Creation Myths? (Part 3)
The Bible and science
I've always believed in the Bible. Up until two or three years ago I would have said that 95% of the Bible is accurate and the other 5% there is just no way of knowing if it is accurate and we should take it on faith.
"Now faith is being sure of the things we hope for, and certain of what we do not see! That is what the ancients were commended for. Now by faith we understand that the world was made by the word of God" (Hebrews chapter 11 verses 1 and 2) I've got news for you. Since then I've made some discoveries (OK not me actually, I just found out about them!) and I can say that we don't actually need faith to know this anymore! Because I know for certain that God made the earth just over 6,000 years ago just as the Bible said he did!
In this hub we're going back to look at the sciences, what the scientists have said and how the laws of science show that God making the earth 6,000 years ago is the only explanation for what we see today.
Which sciences agree with that statement?
These are just the five I know of at the moment, but the evidence is pretty convincing and we'll look at each in turn.
Thermodynamics is the area of Physics that deals with the properties of energy and heat. in particular it focuses on their relationship to each other and to entropy (decay). This field relates to many areas in science and engineering.
There are only four laws of Thermodynamics. Here they are again
- Matter and Energy can not be created or destroyed, merely transformed
- Where two elements exist side by side (in a closed system) they will not 'evolve' but are subject to entropy (They devolve) and revert back to their natural state
- The Temperature of absolute Zero (-273 degrees Celsius) can never be reached
- The Zeroth Law states that when a system gets to a point of no net change over time then it's got to the state of thermal equilibrium
The Laws of Thermodynamics say that for the Big Bang to have happened the energy had to have come from somewhere. At the very nanosecond that it came into being is when all the Laws of all sciences had to come into being and they had to come into being fully developed for use.
The second law of Thermodynamics actually shows that the universe can't be as old as evolution and the big bang theory state because if that was the case then by now it would have devolved into it's final state of Chaos and the energy transfer would have dissipated to the point that it was no longer usable. This hasn't happened yet!
The Bible also has something to say about the beginning of all things and it might surprise you to see that it agrees with Thermodynamics
Genesis Chapter 1 verse 1 "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" The Bible tells us that there was a time when there was only God! Except that this time actually existed outside of the fourth dimension (time) and time itself is a created entity that happened as God created the heavens and the earth.
In some ways English is a very poor language with only one word for things that some languages have many words for. The word for God is one of them with the Hebrew having literally dozens of names for God scattered throughout the Old and New Testaments. Each one describes a little more of his character.
Elohim is the first name for God that we come across and it literally means "Ever living self existent ones" (It's plural and feminine in form indicating that there is more than one but to translate it as gods would be a mistranslation because it's a plurality of majesty). God needs no other to be able to exist yet he chooses to create!
"And the earth was formless and void" (Verse 2) Yes the Bible tells us that in verse two there was absolute Chaos in creation and it was from this chaos that God brought out order. But the rest of the Bible makes it clear that left alone the earth and creation will go back to that chaos.
Much of the language that the Bible uses isn't scientific as it was first written to the people nearly four thousand years ago and may even contain written records that go back even further (no one knows how old the book of Job is and some even say that he was a contemporary of Abraham putting him 600 years before Moses!) so the language would be very different from what you'd expect of a scientific writing even of that time but they are records of the events and accurate records at that.
Where did Adam and Eve live?
From the time that the Big Bang theory began to be accepted Astronomers turned to the heavens to answer some of the questions of where everything came from. Telescopes had shown so much about the heavens, Man had seen that the earth wasn't at the centre of things (incidentally it was a Bishop of the church that had shown that) so once again they turned to the heavens to supply the answers.
The thought was that if the universe formed in the way that the big bang said it should have then they could work back and find the point in space where it all originated from. Not only that but working out that the universe was 13.7 billion years old then any galaxies that were more than 10 billion light years away would be the earliest galaxies formed and should only be partially formed. Astronomers were excited to look for these galaxies.
The theory says that the galaxies took billions of years to form and in their earliest forms they would simply be huge gas clouds hundreds of thousands of light years across (our galaxy is one hundred thousand light years across and ours is only a fairly average sized galaxy with about a hundred billion stars in it!).
The amazing thing that was found was that not one of the galaxies was only 'partially formed' They were all complete galaxies, some of which were many times as big as our own. NOT ONE PARTIALLY FORMED GALAXY HAS YET BEEN FOUND!
Genesis chapter 1 verse 1 'In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth'
The fact that not one partially formed galaxy has been found has caused many Astronomers to call for the Big bang theory to be scrapped but at the moment scientific bodies will only fund research that supports the big bang theory!
Galaxies far and wide
More about Astronomy
M.E.J. De Bray (Back in 1927) was the first to speculate that the speed of light might actually be slowing down! It still doesn't mean that we (or anything) can travel faster than light but that it might be slowing down meaning that the far distant galaxies that we see might not actually be as far away as we think but rather that the light leaving those galaxies at this moment will take that long to reach us!
VS Troitskii From the Radio Physics institute in Gorki in Russia (was the USSR) in 1987 calculated that the speed of light has actually been slowing down and that at one point was ten billion times faster than it was today!
Psalm 104 verse 2 "You stretched out the Heavens like a curtain"
The Big bang model is wrong in that it doesn't take into account the sheer size of the heavens or explain the fact that the new calculations show that the heavens are not expanding like they thought. Also the Big bang says that the universe should be expanding evenly with no 'galaxies' but one massive galaxy and the stars all a fairly uniform distance apart. This isn't so. The light from our Galaxy will take 100,000 years to cross the Milky way. It will then take about 60,000 years to reach the Magellan cloud (the nearest dwarf galaxy) and two million years to reach the Andromeda Galaxy (the nearest full galaxy, a spiral one like our own). The Bible tells us that God stretched out the heavens like a curtain (how could King David know that?)
