Christian Basic Training!

Updated on May 7, 2011

A guide to becoming a new you

This is to serve as a guide as to what happens the moment you give your life to Christ and thereafter.
Besides the fact that you’ve taken that all important first step and accepted Christ as your Lord and Saviour you still remain who you where just before you did so, right?
Well according to God’s Word: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new.” (II Cor 5:17) Your sins have been forgiven and your old ways have been forgotten by God. You may have been a sinner and you will probably sin again (your only human) but the fact is that Jesus died for our sins (past, present and future).

So now you are a new creation and therefore you might see it as literally starting with a clean slate. But here’s the thing, up to now you have always been the one to make the decisions in your life and your ego (the self) has always fought for self preservation. But now your will has to be conformed to the will of God.

And for this to happen, you need to go through basic training. Anyone who has been part of the military or police forces knows about basic training and the rest of you will have heard about it. During basic training the first thing that happens is that you are broken down (physically and emotionally) so that you may be built up again. This is also true when it comes to your Christian basic training. There are three ways in which the Holy Spirit will save your soul (break you down) and they are:
1. Through suffering which breaks your will.
2. Through the Spirit of wisdom and revelation.
3. Through His presence in your life; your feelings and emotions.

Now you can be built up and truly become a new creation. You will find that The Holy Spirit will change your mindset from always thinking of yourself first and foremost, to wanting to please God and obeying Him. The old you have now passed away so that Christ may live in you. The mystery of “Christ within us” (Col1:27) is that God came in a body and it is now your responsibility to carry Him.

At this stage it is very important that you start reading and meditating upon God’s Word as it is written: “This book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth, but you shall meditate on it by day and by night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall act wisely.” (Jos 1:8)

You should also immediately join your local church, the importance of which is stipulated in Heb 10:25. As far as baptism (with both water and The Holy Spirit) goes we will discuss this at a later stage.

I just wanted to inspire you to give your life to Christ (if you have not done so already) and to give you an idea as to what will happen when you do.

Remember my friend; you have the opportunity to make a difference. Forget your past. Who are you now? Who have you decided to become? Make the decision carefully, make it powerfully. And remember you are not alone! Be Blessed!!!!!
