Defeating Our Human Nature (Part 7. The Popular Art Of Witchcraft - Serious Rebellion)
Although this article is part of a series, it is a complete study on its own. (7 of 18 in series)
* all [bracketed] words in Scripture quotes are mine *
"He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly before your God?" (Micah 6:8)
"I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh...
...For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would. But if ye be of led the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revelings and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such things there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with its affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another." (Galatians 5:16-26)
Welcome Back To Our Series On Defeating Our Human Nature...
This is the seventh in our series entitled, "Defeating Our Human Nature." The Apostle Paul taught that living a life of obedience to God yields a much different outcome than does rebellion against God and living in the flesh. Paul gave us two lists enumerating the results of both living for God in the power of the Holy Spirit and living for the flesh and walking in our own lusts. We have covered in another series, the positive side resulting in love. With that love comes a whole list of different operations of love called the fruit of the Spirit which is listed in verses 22 and 23 of Galatians chapter 5.
Now in this series, we are considering the negative effects of living away from God's will and its results called "works of the flesh" and which are listed in Galatians 5:19-21. The first article of this series was an introduction and it showed the vast difference between obeying God and walking in the Spirit and rebelling against God and following the lusts of the flesh. In part 2, the heinous act of adultery was covered and how it makes a mockery of marriage, which is a picture of the relationship that Christ has with the church. In part 3, we covered the almost universal sin of fornication that is constantly battled in our flesh, in our mind. In part 4, the lesson was on uncleanness and how the human flesh struggles against us to keep us in a spiritual state of uncleanness before the Lord. In part 5, lasciviousness (lewdness) was covered and we said that in our flesh, lewdness seems fun and harmless but that it is a mindset damaging to the Christian's walk. In part 6, the subject of idolatry was covered. This is also something all natural flesh tries to accomplish; we all worship either God or something else that is an idol, even if that idol is the person's own thoughts and motivations, the self.
In this installment of our series, we will consider the fleshly work of witchcraft, as is defined in Scripture.
In ages past to say the word "witch" resulted in somebody getting stoned, hung, or burned at the stake. Witchcraft has been handled with a "no tolerance" policy. People were frightened and wished it stamped out, and for good reason...Witchcraft is a sin that influences whole communities. It is used to create new religions that do not worship the God of the Bible. I'm not saying that this Old Testament punishment should still be in effect because of Jesus and His covenant that contains His mandate to win the lost at any cost. But the seriousness of the sin of witchcraft is still a reason to be concerned, even though we live in a society that encourages religions and practices of any stripe as long as it is not of the Bible.
We will consider the dangers of witchcraft later in this article but let me say something to clarify a misconception before we get started. This article is about witchcraft as is defined in the Bible. I think most Christians know the difference between this type of witchcraft and the word witchcraft when used to describe a fairy tale or some kid's story, like Harry Potter. Even though there are loose references to practices such as reading tea leaves, casting spells and speaking with the dead, Harry Potter (in my opinion) is not a how-to for witchcraft. I was raised with stories and popular figures for children that included witchcraft and even before I was a born-again Christian I knew enough to not become a witch. I was taught to avoid true evil and to gravitate to God and good.
I know that probably there are Christians that would disagree with me. There are those that would study the movie one frame at a time to see if embedded in it is subliminal material or some evil sign of practitioners of black magic. But for the most part, people who watch such movies are secure in their own conscience that, for them, it is harmless fiction.
Yet, there may be a few that will watch the movie and then go to the library and research just how to cast a spell or talk to the dead. Having said that, it might be wise to say that to take precautions is not a bad thing either. There are parents that will not want their children anywhere near the word witch or magic or spells. No light-hearted treatment of anything dark. For them, Halloween is not tolerated or any cartoons with witches or magic or any entertainment that represents this subject as innocent (their conscience is sensitive toward it). I respect that as well. No one wants their child growing in curiosity for the practice of magic or having any religion in which some god other than the one in Scripture is called on for help. Those parents will absolutely forbid any acceptance of things resembling the evil traps that Satan has scattered for young and old alike in the area of witchcraft. I do see their point, witchcraft is dangerous.
"Abstain from all appearance of evil." (1 Thessalonians 5:22 KJV)
I do caution those careful parents to remember one thing: God is stronger than Satan. Do not fear in your heart that Satan is somehow stronger than God or more powerful. To tread so lightly around the devil may make him seem irresistible to young minds. So clarity in communication is necessary for proper attitude toward the real dangers of the devil and the right perspective in dealing with him.
