Me and my boyfriend were discussing this yesterday and I wanted to blog about it. Some might get offended or such about it but it´s still very accurate and very real. Dating unbelievers. Since I´m a girl I´m gonna talk about christian girls dating guys who are unbelievers.
There are a lot of reasons for women to date unbelievers we think.
- If she has been single for a long time
- If he really likes her
- If he goes to church with her
- If he reads the bible with her.
Often women think they can change the man. Ive heard women say that they can change him and even tried but to tell you the truth you cant really change anyone, you can give them advice and try to help but the change must always come from within and usually guys who date believers have no intention of becoming a believer.
Sadly Ive seen the outcome too many times of both girls and guys who have dated unbelievers. The believer wants to make the unbeliever happy so they do things they usually wouldn´t.
A few examples from my own life: One of my friends at church completely stopped going to church to make his girlfriend happy. My best friend let her boyfriend sell weed to her friends. My friend even started sleeping with her guy to make him happy. That is not really what we want to see is it?
The bible says: Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial?[b] Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. (2 Corinthians 6:14-16) ESV
Another version for those who think this is a little weird: Don’t be teamed with those who do not love the Lord, for what do the people of God have in common with the people of sin? How can light live with darkness? And what harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? How can a Christian be a partner with one who doesn’t believe? And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For you are God’s temple, the home of the living God, and God has said of you, “I will live in them and walk among them, and I will be their God and they shall be my people.” (2 Corinthians 6:14-16) TLB
(The picture of the orange/Apple that is shown at the bottom is supposed to be right here so it fits in with the text :) )
Another reason I wanted to write this post was because I just read an interesting post on a page I often visit about an 18 year old girl who had married an unbeliever. They still lived with his parents, his mom really wanted grand kids as fast as possible and he got mad if she wanted to work cause apparently girls are only supposed to be home wives.
The bible is very specific in that we should only date believers. This is not to be mean or to put rules on us but for our own best. Me and my boyfriend think scarily very alike :P but I also love it. I can be myself around him and I can praise God in all the ways I want and he supports me and joins in with all his heart because he believes the same and thinks the same.
God didn´t put this in the bible to force us to only date believers but to help us to a happier and more productive life. He loves us so why wouldn´t he?
What I´m trying to say is never settle for less than you are. If you have been single for a long time maybe its because you´re supposed to be. I found my boyfriend when I finally stopped looking and finally started loving God and following him completely.
For guys there is a great bible verse too ;)
“Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. “
( Proverbs 31:30 )
Kinda says itself don´t you think? :D
So believers, we are not of this world.
Don´t settle for less than you are and remember God loves you :D
A video about the subject from someone elses view.
Do you think this is for you?