Astronomy agrees more with the Bible than with the Big Bang or any other theory.
Even the likes of Stephen Hawking says that contemplating the universe leads one to contemplate how God made it and that if it was all one big accident then "why does the universe go to all the bother of existing at all?"
How many galaxies are there?
You only have to look at the atom to see the wonder of creation. So small yet so powerful. Every atom has three types of parts. Each one plays a vital role and without the one the others can't function!
Chemistry is construction site of the created universe. Without it and it's laws nothing could exist because the pieces would be unable to come together. Every cell in every living creature is made up of elements. Those elements combine to make compounds that in turn combine to make things like amino acids and DNA which in turn combine to make cells that in turn combine to make our bodies. Yet without the laws of chemistry we could not exist.
The Bible shows us (in God saying let these things exist) that they had to be 'in play' from the very nanosecond that creation began. God spoke and the protons, neutrons and electrons formed that then formed into atoms that then went into molecules etc.
Chemistry says that there was no "trial and error" that evolution wants to introduce. There was no need for billions of years, God spoke and it happened!
John Wycliffe (The 13th Century theologian) said that God wrote the laws of nature and bound himself to them. The best way to explain this is a segment I found on the 'Answers in Genesis website.
"God’s logic is built into the universe, and so the universe is not haphazard or arbitrary. It obeys laws of chemistry that are logically derived from the laws of physics, many of which can be logically derived from other laws of physics and laws of mathematics. The most fundamental laws of nature exist only because God wills them to; they are the logical, orderly way that the Lord upholds and sustains the universe He has created. The atheist is unable to account for the logical, orderly state of the universe. Why should the universe obey laws if there is no law-giver? But laws of nature are perfectly consistent with biblical creation. In fact, the Bible is the foundation for natural laws."

A good book answering evolution
First of all I have to say that evolutionists dispute whether this is even a science. The reason they say this is because it says categorically that life can never have evolved the way they claim!
In ancient times man believed that life could spontaneously spring up from non living or inorganic matter. The gods could cause their statues to come to life, meat could spontaneously generate maggots that would turn into flies etc, this was called Abiogenesis.
Aristotle was the first to disagree with Abiogenesis though he did accept that it could happen under some circumstances.
Darwinism requires Abiogenesis for the first leap from non living compounds and amino acids to a living single cell organism and it was built into to the theory from the start (Darwin was laughed at when he first proposed evolution) so in the 1870s a now famous French scientist decided to test the theory to see if it could work.
Antoni van Leeuwenhoek (1632 to 1733) had used magnifying lenses to observe seemingly spontaneous generation of life. He was one of the early pioneers in the development of the microscope and had been the first to discover single celled creatures. He also worked on the idea that maybe these creatures had come about by seeming spontaneous generation.
By the 1850s the theory of spontaneous generation had been widely accepted but one or two scientists began to challenge it. One of whom was to become world famous winning the Nobel prize and leaving a legacy of being known as the Father of Microbiology. Louis Pasteur
Pasteur set up an experiment with beef broth. He got some flasks of beef broth and boiled them. As soon as they were boiling he sealed half of them and left the other half unsealed. He then removed them from the heat and left them for a few weeks. The result was that those without the seals soon showed microbes in them but the sealed ones had no microbes. The experiment showed that rather than spontaneous generation of life (the sealed ones had no life in them) the microbes were transported by the air around them.
He repeated the experiment a few months later but this time used flasks with S bends in them rather than sealing them. The result was the ones with S bends not only didn't show any signs of life but one hundred and forty years later at the you can still see some of the original S bend flasks with the broth in them on display at the Pasteur institute in Paris and they still have NO CONTAMINATION IN THEM!!! )That's a pretty long experiment if you ask me)
Genesis chapter 2 verse 7 says that even though God formed man out of the dust there was no life until he breathed that life into him. Why? Because life can only come from life!
Evolution says that Biogenesis is only a principle because it had to have happened on at least one occasion (and probably more than one) but there are a bunch of flasks in the Pasteur institute that say it never did and never can happen!
How does Genetics agree with the Bible?
Genetics is a new and fascinating field. It's the one field where no one can argue with the results. In the first hub of this series we looked at Genetic Adam and the fact that every male of the human race is descended from one common ancestor.
In 1987 geneticists at UCLA made a startling discovery. They discovered that every human being on the planet has two forms of DNA in their bodies. In the Nucleus of the cells there is Nuclear DNA that is specific only to that one person (though later they worked out that there is enough material there from the father that we can trace male genetic male lines) but in the rest of the cell is a simpler form of DNA called Mitochondrial DNA that is nearly always identical to the mother! My wife's Mitochondria is almost certainly identical to her mothers. I say almost certainly because they also discovered that the Mitochondria does mutate and there have been about 25 mutations in the history of the Human race!
Evolutionists are disputing whether Mitochondria is passed only from the mother at the moment but only because this blows a major hole in their arguments! AS with any Momma Bear eve has silenced her critics and they don't like it! They worked out that the Mutations come once every 10,000 years and Eve lived about 250,000 years ago.
More recently (1997 to be precise) the researchers at UCLA revisited the research and discovered that they'd miscalculated the rate of mutation and they actually occur up to 20 times faster than previously thought. They now believe that she lived only 6,000 years ago!! Right when the Bible says she lived!
At the moment geneticists are either denying the research (as Richard Dawkins does) or saying "It's not that there weren't other female ancestors to the human race, but there's no evidence for them!!!" (Duh Hello!!!) Even genetics supports the Bible that there really was an Adam and Eve. They lived about 6,000 years ago (maybe 7,000) and they walked in the garden with God