"God has spoken once: twice I have heard this: That power belongs to God. Alas to You, O LORD, belongs mercy; for You render to each one according to his work." (Psalm 61:11-12)
"And every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist [this is the spirit which empowers all of witchcraft] which you have heard is coming, and now is already in the world." (1 John 4:3)
"The coming of the lawless one [The spirit of Antichrist and then the actual being, the Antichrist, of the very last days] is according to the working of Satan with all power [not almighty but with great power encompassing all human experience], signs, and lying wonders." (2 Thessalonians 2:9)
People Become Imprisoned By Their Own Rebellious Witchcraft
The LORD our God is supreme in power...Keeping that fact in mind I would caution that great power also lies in the hands of the enemy, Satan, his horde of demons, and the human minions that serve him. God created the being that became the devil with power, and God will not remove that power from him until his judgment comes and he is thrown into the Lake of Fire. He restricts his power and hinders it, foils it and defeats it for His own will but Satan's power and his lust for evil remain intact. Often the struggle between good and evil is depicted as a balance of power between equal but opposite forces. That is not true, God is almighty. There isn't anyone or anything more powerful in all of the universe. The fact is, Satan can do nothing unless allowed by God's permissive will. But that still gives Satan and his servants power to do great and mighty works, superhuman works from our earthly perspective; amazing effects on people and circumstances that are not able to be explained in any rational way other than supernatural spirit realm power. Examples of the devil affecting the weather are found in Job and in the gospels. Through Satan's power, the witch of Endor caused Samuel to appear after he was dead to speak to King Saul (with God's permission of course), and in the book of Revelation, the human part of Anti-Christ will be killed with a blow to the head and then raise from the dead by Satan's power. Yes, Satan is strong - but God is stronger.
"Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them. And the LORD said to Satan, 'From where do you come?' So Satan answered the LORD, and said, 'From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking back and forth on it.' Then the LORD said to Satan, 'Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil?' So Satan answered the LORD and said, 'Does Job fear God for nothing? Have You not made a hedge [a protective barrier that Satan could not pass] around him, around his household, and around all that he has on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his possessions have increased in the land. But now stretch forth Your hand and touch all that he has [In other words: give me permission to get past Your hedge of protection], and he will surely curse You to Your face!' And the LORD said to Satan, 'Behold all that he has is in your power [verifying that Satan had the power to do what comes next]; only do not lay a hand on his person [displaying the control God has over Satan].' So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD. Now there was a day when his sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house; and a messenger came to Job and said, 'The oxen were plowing and the donkeys were feeding beside them, when the Sabeans raided them and took them away - indeed they have killed the servants with the edge of the sword [showing the devil's power over the actions of groups of people] and I alone have escaped to tell you!' While he was still speaking, another also came and said, 'The fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them; and I alone have escaped to tell you!' [correlates to Revelation where false prophet is given power from Satan to call fire down from the sky] While he was still speaking, another also came and said, 'The Chaldeans formed three bands [shows the devil's control of three whole armies] raided the camels and took them away, yes, and killed the servants with the edge of the sword; and I alone have escaped to tell you!' While he was yet speaking, another also came and said, 'Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother's house, and suddenly a great wind came from across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell on the young people, and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you!' [demonstrating not only the ability to coordinate all these events in sequence, but also his ability to control the weather, if given leave to do so]... Then the LORD said to Satan, 'Have you considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in all the earth, a blameless and upright man, one who fears God and shuns evil? And still he holds fast to his integrity, although you incited Me against him, to destroy him without a cause.' So Satan answered the LORD and said, 'Skin for skin! Yes all that a man has he will give for his life. But stretch out Your hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will surely curse You to Your face!' And the LORD said to Satan, 'Behold he is in your hand, but spare his life.' So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful boils from the sole of his foot to the crown of his head [physical diseases can be given by the devil, but again, only with permission]." (Job 1:6-19; 2:3-7)
