled (v.4)
not subject to the law of God (v.7)
mind the things of the Spirit (v.5)
cannot please God (v.8)
spiritually minded (v.6)
is none of Christ (v.9)
life and peace (v.6)
spirit of bondage (v.15)
indwellling of the Spirit of God (v.9)
bondage of corruption (v.21)
quickening of the mortal body (v.11)
debtors not to the flesh (v.12)
sons of God (v. 14)
Spirit of adoption (v. 15)
Abba, Father (v. 15)
children of God (v. 16)
heirs: heirs of God and joint-heirs with Christ (v. 17)
suffer and glorified with Christ (v.17)
glorious liberty (v.21)
firstfruits of the Spirit (v.23)
Spirit makes intercession for (v.26)
all things work togethr for good (v.28)
foreknew, predestinated, called, justified, and glorified (vv.20-30)
conformed to the image of Christ (v. 29)
God is for us (v.30)
God and His Son will freely give all things (v.32)
Christ makes intercession for (v.34)
more than conquerors (v.37)
God's love is inseparable (v.38)

The Benefits Package that is ours for walking after the Spirit is far greater than that of continuing to walk after the flesh. When we reject Christ's righteousness that He so freely came to bring us; we choose to walk after the flesh instead of the Spirit. We choose death over life. In essence, we are saying to Christ,

"I didn't need You to die for me and my righteousness. I got this. I like walking after the flesh. If it ain't broke, then why are You trying to fix it?"

Why not trust God enough to know that He created us and He knows what's best for us? It really is as easy as making the choice to walk after the Spirit. The flesh will hate this decision. But remember, we are more than conquerors. With the Holy Spirit dwelling in us; the flesh has no choice but to walk after the Spirit.

Nothing will ever stop God from loving us. The question is, "Will we allow the flesh and the desires of the flesh to prevent us from loving God, receiving the righteousness of His Son Christ Jesus, and walking after the Spirit?" Why not upgrade your Benefits Package if your old one is coming up short? The upgrade is FREE! Jesus has already paid the price for it.

Word of wisdom that can only propel from god himself, it shows that you've been doing your bible studies, and have experienced much in life thus far judging by your hub writing skills here, and the language in which it professes godly truths.

Awesome job here with this hub, and God bless you for writing it, oh and thanks for answering one of my recent questions. Voted up and getting shared.

You are so right, Alexander Mark. It's as simple as making a choice. I pray that many will choose wisely and experience His "out of this world" benefits package! Thanks so much for sharing your comments. I enjoyed reading them.

Amen! You make it sound as simple as it really is. Many people believe there is a payment or catch to following Christ and receiving the "benefits package." But that is completely untrue, it's free and the benefits are as they say, out of this world!

Yvette: Seeing the breakdown as you have presented it, the choice is a "No Brainer. Walking the way of the Spirit is now and has always been my preference.

Interesting approach and very effective. Religious discussions seldom get down to a point by point comparison. Your approach might change a few minds.

      Good Job

      Up and Awesome