+++ A side note: I will write an article in the future as to why God would allow all this to come upon His servant that was admittedly the best servant of God that existed in the world at that time. Suffice it to say that God is all-knowing, all-powerful, all-loving and had good reason to allow this to happen. Also, be mindful that "all things work to the good to them who love God and who are called according to His purpose."+++
"Now it happened, on a certain day, that He [Jesus] got into a boat with His disciples, and He said to them, 'Let us cross over to the other side of the lake.' And they launched out. But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy [one of many attempts of Satan to kill Jesus so that He would not get to the cross]. And they came to Him and woke Him saying, 'Master, Master, we are perishing!' Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased and there was a calm." (Luke 8:22-24)
"...in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience." (Ephesians 2:2)
"Then Saul said to his servants, 'find me a woman who is a medium, that I may go to her and inquire of her.' And his servants said to him, 'In fact, there is a woman who is a medium at En Dor.' So Saul disguised himself and put on other clothes, and he went, and two men with him; and they came to the woman by night. And he said, 'Please conduct a séance for me, and bring up for me the one I shall name to you.' Then the woman said to him, 'Look, you know what Saul has done, how he has cut off the mediums and the spiritists from the land. Why then do you lay a snare for my life, to cause me to die?' And Saul swore to her by the LORD, saying, 'As the LORD lives, no punishment shall come upon you for this thing.' Then the woman said, 'Whom shall I bring up for you?' And he said, 'Bring up Samuel for me.' When the woman saw Samuel, she cried out with a loud voice. And the woman spoke to Saul, saying, 'Why have you deceived me? For you are Saul!' And the king said to her, 'Do not be afraid. What did you see?' And the woman said to Saul, 'I saw a spirit ascending out of the earth.' So he said to her, 'What is his form?' And she said, 'An old man is coming up and he is covered with a mantle.' And Saul perceived that it was Samuel, and he stooped with his face to the ground and bowed down. Now Samuel said to Saul, 'Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" (1 Samuel 28:7-15a)
"So Saul died for his unfaithfulness which he had committed against the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD, and also because he consulted a medium for guidance." (1 Chronicles 10:13)
"Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who has the power of death, that is, the devil." (Hebrews 2:14)
Such examples of great power in the enemy's hands are all over Scripture and are found around the world today. Such power is wielded by people thinking they have control over the unseen forces behind such demonstrations of the supernatural. They do not. They become minions of the real power. They become addicted to the admiration they get from others for the effects of practicing this religion. (Make no mistake, it is a religion.) They become trapped and unaware of the dangers of their situation.
When you strip away the surface motivations that would prompt someone to practice witchcraft what you realize is that at the heart of witchcraft is rebellion. Rebellion against the God of the Bible and His authority. For the mechanics of witchcraft is religion, with its rules, rituals, enchantments and prayers. Spells requiring certain methods are rituals, to make the practitioner feel involved and powerful; these are not usually thought of as prayers but in a sense they are and this is a system of belief that is expressly forbidden in the Scripture, so to practice it in any of its many forms is rebellion against God's word and the God that spoke them. I know in America, many people do these things treating them as a sort of hobby, for the novelty of it, for possession of a good conversation starter, or to try to get a secret advantage in life. They are playing with forces that are extremely dangerous.
"When you come into the land which the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations. There shall not be found among you anyone who makes his son or daughter pass through the fire [child sacrifice], one who practices witchcraft, or a soothsayer, or one who interprets omens, or a sorcerer, or one who conjures spells, or a medium, or a spiritist, or one who calls up the dead. For those who do these things are an abomination to the LORD, and because of these abominations the LORD your God drives them out before you." (Deuteronomy 18:9-12)
Have you ever asked a person that performs even the simplest "white" magic, why it works? Many people have written pieces on why these spells work and every explanation I've read or heard of, goes against what is written in Scripture. Some do not care why they work or what power causes these things to happen. I personally have seen explanations ranging from "natural forces that are in play around the earth" to an "earth mother [goddess] that grants power to those who respect her and her earth." I'm sure there are hundreds or maybe even thousands of different ways of reasoning as to why supernatural and paranormal things operate in this world. It doesn't matter, it is still rebellion. God's word says not to do it and they do it anyway. Power from the spirit realm comes from either God or His enemy Satan. All power to accomplish works that go against what is written in Scripture comes from the "father of lies" the "the one who opposes" God, namely Satan.
"Give no regard to mediums and familiar spirits; do not seek after them, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God." ... "And the person who turns to mediums and familiar spirits, to prostitute himself with them, I will set My face against that person and cut him off from his people." (Leviticus 19:31; 20:6)
Now let's look at the definition of the word witchcraft as used by Paul in Galatians 5. The word is pharmakeia (far-mak-i'-ah) and comes from the root word pharmaeus (far-mak-yous') and means "drug, druggist, magician, sorcerer." Paul used a word from the Greek language that aptly described the methods of the conjurers, mediums, sorcerers, and fortune tellers of his time. It is the same word from which we get our word pharmacy. Plants were bred for drugs for health but also for the purpose of religious ceremonies and spirit interaction because it was thought that they brought intensified insight into the spirit realm and aided in worship because of that connection. Drugs were very common in temple worship to help with the sexual energy and orgies that were thought to intensify prayers to Diana. Almost every extended family, clan, or settlement had a patriarch that practiced some sort of "medicine-man conjuring" and very often the use of drugs was involved. The local pharmacist medicine man dispensed drugs but also was the spiritual adviser and many times the high priest, a jack-of-all-trades kind of service that usually included witchcraft.
Almost all witchcraft practices can be traced back to Babylon, Nimrod's city, with its rebellious religion that flew in the face of God. There is evidence of Babylonians petitioning the dead, practicing divination, and using drugs to commune with spirits, casting spells etc. It is interesting to see the Babylonian gods and goddesses with the mythology around them, coincides with many Wiccan religious beliefs. In fact, the word sorcerer used in Acts 13:6, is the word magos and means "oriental wiseman" (or practitioner of magic similar to what we see today) and is an equivalent to the Hebrew word rabmag that refers to an official Babylonian mage, establishing a direct link between the two. Of course, the span of time that the history of magic occupies has given way to thousands of variations in its practice. I have researched many variations of Wiccan practices, none of which set well with me because of my Bible background. Each practitioner is adamant that their way of practicing magic is not dangerous. I don't agree... but all that doesn't matter. All forms of witchcraft are prohibited by Scripture and those who practice such things have decided that they don't care what the Bible says about it.
"When they say to you, 'Seek those who are mediums and wizards, who whisper and mutter,' should not a people seek their God? Should they seek the dead on behalf of the living? To the Law and to the Testimony! If they do not speak according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." (Isaiah 8:19-20)
I know that many forms of witchcraft have permeated our American society and is even more prevalent in other societies around the world. No one seems to be bothered by people living their lives around the astrological charts, or others not making a move without their psychic's reading taken into advisement, or others not leaving the house without their magic charms. America's tolerance for all sorts of religions has evolved into a nonchalance or even a planned ignorance about what surrounds them. "Live and let live" is the mantra, and all the while, belief in things that the Bible says are evil increases. Faith, for many, has become just another hobby that a person chooses to do in their spare time. God has become an idea that surrounds the good in life, and in the minds of most, Satan doesn't even exist. Well, let me tell you, he does exist and you do not have to go too far to see things on which God has pronounced judgment. You only have to go as far as a local newspaper or any magazine. It's on billboards, has its own "800 numbers," is in media everywhere. Check the Internet to see witchcraft claiming to grant you everything from riches to making someone fall desperately in love with you, from knowing what's going to happen tomorrow, to controlling what happens tomorrow.
I get uneasy when I see Christians that constantly read their horoscopes or are interested in psychic phenomena or Ouija boards, pendulums or any similar occult tool like that. What moves behind this "entertainment" is a force that wishes that a Christian's life and all that he stands for be destroyed. If one's guard is let down and they begin to allow it to influence them, it can (and will) be extremely destructive. I personally knew a young lady who waited the majority of her lifetime for a certain man that a psychic foretold would come into her life, to take her away with him. He never came and she stayed cloistered away waiting in constant belief in what the familiar spirit informed her through the medium. The genuineness and power of the experience more powerful than her reasoning. She was not crazy, she was convinced. It altered her life forever. She began to seek more from the spirit explaining the delay. It affected her and those around her. My thinking is that this is not an isolated occurrence. History is replete with dictators, generals, and madmen that used the occult to guide them, and it (Satan) guided them into all sorts of destructive and murderous actions, influencing innocent people and whole nations, destroying individuals, families, cities, countries, wiping out whole people groups.
If I feel uneasiness and foreboding around someone that knows Jesus as their personal Savior but still dabbles in witchcraft, then I genuinely fear for the person who enters that realm without any Spirit that could pull them back or protect them as they move down this path on which they have decided to walk.
Most people who begin to dabble in such things do so with a smile and pessimism and in a spirit of fun. It doesn't seem to warrant all the belief they see people have in it. But as the person begins to pay attention and allows for the intelligent forces behind these things to reel them in, they begin to notice things and are startled. This usually serves to pique interest and they begin to tell others about the "weird coincidences" surrounding this particular variety of witchcraft and that there is "something about this." That something (whether they wish to believe it or not) is evidence of the existence of spirit forces. We are in the middle of a spiritual battle, you see, unseen to human eyes but raging all around us nonetheless. The enemy of God wishes to harm anyone that God loves and anything that God stands for. The "something" is super-human spirit forces that have nothing to do with God. God has said, "Stay away from witchcraft." Satan will work to influence people to do just the opposite. He will convince all involved that this is the truth, not what God says. All of their experience will now be built around this false premise so that the distortion is uniform and they are trapped in a web of lies and deceit.
It is common knowledge that many criminals and people who are subsequently under psychiatric care say that the devil or a demon "made them" do whatever crime they did. Most people write these people off as mentally unstable and that they must have heard their own minds demanding strange, cruel, hurtful, crazy twisted things and then just obeyed it. I wouldn't be so quick to discount that they may have indeed heard such voices and felt such pressures from the unseen spirit world. Scripture is replete with accounts of Satanic forces demanding things from humans who, for whatever reason are unable to resist, and so they obey them. Judas was "entered into" of Satan and proceeded to betray Jesus, then afterward, in remorse, went and hanged himself (which suicide may have been prompted by Satan as well). Mental heath experts often document suicide survivors saying that they were ordered to kill themselves. King Saul came under the influence of evil spirits and then tried to pin David to the wall with a spear. People who deal with such powerful forces are in great danger. As long as they accomplish something toward the agenda of the one granting them power, they will probably be left alone and not hurt by these powerful beings. But at any time they are expendable to the devil. He wishes the destruction and hurt of all humans because God loves them and he hates God. There are connections made to depression, obsessions, and many other mental illnesses and behaviors that can be linked to spirit influence. Now I know that many people do have chemical imbalances and those people should be treated, but I wouldn't just discount their accounts of forces that they claim to influence them simply because the claim falls into an area that isn't solid and tangible.
The list of things that are defined by the Scripture as witchcraft has grown and continues to grow with thousands of varieties of each type. How do you recognize a practice that falls into the category of witchcraft or the occult? Any behavior expressly forbidden by Scripture or that goes against the teachings of the Scripture is not of God. Any practice that uses a premise that is in disagreement with the Scripture is an expression of rebellion and is to be avoided. If God says not to seek out a fortune-teller or soothsayer and you seek out a horoscope, what are you doing? If you miss a loved one and you go to a person that says they can get in contact with him, what are you doing? If you, by embracing a certain ritual or pattern of belief are imbued with powers not enumerated in Scripture as coming from the Holy Spirit, what are you doing? Any practice that grants you power that the Scripture attributes to God, or is based on teachings that circumvent God or that minimizes God, that thing is not of God, so who is behind it?
Where is your heart regarding this? Do you go against God's warning and dabble in these things? Do you doubt the existence of the devil and demons? Anyone with an open mind that looks into scientific explanations of the occult will see things that defy explanation. In the midst of trying to fully explanation of any variation of the occult, the scientist will reach a point where science does not know how, or from what source the power comes to produce these effects phenomena. I was reading how martial art mystics can actually accumulate and concentrate energy between their hands and then throw it at an enemy to disable them. This phenomenon was incorporated into some of the popular martial arts video games that our children play. Scientists have theories of where this ball of energy comes from, but no one knows for sure, it is beyond scientific explanation. But the Bible has said what these things are.
The scary thing is that witchcraft starts out looking like a "curious coincidence" in someone's mind and very quickly begins to take over and influence the rest of his life. Curiosity turns to obsession. This influence will not allow someone's heart to break before the living God. It will pull at them to go even further away from God into a place that is constructed for that person's mind where it is "safe" and "everything works" according to the rules of the religion of witchcraft. Each piece of that person's logic will begin to form around those rules and soon there is no room for an all-powerful, omnipotent God. They are a prisoner and don't even know it. They may even, at this point, feel more free and more in tune with their lives than they ever have, but can feelings lie just like the devil does.
Then there is the "little matter" of possession. Here is where the non-believers of Scripture tend to really chuckle. Satan has been very successful at convincing folks that he does not exist. The Bible says that possession is real. Jesus dealt with it. Let me say first that I do not believe that a person that has Jesus (the Holy Spirit) indwelling his heart can also have an evil spirit living there. A truly born-again person is indwelt by the Holy Spirit (called Spirit of Christ or Spirit of God). A person who has been truly indwelt by Him stays that way forever, throughout this life and on into the next. God does not share His "tent," His "house," the human heart, with Satan. The person who is not indwelt by God is in a totally different situation. For them dabbling in the occult, in witchcraft, is an open invitation for more and more spirit control, evil spirit control. I do not know what makes a demon pick out a specific individual and then decide that this person is the one for them to indwell, but I would say that practicing a religion that calls out to a power other than God would be one way to catch the attention of these insanely powerful beings.
What I would love for you to take from this article is that you now see a danger in pursuing power that witchcraft may grant. It is like juggling with fire, sooner or later you will get burned or even obsessed with the flame. Sooner or later, it will consume you and your whole life. This life it brings has no room in it for the God of the Bible. It will continue to pull you away from the words of life in Scripture. If that goes on long enough then a person will die in their sins and have to go to the place that will be the final destination of Satan, hell. I would like you to know that witchcraft is a practice that actually works because there is an entity behind it and that entity has an agenda. His agenda is to cause hurt to those for whom Christ died, to mislead and take with him to hell as many as will follow, to make as big a statement against God as he can in the time he has left (which is rapidly running out). I would love for the reader involved in witchcraft to begin to realize that he is not in control and what little will he has is in danger of falling to the devil. I would like the reader to know that God loves them and they can call on the true God to forgive them and to come into them forever.
I wonder... are you, the reader, into witchcraft? Have you as yet, felt the encroachment upon your mind of the power that moves witchcraft? Maybe you have, maybe you haven't, as of yet. The thing you must keep in mind is that by practicing witchcraft you are defying the will of the God of the Bible. God stated not to do such things for a reason. The biggest reason is that witchcraft gives homage to someone that is doomed to fail. His history has been written and we know the end of his story. If you continue to be linked to him and do not turn to Jesus, you will share his fate. Satan is the most powerful being ever created and his mind is the strongest ever created. His punishment just couldn't be ordinary because he isn't ordinary. The punishment is designed with him in mind. But the scary thing is that when you decide not to follow the God in heaven and instead follow the god of this world, you follow him to the place designed for him and his angels. It was not designed for you. God died to give you a chance to escape Satan's fate. He loved you so much He came to earth as a human and died so that you may be forgiven, should you just ask for it, turning to God.
"Then He will also say to those on the left hand [those people that follow the devil instead of turning to God], 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels.' (Matthew 25:41)
If you now feel a pull on your heart, it is God the Holy Spirit knocking on the door of your heart. He desperately wants you to turn to Him. He stands with His arms out to you waiting. He may have reasoned with you for years since you were able to understand what it means to be a sinner. He's told you that God became a man who was born in Bethlehem to a virgin named Mary, that He grew to manhood and was nailed to a cross. He's told you that He loves you and did that for you and every other sinner in this world so they would not have to die and go to hell.
"Behold, I stand at the door and knock, if anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him and he with Me." (Revelation 3:20)
"Come now, let us reason together,' says the LORD, 'Though your sins are like scarlet they shall be white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.'" (Isaiah 1:18)
Jesus was crucified and they took His body down and wrapped it up and lay it in the grave but He rose from the dead. He did this so that he could take the punishment you deserve and give you a way to be forgiven. All you have to do is believe, turn from your sins to God, and call out to Jesus to save you.
"For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins [for your sins] according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried [for your sins], and that He rose again the third day [for your sins] according to the Scriptures." (1 Corinthians 15:3-5)
"For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:13)
If you hear Him and are sincerely turning to Him with repentance in your heart, pray this:
Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that You have been knocking on my heart's door and reasoning with me to turn to You. I believe that You died as a man and were buried and rose the third day to pay for my sin. Please forgive me Lord and save me. I turn from my sin and the way I have been living my life, following Satan and rejecting you. I invite you into my heart to stay with me always and to eat with me and I with You. I promise to follow You, to obey You and to love you all the days of my life. I pray this in Jesus' holy name, in His holy power and authority. Amen.
